You didn't go to the beginer's hall I take it...

Linking two materia together does nothing special, unless one of them is a blue materia. Blue materia specialize in modifying the effects of other maneria. Some take the elemental properties of the materia, and ascribe an added effect. (Such as Added Effect, and Elemental) While others are metamagic effects that alter the functionality of a spell by affecting its targeting pattern or altering its effect. (Such as All, Quadra Magic, and MP Turbo) Some can even alter effects that aren't magical. One of my favorites is hooking Elemental up to Kujata, on one of character's armors, making him or her impervious to several elements. There are lots of things that can be done by linking materia together. But you have to link a materia to a blue materia for there to be any linking effect.

Walkthroughs are for pussy cheaters who can't think their own thoughts and have to have other people supply the answers for them... While asking for help is just for pussies who can't think their own thoughts and have to have others people supply the answeres for them... Doesn't seem like that much of a difference, not being a cheater goes a long way in my book, and the book of anyone who has an IQ higher than his Runescape character's level.

... As the name would imply, towards the begining. BTW common sense would ditctate that you should always explore every inch of the first village you come across, at least 3 times over, even more if you uncover enough. Trust me, every RPG works that way, the first village contains the guidlines by which future cluse will be left in later quests. As such anyone who rushes through the first village the first time they play, without properly exploring it, will be at a serious disadvantage for the entire remainder of the game...

That's just more from RPG's 101.
