Can someone please help me?, I finished installing the game, and I'm at Disc 2 already. At first, the sound effects are working fine, but when I got to Disc 2 the sound effects doesnt work anymore (the bg music is fine). Does someone know how to fix that? :[

It could be a defective disc, but if the music is working alright, I'm led to suspect it may be a sound driver issue. The sound effects are a little on the low-resolution side, but it was never really that noticable to me. At least, not to the point of being noticably "glitchy."

You've probably done it already, but have you checked your sound drivers or configuration lately? Something might have gotten changed, somewhere, and that might explain it. It couldn't hurt to check if they're not playing at all, then I'm led to believe it's either a configuration or driver issue. If you've changed the settings or swapped out hardware recently, that'd do it. I know that FF8PC is a little bit picky about what it's using for sound effects.

I hope you get it fixed soon, though. D:

This seems like a good spot to ask my question (didn't want to make a new topic).

I just burned this game for my friend, but I was unaware that he has Windows Vista. I'm not sure if the game will work for Vista or not, but he wants to know if there are any patches for Vista. I have the other patches for the game crashes and the black blocks on the screen already, but not this patch if it exists. I've tried looking on google, but no luck.

oooh!! I have a Vista too, There's a solution to this problem now. I saw it somewhere when I'm REALLY searching it at Google, you just have to do this:

Go to FFVIII Config

Go to Graphics

Look at the Renderer, and change it to Software Renderer

:D That should fix the black thingies in the game :3

It's not a Vista issue. I had that issue with my copy of the game too, and had the same problem under XP x64. After googling hard, was disappointed with what I read.

It's an NVidia issue. The GeForce 6xxx series and higher cards doesn't support palletized textures, which the game relies heavily on. This causes the black boxes. Using "Software Renderer" fixes things, but unfortunately disables SLI and anti-aliasing (and if you're on a 1280x1024 19" like I am, you'll definitely want anti-aliasing to be on). I don't really find this acceptable, but then what you get is not quite what you choose I guess.

Solutions I've gotten from other forums include downgrading the video cards (no can do. I don't want to open up my rig to swap cards in and out and I have no more free slots in it) to using the PSX version with an emulator instead, and of course, bite the bullet, cope with the eyesore and use software mode.

RM80 wasted.

Eesh, that sucks. Guess I'll let him know that he will have graphical problems no matter what huh?

well, software renderer isn't too bad on a small display (say, a 15" CRT) and if the CPU is fast enough (shouldn't be a problem). If your display is big like mine, you're going to end up with blocky graphics (hence my wanting for Anti-Aliasing).
