Just wondering if anyone got it, would get it or just gonna pass on it. Personally I just loved the game too much for me to pass the portable version of it up.

I really like it so far. I don't like the little lag spikes that happen when you do a special move, but.. aside from that it's pretty cool.

One thing that I heard was that you could only get some of the equipment for dark knight and onion night on the multiplayer. That part i think is retarded cause .. I don't know anyone else that has this game, there's no way I'm going to be able to play someone else...I wish that developers wouldn't do that.

Are we talkin about FFTactics for PSone, or Tactics advance for Gameboy Advance. FFTactics for PSOne, is one of the greatest games of all time. Everyone should play that

While I am in discontent with the 1 millionth "FF I & II" Remake, and the whole FF XIII smorgasbord. The FFT: Lion War is one of the few re-releases that I am looking forward to. I have to agree with all of the above posts the PsOne version was definitely a classic, and I have explored every aspect of it, and with a Gameshark the possibilities are limitless O.0 One thing I am looking forward to is Balflear (I always hated 'Balthier', the og sounds better) and Luso's role in the story. And have the newer lucavi (espers in FFTA & XII) been added or originals modified to match? I guess we will have to wait later this month to know for sure.

Oh.. I'm sorry. I was talking about the PSP version. Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions. I don't mind remakes, as long as they add something more to the game that doesn't interfere with the overall gameplay and story of the original. I love what they did with tactics with enabling the player to choose two more different jobs. What makes it even more fun is that they are kind of tough to actually get. I love it. The one thing that I don't like at all is the fact that there is slow down in the game when doing special abilities. Even stone throw it's been slowed down. I don't know if it's just a poor port or what. The overall game remains the same though and that is what i love about it. Needless to say the CG is also very awesome. I did, however, forget how much talking there is. One more aspect I don't like is that they rewrote much of the dialogue and now it's read kind of like old english and .. so it can be hard to read sometimes. OH WELL... fun game still.

yea, the lions war is the remake of the original, it's a great game. I dont have a PSP so i won't be playing the remake, but i'm sure it will just as great, with the added stuff.

Has anyone been able to unlock the dark knight or onion knight yet?

Just finsihed the whole thing a few hours ago, and got Onion Knight-- its quite easy, just get Job Lv6 for Squire and Chemist. However, its quite useless unless you have a friend for multiplayer play, as its abilities are... not good.

I liked the PSone original, and this well.. extended its longevity a bit, particularly with additional quests (some of which developed some of the characters a good deal, rather not go into that), and multiplayer modes.

There is bad news for people planning on snitching Elmdor's Genji equipment (since you could in the original US version)... Elmdor is immune to Steal, yet he does not have the Safeguard (Maintenance in original) ability on (Safeguard seems to cover Steals now, not sure in PSone). However, you can get the Masamune and Genji Armor regularly (not completely sure with Masa, but I'm sure there are Ninjas that'll throw that somewhere...)

Could you go into a little more depth as to what significant changes (if any) were made to the PSP version. And did they alter the original lucavi to match with their GBA/FFXII counterparts? New Lucavi bosses? New monsters? Whatever you can share with us would be very appreciated :D

- AI is better all-around, for both enemies and guests. For example, Alma spams MBarrier (Aegis) on your entire party, instead of running around doing nothing.

- Additional characters, of course. I would say Balthier owns (among the new ones)-- he is a mix of Machinist and Thief... and his stats are quite good. He also gets innate Safeguard, and can equip TONS of equipment (even Heavy Armor).

- Some battles were changed. For instance, there is no "bonus monster" in the area before Goug. (In the original, you could encounter an Uribo [Pig] there... admittedly, that was spammable-- getting a party of Chantanged characters early on...) In addition, some funny translating errors were fixed... due to the new translation.. remember "Defeat Dycedarg's elder brother!?"

- Some of the abilities seem to have been re-balanced, such as Safeguard (Maintenance), which now seems to prevent Steal. This is all I noticed gameplay-wise... I'm not sure if we still have the lovely McDupe trick from FFT (I'm going to check this later...)

- The "Optimize" function is as useless as ever-- it still prioritizes base Atk, Hp, etc, without regard to effects / classes.

- There are several additional scenes regarding certain characters-- they lead to bonus items and... character development portions; an example would be an apparent relationship between Agrias and Mustadio-- the scene is triggered (apparently) by going to ... Gariland(?) on Agrias' birthday (no idea when)... you get a really nifty perfume from this-- +3 Atk +3 MagAtk Auto-Shell Auto-Protect Auto-Haste... though its not as good as the Chantange.

- Lucavi seems to look exactly like they used to, except possibly... a few color changes here and there, and possibly some "sharper" sprites.

- There are no "Lucavi bosses," but there are new bosses with the "???" status (cannot check status)... one of them is the person who had Beowulf branded a heretic... he'll morph to a "Dark Dragon" with "???" status.

That's cool. So did the guy who morphed, did he use a zodiac stone or was he just a wizard or something. I was kinda hoping they would throw in Mateus and Exodus, oh well. Did they rename Adramelk >>> Adramelech, Hashamalum >>> Hashmal, etc? Have most of the glitches (i.e. duping, stealing) been fixed/removed? And I wanna get this game, should I? @_@ Oh yeah I almost forgot did they update Bolt 3 to Thundaga, etc? Whats the new naming system the levl 4 ones!?!

sanagi_00
10-13-2007, 11:54 AM
- Yes, they did rename a lot of the characters in the new translation, and not just for the ones that were in... XII (didn't play XII too much; honestly, I fell asleep quickly)... spells are also renamed (suffix for Lv 4 spells is -ja, so you have Curaja, Thundaja, Firaja, Blizzaja, etc.)

- The guy who morphs to Dark Dragon didn't morph... he used.. the same spell that he used on Reis.

- Well, I would recommend this game, yes. I have not checked the dupe glitches yet... and I really wish the dupe glitch is there (smells Excalibur rush....)

Oh okay. This post has also piqued my interest in the remake so I checked around on the internet and came across a few screens that show Priest & Wizard were changed to "White Mage" & "Black Mage". Makes more sense that way, I recall in the character introductions it showed Priest & Wizard as White Mage and Black Mage, but that was only one of many in-game typos.

EDIT: Here's the site btw for anyone who hasn't seen any pics by now.

Yes, it is quite a good game. This time around I'm focusing heavily on character development so most of the story battles are quite easy for me just because I've got my characters so well built. Anyway... I'm pretty excited to make a fell knight. That was one of the main reasons why I even got this game to begin with.

Anyone else notice that their PSP battery doesn't last as long?

sanagi_00
10-15-2007, 01:02 PM
@Gilthanos: That's probably due to old age. Same is the case with my PSP battery-- we use and charge it so often, right now, it only lasts 80% of when we first had it.

Same case here-- I don't like Deathknights, actually, after checking their skills, but I did go crazy on development and got Ninjas right in Chapter 1 (no multiplayer or anything). Killing Algus (Argath) was so fun with Equip Sword and Ninjas (laughs).

I got dragoons in chapter 1, but didn't use them. I had my black mage get the -ga spells and my White mage get Holy (which he can't use cause of lack of MP) before the end of chapter 1. It's great. Squire was mastered for everyone and my knights (who are now monks) almost mastered knight. I'm grooming one of them to be a fell knight and Ramza himself will probably be a Samurai or a Dragoon himself. (I love dragoons in this game)

My mages.. I'm kind of grooming them as well. I will more than likely have a White/Time Mage and a Summoner/Black Mage. I personally had alot of good experiences with that in the past so I kind of want to keep it. I'm also grooming one of my characters to be a Ninja at this time, but I haven't been pressing it since you don't get any of their equipment until later on. So we'll see. JP Boost helps alot, that I know. I just keep one mob alive and then bash on my own people until I get a ton of JP for each battle. It's good times!

You said that you were able to get the Fell Knight... (Death Knight/Dark Knight) .. I had heard that the equipment was only available on multiplayer.

I don't care for Onion Knight though.

I have a similar set-up with yours, Gilthanos, though I don't usually master classes (except Summoner and Ramza's Squire).

Ninjas are great at any chapter, since you can use Knight abilities (like Equip heavy armor or equip Swords) to give them a nice attack boost, even when early on. Samurai are also incredibly useful, but its just sad that you can only get good weapons for them later on, but if you manage to learn Shirahadori, and your Bravery is around 90+, you can say good-bye to most physical attacks (most attacks had less than 10% on my Ramza... planning on doing the same thing to my female Time Mage-- infinite revive + teleport + dodge almost all physicals + shellprotect).

Same here on Onion Knights. It's so hard to even get them to be useful-- Master other classes? Please...

Gilthanos
10-15-2007, 06:02 PM
Wow.. that sounds nice.

I never though of using either heavy armor or swords on a Ninja. That is a good idea. I can imagine the damage that a sword using ninja could inflict upon a baddie. :P I only like to master classes because it gives me more options later on. I hate building up Knight though since EVERYTHING costs so much JP. I'm eager to get some more skills with my thief (Move +2/Jump +2) so that I can make her a dragoon and bust out some serious skills.

I am also building up two monks right this minute (so one can be a fell night, but must get to lvl 8 Samurai first) and .. for the stories I have my monks use swords. That comes in handy and can usually do some pretty dang good damage to a knight. Even bare handed i can take down a mage with just one punch. I love it.

But don't PSP's come packaged with a cord to plug into a wall socket like the DS? At any rate once a Gameshark comes out for the PSP i'm going to make my three vampiric assassins again :)

The sales for FF Tactics for PSP this month are great in the first week! 89 thousand copies! That's impressive for an rpg on the PSP that's also a re-release. This sales are due to the original game being legendary plus the great new updates to this game.

I want to get this PSP version! If I do it would have to be after I beat the Usa PS 1 version of Ogre Battle(already beat the Usa Snes version) and the Usa PS 1 version of Tactics Ogre(Snes version didn't get a Usa translation but PS 1 version came out in Usa).

Gargh, I'm busy with other games though. :D

Honestly, I picked it up, and regret it. I just do not understand what I'm supposed to do, and have tried to level up, but that seems to be going nowhere, and I'm stuck right at the beginning storywise due to this battle with some stupid Black Mages that kill me instantly.

@Dr Kain: FFT is a tactics game, and you're fully required to use your head and strategize, dude. Levelling up is not really the key to victory. If you have a manual out there, try reading it. If you're still stumped, check the handy tutorial.

I played Final fantasy tactics advance back when I still had my GBA and I have to say there are certain aspects of that game which I prefer, like the slightly easier difficulty level and the fact that you don't have to worry as much about losing your characters permanently. I do like this game though, it's quite addictive, and I like the fact that you can ride chocobos.

does anyone know where I can find a full list of jobs and more specifically the requirements for each job.
