I'm planing on buying both FF8 and FF9 but I heard some rumor that all the FF's are being remade for the PS2. I've played seven so I won't be paying 50 bucks for that one, but I was just wondering which FF is better out of FF8 and FF9. This way I can buy the better one for the PS2 and then buy the other one as a PSOne game. Gotta try to save some dough:D. Also, I would like some confirmation on the rumor.

I've heard that rumour too.

Hard to say, but I say that 8 is better. The difference in FF8 PSX and PS2 version is probably a little bigger than FF9 versions. (Though I don't know what this difference means... Graphics? Playable?)

I heard it was just delayed due to FFX and XI. I hope they're still doing it though. It would be pretty cool, played 8 and 9. Both have their own strengths, but 8 could be updated more than 9.

Confirmation? Well, they've already completed some of the parts for remakes, but have postponed it...perhaps permanantly.

As for better, FF9 and FF8 are both EXTREMLEY good....but for right now, just get 9. Don't worry, you don't miss anything, as no FF's have anything in common with each other.

I'll re-edit this post when I find more info on the whole remake deal.

IMO FF8 is slightly better, but it depends on what u like most. FF9 is more like a classic RPG, but FF8 was developed better and had more time spent on it.

I think FF 9 is a great buy, although FF 8 does have its good merits, but yeah I would go with FF 9

get 8 first. then save up for 9 (going from 8 to 9 makes 9 seem really good). dont wait for the ps2 remake, you'll be waiting for overy a year maybe 2 years. because they still have to get ffXI to usa and canada. then they have ffXII. and before all of this is kingdom hearts squares making. then they'll probably make 7 remake first, then 8 and then 9. so its best to get em now.

It sounds like the Shrine is torn over which one is better, but I think that I'm going with FF8. No wait, maybe I should pick 9! No, no, I'm defintiely going with 8. Aww, the hell with it, I'll buy both for the PSX. Toocool brought up a good ppoint when he said that it'll probably take at least a year or 2 for Square to make those remakes (if they even plan on making them still) so I'm just gonna get both. 20 bucks each isn't bad anyway.

Don't worry about waiting for any PS2 remakes of all the earlier FF games as it's not going to happen. For several reasons. As Square has just confirmed they will again be making games for Nintendo, it's my opinion that FFXI may be the last FF on a PS console. Square haven't announced on what console FFXII and all the FFs beyond are going to be released on, so it's a safe bet that the PS saga of the FF series is nearly over. On top of that, there is little point to re-release FFVII, VIII & IX on PS2 when the PSX versions run on it anyway. You can even improve the graphics by smoothing out the texture maps. Call me a pessimist and a liar if you want, but, I'll stand by my opinion. Personally, if they were going to release upgraded versions of the PSX FFs, then they would have confirmed it by now. Still, anything's possible (just look at Kingdom Hearts *urk* - sound of Enkidoh vomiting -)

Some of the classic quotes from FFVII, VIII & IX:

Quote: "Ahh, you look like a bear in a marshmellow." Cloud, FFVII.

Quote: "Yeah, but you cut a pretty mean figure back there. I'd say you rate about a minus 3 on the manliness scale." Kiros, to Laguna, FFIX.

Quote: "Man, isn't there anything on his mind besides girls?" Blank, FFIX.

Quote: "Ooo...soft." Zidane, while 'accidently' touching Garnet's backside, FFIX.

I don't think Square will ditch the Playstation's as they have given Square more money than the NES and SNES did. So I think Square should ditch Nintendo and go with Sony.

If Square do ditch Sony then I will be VERY dissapointed at Square and so will many others.

You guys need to think buisness wise and realize that Sony is the highest sailing system ever (the PSX that is) Square knows that Sony is big in the gaming community and alot of the fans the FF series have now are also diehard PS owners. Besides, Sony owns 19% of that company and will most likely get more as time goes on. Basically, Sony wil get paid out of any succesful venture Square makes with Nintendo.

I think ff8 has better graphics, but I like ff9 more because of it story. I like ff9 sidequests more than ff8 sidequests.
ff9 has a much better chocobo sidequest than ff9.
ff8 has a much better card game than ff9.

As far as 8 and 9 go I'd have to say 9 is a better all around game, much better playability than 8. Both have pretty good stories though.

As far as remakes on PS2 of older FF games. I heard that XII was going to be on PS2 and that remakes of 7-9 would hit Gamecube. Just rumors though no comfirmations.

I think FFIX was better. They both had good stories but I think FF VIII's battle system was absolutely horrible. I have heard that the remakes were cancelled. I think it would be cool if they did make the remakes though.

grrrr.....ok im prolly like the most biggest FFVIII fan you could ever meet..dun listen to these FFVIII bashers! thery complain about a battle system that beat the crap outta materia system times 20 XP

Get FFVIII....play it....then do try and play it again...cuz i know when i fitrst played it it was all weird...but when i played it a second time, i knew what i was doing and all..so def. try and do that..

FFIX this was a koo game too..but get it last just cuz ok? lol

FF 9 is the better version since it has been upgraded more than 8. the graphics the playtime and the battle modes make it one of the better games.
Don't get 8 the beginning of the game is to long and drawnout since it's telling you how to use certain features in the game it's not like you don't know already. so If your going to get one of the games choose FF 9 and you won't regret it I promise.

personally, i like 8 better because the characters are developed a lot more, especially the main one. the way they do it, you can see the characters growth and development. it is kinda like a struggle within love story though, but it does have a really great story. the card game is much better than 9's and so are the side quests.

ff9 seemed 2 lack something 2 me. i believe that square didnt really put much thought in2 the game and just wanted 2 use it 2 launch playonline.com. the only good side quest is the chocobo thing which is pretty time consuming.

well, as far as opinions go from fellow ffshriners or any1 4 that matter, i wouldnt listen. if i were trying 2 decide, i would just borrow them or rent them from somewhere to test them first.

as far as the rumor goes, i really dont know. i had heard that, but of course u hear a lot of things on the net (o the hours i had spent tryin to !!!!!!!!!!!!ff7 SPOILER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ressurect aerith). what i am wondering is why the HELL they would waste that time and money remaking games for a new system when the old ones run on it just fine!
