Tokyo Game Show 2007: New Kingdom Hearts Games Revealed
First details on the three new iterations for PSP, DS, mobile.
By Andrew Hayward, 09/19/2007
Square Enix's Tokyo Game Show presentation is currently going down in Japan and we've got the first details on the trio of new Kingdom Hearts titles.

Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep for PSP looks to be a single-player adventure in the vein of the PlayStation 2 iterations, though not "Kingdom Hearts III." Birth by Sleep's protagonist was not explicitly named in the presentation, but he looked an awful lot like Zack of Final Fantasy VII/Crisis Core fame.

Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days for Nintendo DS appears to star Roxas from Kingdom Hearts II, but its main draw looks to be four-player simultaneous play using members of Organization XIII. It will be in full 3D.

Kingdom Hearts: Coded is a mobile game, likely for Japanese cell phones. It stars the familiar cast of main characters from the original Kingdom Hearts (Sora & co.) and seems to be set between the first and second PlayStation 2 titles.

Each title is said to have a time-related theme: Birth by Sleep is "the distant past," KH: 358/2 Days is "time of the other side," and Code is "time has gone by." More as it comes!

---

I've never played any Kingdom Hearts games but this is big news to fans of that series. Please not that Kingdom Hearts 3 will not come too soon because the main KH team is working on Final Fantasy Versus XIII, it's the same team! What are your thoughts? I'll have to rent some KH games to see what the fuss is all about, can you believe I've never played any of the three games? :)

This seriously pangs me, for several reasons.

1. Square is pulling the shit they're pulling with XIII: multiple spinoffs before the game is even released.
2. The game they decide to put on the DS is about Roxas. I CANNOT STAND Roxas :(

I wonder if making multiple spinoffs would possibly delay the production of Kingdom Hearts 3, which won't be out for a long time, considering FF V XIII probably will be out in Spring 2009 in Usa.

I just can't stand the Kingdom hearts series at all, it just seems too kiddie to me. It's probably the voice acting, taking some of the characters I loved to play as from the final fantasy games and giving them stupid voices.

If those games come to the US then my little sister is probably going to want to get them. Then she'll be hogging up the PS2, or DS, or whatever it is coming out for that she gets.

I haven't played any KH games, since from what I've seen of them they appear not to fit into my preferences. Then I found out that they are insanely popular and that Yoko Shimomura(from Street Fighter 2 and Front Mission) is the composer.

I'll be renting Kingdom Hearts 1 next after Eternal Sonata arrives tomorrow! :)

Mickey is going to eat everyone's soul and spit it out and then stab it and roast it up and eat it again after this. :P

Saw the trailers, and honestly had to resist rolling my eyes at the fact there were three titles. And I used to be a KH fan, too...

Kingdom Hearts... I played the first KH... and hated every minute of it (Although, the voice of Leon (Angel star David Boreanaz (SP?)), was pretty good), and this news of more KH games fills me with dread.

For younger gamers, I suppose I can see the appeal (though not by much), but when people over 20, go on about how good it is... that's sad imo.

Oh please. You can enjoy cute and cheesy when you're over 20 just as well as you can when you're under

I mean, shit, POKEMON :D

I heard it long ago... But, my reaction was "SQUENIX IS JUST TOO SICK!!!"... How many games are they going to announce? One today, two next day... And what`s in the end? Just too much shit in FF [and not only FF] history....

Woo, way to prejudge guys.

From what I can see, each game is going to offer a unique experience / perspective, and is well worth waiting to see how it turns out. Personally I found Kingdom Hearts II to be a very well designed and enjoyable game - I had more of a desire to finish it than Final Fantasy XII, which I still haven't finished to this day.

Both Birth by Sleep and 358/2 Days look like they are going to explore the 'fantasy' side behind the universe more, which is very deep and engaging - I look forward to playing both of them. Birth by Sleep is being designed by the team behind Chain of Memories which was, while a little repetitive, a highly enjoyable game, and was an excellent prologue to Kingdom Hearts II.

Please note that the Kingdom Hearts: coded team is the same team from FF VII: Before Crisis, FF VII: Crisis Core, and FF Agito XIII

Kiddie? you don't understand KH at all do you?

Birth by sleep will include the 3 knights from the secret ending, I am personally only interested in this one, mainly because I only have a PSP, and the other two sound like garbage anyway.

True, some people do like cute and cheesy game, I do not. Myself, I personally hate KH, and thats my own choice. I've never liked Disney (I'm more of a Warner Bros. fan), except for five certain live action movies, Disney's movie arm, Beuna Vista, have released.

In regards to Pokemon, imo, that has gone for too long. However, if there are people who enjoy them, then fine.

All I was saying, is that not everyone likes Kingdom Hearts.

Perfectly acceptable. I was noting the irrelevence of the age criteria you set forth.

I dont think Ill be playing any other KH (apart from 2). Seriously, how far can they take it??

From what I've researched, they haven't even gone into production with KHIII yet because Nokumora (sp?) is busy with other projects. I think he should get done with those, including KHIII, before saying something like this.

Although, I like the series and I think I'll finally be getting my second PSP game :D.

The Kingdom Hearts team is the Final Fantasy Versus XIII team. That game won't be out in Japan until atleast Fall 2008 and I think we'll get the Usa version in Spring 2009. There are also these side projects which have part of the KH team working on them plus other people I believe. I wonder when KH 3 will come out, although I haven't played any KH game yet. I wanted to rent it, but I'm busy with Eternal Sonata! :)

EDIT:
Kingdom Hearts made the front page featured article of the day on Wikipedia!!!

The following is the text they have on the front page. They also link to the article for the game series and other links for it also.
---
Kingdom Hearts is a series of action role-playing games developed and published by Square Enix (formerly Square). It is the result of a collaboration between Square and Disney Interactive Studios, and is under the direction of Tetsuya Nomura, a longtime Square character designer. Kingdom Hearts is a crossover of various Disney settings based in a universe made specifically for the series. In addition, it has an all-star voice cast which included many of the Disney characters' original voice actors. Characters from Square Enix's Final Fantasy series also make appearances and interact with the player and Disney characters. The series centers around the main character Sora's search for his friends and his encounters with Disney and Final Fantasy characters on their worlds. The Kingdom Hearts series currently consists of four games across different video game platforms, though future titles are planned. Most of the games in the series have been both critically acclaimed and commercially successful, though each installment has seen different levels of success. As of December 2006, the Kingdom Hearts series has shipped over ten million copies worldwide, with 2.0 million copies in PAL regions, 3.0 million copies in Japan, and 5.6 million copies in North America. The video games have also been adapted into a manga series as well as a novel series.

The funny thing is, they just leave the opening for sequals at the end of the games and they pick it up from there. And you can't beat an unfinished story to death either now can ya?

Yes. Handhelds are very worth your time. They have come a very long way from the original Game Boy, when most games were 4 level platform adaptations of the popular series of the day.

Well, actually it depends on your lifestyle. I feel that my DS was worth every cent even though I overpaid for it. Why? Well, for one, it has games that interests me. I can use it in bed when I'm too lazy to sit up at my gaming rig or PS2 (which was exactly what happened last Sunday morning, I played FFVA in bed for two hours until 'rents decided to go to Genting Highlands). And I can take it along with me on vacation.

The Ds is the Best Handheld system regardless of graphics and besides nintendo is king of Handhelds and will always be (PSP doesnt come lcose but i'm still getting one certain reasons why)

Agent0042
11-13-2007, 05:44 AM
Yes! You figured out to use the ending punctuation mark, which is good. Now if you start the first letter of the sentence and words such as "I'm" with a capital letter, you'll be all the way there.

RAMChYLD
11-13-2007, 03:47 PM
Yep. And don't forget to separate sentences with a punctuation mark too.

I.e. This is the first sentence. This is the second sentence, and it's separated from the first sentence by a full stop, and is broken up with commas to make it easier to read.
