Do you prefer the the old type of Final Fantasies where the places are very old in stlye. Many of the towns are or have castles in them, no roads and little technology. Pretty much any good technology would be made by ancients.

Or

Do you prefer the games where the towns are more industrialized and they have a greater deal of thechnology. (that excludes airships though)

I think I grew up in the generation where the first final fantasy anyone would have played might have been Final Fantasy VII, where many of the places are even more advanced then they are today. But I think I accidentally skipped VII and started at IX. Which turns out made a big impression on some of the games I really enjoy. Anyone at my school who will recognize any final fantasy at all will almost undoubtedly think of VII first. But I always think of IX and anything before VI. I am sort of coming to that realization now because of something that happened at school not long ago.

I like the old style, FF4 and FF6 are just so great, I love FF7 - FF12, and FF13 looks amazing, but I prefer the old style over the newer style just a bit. Good Post TranceMoogle.

Even though I am a fan of the later Final Fantasys, I like the whole castles and dragons and things like the first Final Fantasy had. Maybe it's 'cause I'm into Renaissance and medieval things. Hell, I even want to build a castle, or a place like Brian Jacques' Redwall Abbey, and live there with my friends and family. Think about it. Do you want to live in a world full of corruption and crap like that, or among your closest friends? I can't explain it very well, but I would love to live in a world like Final Fantasy I. The others with the technology are great, but they don't cry out to me like a medieval setting would.

The Renaissance came at the tale end of the Middle Ages, around late 1400s when people were more interested in paintings of people to be more realistic and for the human to be in its natural form(the nude). "Renaissnace", meaning Rebirth, refers to people looking back at ancient Greece and Rome and thinking, " Wow. Hippocrates and them said some interesting stuff and used democracy. Let's start using this as standards instead of the Feudal System." Plus, after the recent discovery/invention of gunpowder and cannon, the almost inpregnable castle was now no good and less were built after 1450... plus castles were forts built by a country in order to get its foot in the door of taking another country's land... some of the information may be incorrect....

I prefer the story lines of the FF's released on PS1 to now and the setup of the old school games...

They both have their qualities and strong points. I enjoyed playing games I-VI (with the except of 2,3 & 4) and VIII, IX, & XII were particularly interesting to me. I like the idea of having a modern futuristic setting but with the qualities and ideals of classic "old school" FF's. IX was a great example, since you don't really see high powered alien airships in Medieval texts. FFXII was another great example. Now if they made an FFVIII type of game that was merged with FFVI then I can see a good FF coming together. Futuristic places/vehicles (i.e. Balamb + Ragnarok) classic style (i.e. job classes, espers, clothing (can be a mix). Personally a game like that would have me stop raping my Gameshark of FFT codes...at least for a little while anyway.

Ummm... I couldn`t decided, as my personal favourites were FFVI,FFVII,FFVIII,FFIX and FFX, I cannot say futuristic or old style. Both are great, so as long as it`s not made for just some cash I think every FF is great.

To hell with your lousy offerings.

I think that square captured the old style the best in Final Fantasy Tactics, The way the characters interacted, style of weapons, and the way towns and castles looked also. FF4 did very well too, and of course FF6 is the best.

When you say old-style, do you mean the old (pre-VII) Final Fantasy games, or the Final Fantasy games set in older time as opposed to ones probably set in the future?

Either way I'll say old

I chose the old style. FF-X is my favourite, but that is in spite of the technology, not because of it. My favourite parts of Spira is Besaid, Kilika, Mi'ihen, Djose etc, and I'm not really a fan of Al Bhed at all.

In FF1 they had castles and old medieval towns, and temples, and all kinds o' weird stuff. That was cool. Old all the way baby.

I choose Pre-FFVII, besides FF9. I like the Fantasy more than the high SciFi (High SciFi being really futuristic and such.)
