I'm pretty sure that was just a demo, or something similar. And aren't ROMs meant to be illegal?

Roms aren't Illegal, The Emulators are. Also, FFX was never for NES. IT's For PS2

He is talking about a FFX fan remake that saw the light of the world some years back. It was supposed to be FFX remade as a NES Rom.

As far as I know, emulators are not illegal either. Meybe the action of emulating is (but I think not). As far as I know, its not illegal to play a game via an emulator (even using a ROM/ISO) if you actually own the game.

Same way with the BIOS. Downloading the BIOS is illegal, dumping it from your ps2 is not.

Actually, it's Emulators that are legal, and roms that are illegal if they are copies of existing copywrighted games.

and since when did people pay attention to what's legal, and what's not?

I thought that as far as I own the game Im allowed to make a backup of the game (therefore make a ROM or an ISO).

as long as u "say" u own the game, its legal

Here's what you can read in the instruction booklet of a game for a Nintendo system:

Important Legal Information

This Nintendo game is not designed for use with any unauthorized device. Use of any such device will invalidate your Nintendo product warranty. Copying of any Nintendo game is illegal and is strictly prohibited by domestic and international intellectual property laws. "Back-up" or "archival" copies are not authorized and are not necessary to protect your software. Violators will be prosecuted.

Even if you argue that you didn't copy the game yourself, the Rom is still an illegal copy of the original format and thus illegal as is pointed out in the above Legal info.

But the burning question of the thread is, does that FFX rom actually exist or was it just some shenanigans.

Silver Butterfly

It's a PC game, not an actual NES rom. According to people who've played the game, it contains the entire script of the original. The site won't allow me to upload screenshots, but they're out there if anyone's curious. It uses the FF2 engine....how modified it is, I have no idea.

But Blitzball made it in.

Zachron

What site? If you need to post a screenshot, get an account with photobucket, save the screenshot to your hard drive, upload it from the hard drive to you photobucket album, then link it from your photobucket album to the forum. If you can't upload it to photobucket, then the image size is too large, and it could probably be cut down smaller, or changed, from a Bitmap to a Jpeg or a Gif.

Another question... what's the game called precisely. What would one have to type to get it on a Google Search within the first 2 pages. "FFX" surely won't do that.

Just what I could grab without digging. If it has a separate name, I haven't heard it, but I'll see what I can find.

Well you dont have to as it seems it was never finished. The only thing I was able to find was some demo roms (rach one featuring a ffx to nes scene) and posts saying its fake or unfinished.

Screenshots on that one page definitely don't all come from the same rom, seeing as one of them uses FFII's engine, while another clearly uses level progression. Some of the sprites in one of the screenshot sets, were SNES sprites from FFVI, and another set were FFIII style graphics. I've seen some interesting screenshots, giving credance to several possibilities, all of which could potentially be true. One is that it's a hoax, another is that it's a misconception, ie. the abundant screenshots and scene conversions has unintentionally given fans the idea that the game really exists. Another is that the rom is real and does exist somewhere, but it was never translated(If FFX was really written onto a NES rom, Square-Enix would just shit a brick and do whatever the can to supress it.), and other roms operated under the assumption that it wasn't real, while some of the other roms might have been beta roms of the same game, in it's unfinished incarnations. (Not having the party size right, or not having the progression engine and stats set quite right yet could be simply processes that were not finished at said stages.)

I'm still skeptical though. Until I see a working game that behaves reasonably like the orgiginal FFX, I won't be convinced.

In short, I am completely convinced that the game may well possibly exist, but I am not at all convinced that it does actually exist.

Those screenshots seemed too erratic to be real. I mean, one of them had a character with 27 Max HP, and another with 9999 HP. That level of depth couldn't be achieved in a NES game, I think. Though it was funny how Tidus is Fighter with a pallette change.

I dont think the ROM was ever created. There is no where to be found on torrent sites, p2p programs or normal websites. The only evidence I could find were in the above link.

Too bad, I would even pay to play a full NES version of X!

Playing a remake of a game is interesting, but doing it the other way around sounds far more fun for me. (and it was never done before ;))

Wow... who thought about doing that whole thing with the rom? really.

But I agree... just stick with the PS2 version. Old games on old systems rule, but new games on old systems? That's just not the way it should work. Kinda a step backwards. Like... having a really good calculator but purposely finding and using one that is old and basic and really sucks. But that's just my opinion I suppose. If you've played the game so much that you get too bored playing it, just play a different game.

Anyway, I think the overall assumption in the emulation community was that it was a hoax.

Final Fantasy X - Test.nes
Final Fantasy X - Test 3.nes
Final Fantasy X - Test 4.nes
Final Fantasy X - Test4a.nes

Thanks for the upload.

Is it just me, or are Test 3, Test 4, and Test4a identical? Just the opening where Tidus walks off and stares at nothing forever?
