I am in the crater at the point where everyone shows up and you decide which way you want to go. I'm trying to get out of the crater but it won't let me climb up to the ledge where I entered the room. Has anyone ever had this problem? What can I do about it? Thanks.

Once your down that crater, theres no going back up. The crater room is usually the place where people use the Save Crystal... I don't know if you can place it inside the crater itself... if you can... well then Square messed it up big time.

Sure you can go back up, you don't get the last green materia until after that point. How can you get the master materia if you can't go back? I'm not talking about the point right before the final boss, I'm talking about the area where you can go left or right and you split into groups.

Beastnaster is right. I commonly use my Save Crystal at that party break up point. You can always go back, all the way from the point right before you start heading towards JENOVA Synthesis (Crazy floating walkways amidst a shower of Mako and the classic J-E-N-O-V-A song).

Ah anyways, I misunderstood what you said.... hehe... you can freely head back whenever you want, theres nothing getting in your way except a few enemies.

TimeMatrix, how can you not get back up? It doesn't make sense. Please tell me cause i'm dying to know.

The way you came down you cant go back up. But im pretty sure if you walk to the north youll find a doorway which leads up the other way through the crater. You can always turn back unless you reach the floating platforms.

You can go out. Not long after you entered the crater, you should see a cave doorway (near the chest with the Save Crystal). Simply walk through it. If you need help, hit Select to bring up the arrows.

Maybe I'm not making myself clear. This is after the room with all the little ledges you jump around on. It is before the room where you descend to the final boss. You climb down a stalactite and meet with all the characters. You decide which way you want to go (left or right). My game is not allowing me to climb back up the stalactite into the room with the ledges. Is there something I need to do to allow me to go back up?

no you can't go up that way, but if you go north after you get to bottom, where all the dino bones are, follow that area and you should be able to find your way back up

sure you can climb up the stalactite thing. Just try to get up as close to as you can and press te climb button like crazy.

I think he means 'Inside the Planet' where you fight such enemies as Iron Man, Dragon Zombie, etc..
on platforms in which in this case you cannot return back to where you came from. You'll have to load an earlier save unfortunately.

no thats not it, i have the same problem, when u hit select it shows the green arrow that says u can go up the stalagtite and i have done it b4, but for some reason u just cant!

If you saved in the room where your party splits up, then you are really screwed. It's a glitch, it's mentioned in a lot of faqs, and there is absolutely no way to go back. Kinda sucks that you had to find it out the hard way. :(
