So I decided to take on emerald weapon last night,

With Cloud at lvl81, Barret @ 79 and Red XIII @ 79. With only one master magic materia behind me - I waded into the battle fighting it just like any other regular boss.
No 7777 trick, or KOTR, no mime (i havnt botherd breeding chocobos yet). Nothing to special, just a fairly "decent" set up on each character.

And after 20:00 mins, out-putting all the damage I could..... I killed it with a Command Counter=Deathblow from barret - with 00:04 left on the clock!!!

OK! Alright! All is great! The Exp and Ap screen loads - 50,000AP - woot woot.

Only the screen turns black 2 seconds later, and then splits into two, on the right side is the "game over screen" (with only the left side visible) and on the left of the screen is the Exp/Ap counting down (with only the right visible).... ok, so im not sure whats gonna happen next but i soon find out...

I died, apparently, and its a "Game Over"

But I got the Exp and AP like I'd killed him ...then go and die 2 seconds later O_o;;

uuurrrgh - and I was so chufted that I didnt have to get ther underwater matria as welll!!

Any experiences similar to this???

I've never had that happen to me. Do you think the clock continued to count down, even after it was defeated? That's odd. I'll have to try it and see if the same thing happens.

Playstation.

And as a side note: Today, I re-arranged some materia, changed my strat a bit, and manged to put out 25% more damage than last night, and beat him in about 15mins - for the first time ever lol. With out any ridiculous Kotr materia set-ups!

(4 counter attack materias and hero drinks help though lol) :-P

im thinking that the clock still runs for a little while even after you beat him, and because you only had 4 seconds left the game thought it expired. then it divided by zero.

It would seem logical.

And now, I'm feeling SE were maybe a little sloppy in their programing on that specific timer..... for such a high stakes battle.

Just make the timer 'die off' when the weapon does..... >.>;

meh, who am I to talk about SE programming though lol.
