My latest purchase was the Halo 3 Legendary Edition.

I was intending on buying this and then selling it off on eBay in a few years but after seeing one,
decided to keep it for myself lol. I have to say I felt like a little kid when opening this.
Figured I might as well capture the whole thing by photos.

Process of unwrapping

So what about everyone else? What was your latest purchase?

Things like electronics etc cost more here in Australia than they do in the US.

Standard Edition $100, Collectors Edition $130, Legendary Edition $200. So yeah a shoulder to pay for it :p but I felt like spending some money, like tomorrow I'll prolly be buying a new lens for my camera... so another $600 or so out of my bank account lol

3 Knock off 1/170 Macross models for a 1$ each:

As you can tell, these are Knockoffs. No Macross labels anywhere.

This is a comparison of the real and the fake.

I have to admit that they made real good knock offs of the actual models (I'll post the images later).
I own a real one, and it cost me about $4. Normally they go for $4 - $6 a pop at shops and conventions.

I know it's wrong, but when it comes to anime toys, I love knock offs.
I rarely buy the real ones unless I find deals or I just can't pass it up. But when I buy collector mark-ups, I really feel ripped-off, which is why I love knock offs, especially the ones done right to the T.

For anything otaku in the UK you have to pay at least a 10% (more likely 20-40%) mark-up over US prices. Examplo: Viz LLC's Shonen Jump manga retail at $7.99 in the States, but at 5.99 (roughly: $11.50) here. If it's a fair price, I'll buy the real deal, otherwise... that's if you can find cool stuff like figures/garage kits in the first place.

When it comes to manga, I never get knock-offs. As for anime, I would have to view the pirated copy before buying. I got a pirated copy of the entire Helsing series and it has all the DVD options for language, wide/full, language captions, even concept art.

The only knock-offs that I regularly buy are figurines and resin kits.
I especially love going to the small monthly comic-cons in L.A. I can always find great deals on stuff, I even haggle prices when I have to.

Do people actually sell pirated manga in the US?

All of my (too many) tankobons are legitimate, expensive US/UK/JP versions. About 60% of my disposable income goes on manga. I don't download scanlations. However, I do get friends to send me anime from HK and Singy, and to be honest I don't fret over their provenance as they're always of reasonable quality and can't be bought in Europe. If stuff gets a UK release - like Azumnaga Daioh, say - I'll buy the legit version: all 6 volumes at 120.

Unless, of course, they've kept me waiting for 3 years behind the American release, in which case: fuck you, I've already torrented/downloaded/imported it while you were pissing about wondering whether you'd make enough cash off the PAL conversion.

The NTSC/PAL divide is the cause of much woe here as I guess you'd imagine guv'nor. Especially painful when it comes to games.

As I say, figures and garage kits are fairly hard to come by here, so there's always a potential doubt over what you're getting. In my case, cash dropped means a close relationship with store owners, but still my - genuine - Genshiken Saki-Kasukabe-cosplaying-as-KU-Prez figure cost the equivalent of $79; I can't believe it would cost that much in the US.

Um... Last Purchase: extremely posh biscuits from my secret supplier.

I could care less about the latest animes.
Now, I just look up anime that look cool. If I end up liking the plot, I'll buy it.

Most of the kits I buy, I get for $15 - $30. I don't concern myself with "genuine" kits since I don't paint them to specs -unless it's a character I like- anyways.
I'm not a collector of value, I'm a model builder. The only thing that concerns me is the way kits look. Any blemishes can be fixed, and the fun part is modifying and making them my own.

After looking over this thread, I keep trying to think of the last "fun" thing I bought for myself that wasn't groceries or crap we needed around the house.

I got a gamecube like two months ago and have hardly played it. Not because I don't care for it, just because I've been busy lately. Before that (like 6-8 months before that), it was a DS that I haven't played much.

Actually, I think the one useful thing I did buy for myself that I was happy with was an espresso machine with milk steaming wand. Only $20, which is great. It works well (although I'm not a coffee/espresso snob so who knows, maybe its shit), or at the very least, gets the job done.

How come?

Because it's a dumb American holiday, like Thanksgiving?

Unfortunately, what stenchlord says isn't completely true. Due to the over-saturation of American culture, more and more kids are 'trick or treating' every year.

The day that Thanksgiving infiltrates our culture will be the day I pack up and move to Canada.

EDIT: My last purchase was Jericho Season 1 on DVD. Although it broke my 'no DVDs over $15' rule, it's worth it if DVD sales get Jericho's second season extended. Any Jericho fans go out and buy the DVD set now!

Don't be such a stick in the mud. :\

Thanksgiving may have questionable roots, but its a time to get together and celebrate with family. Its not nearly as commercial as other holidays celebrated the world-over, and tbqh, I think its great. Anything that lets me have a day off school (or gives someone time and a half at work), is an excuse to get together with family, is by no means a "dumb holiday" for me.

There's nothing wrong with Halloween either. I think its a great holiday for kids, but admittedly, there's a lot of shit head punks that ruin it. But geez, how on earth is Thanksgiving that terrible?

Well, it's more that thanksgiving is a specifically North American holiday. While Halloween has more pagan roots, it still 'started' as an American holiday.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that if you don't want to have anything to do with North America's Thanksgiving holiday, then why would you move to Canada if the holiday starts being celebrated in Australia? Actually, Halloween is the Celtic/Scottish pagan ritual of Samhain. Immigrants brought it over which eventually transformed into the way it's celebrated today.

This copy of Silent Hill is BETTER than the seller described. He said it was "near mint" with several, small surface scratches.
