Our school dance staff is taking song submissions from class members so I was wondering if any of you knew of any good dance music. I don't care if it's techno or rock or whatever, just anything to liven up the place a bit.

Thanks!

Edit: The dance was complete and utter shit. But I am still taking suggestions for myself.

Darude's Sandstorm is a world recognized club anthem, so you won't go wrong with that.
Robert Nickson's remix of Jose Amnesia's "Louder" was very well recieved when our school had a dance. Have the MP3 if you want it; send me a PM.

I think the staff said they were gonna put some of MJ's stuff on there themselves. But I might submit some anyways.

Also, I don't think "And the Beat Goes On" was made by Michael Jackson. Unless you were just referring to the other 2 songs.

I just got back, and all that they played was shit you'll hear on MTV/ VH1- Justin Timberlake, The Jonas Brothers, some other bands I don't care to list. They played like 2 MJ songs. No Grace Jones. No Daft Punk (except that shitty slow rap remix of "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger"). Nothing.

Ah well, I'm never going to a school dance again. Though I am still taking music suggestions for me to listen to.

They never play anything we (my friends and I) like, and it's pretty much what you would hear on MTV or during that time the repetitive, loud thumpin', fast paced, extacy rave, Deep House bullshit.

err.. deep house is pretty minimal, mostly influenced by jazz/soul and rarely clocked over 120bpm

I thought the Jazzy/Soul type house was Groove, or Electronica? 'cause that's the type I actually like listening to.

If you want techno or trance, e.g., traditional club-styled stuff, I recommend artists:

Armin Van Buuren
DJ Tiesto
Paul Oakenfold
Paul Van Dyk

The middle two have wide discographies, but the first and fourth, not so much.

Of course, chances're are that, if you're really into techno/trance, you've probably already heard of these.

Me, I'm more into lounge jazz-based, groove/electronica, such artists as, album names following in italics,

De-Phazz - Daily Lama, Death by Chocolate, Detunized Gravity
Koop - Waltz for Koop, Waltz for Koop (Alternate Takes), Sons of Koop, Koop Islands
St. Germain - Boulevard, Tourist

They're super, sexy, super-sexy, and on some albums, out-of-print. But those are only going to interest you if you're interested in "artsy" jazz/electronica. De-Phazz is able to make anything sound sexy. Like being on the internet, for example.

Sites like Amazon or even Circuit City.com offer audio album music clip samples for these.

Well unless it's an 80's theme. There gonna choose recent popular songs which wiil happen to be pop/soft rock/punk/rap. That's not so bad but it's modern day music so, retch.

Schwarzer
09-08-2007, 02:06 PM
Rap music would actually be good if they put more instrumental accompaniment into it, as illustrated by the rap themes used in JRPGs in games like Ar-Tonelico (about 2-3 of the battle themes had short, 40 second raps at the end), Star Ocean 3 ("Bitter Dance"), and Persona 3 (many of them) are excellent, and rap isn't a genre I search out, either.

Unfortunately, most people think indistinguishable lyrics are fashionable, that "being pimp" or "gasgsta" or "ghetto" are admirable traits, and rap vocals just sound like they're talking rhythmically. If you ask me, that's just not music.

It's because I don't care for the vocal style, lyrics, subject matter, or the vocalist(s) themselves, that rap music, more often than not, strikes out with me.

No-one called it singing, that's why there called rappers not rap singers, Have you ever read a poem and used a preset beat/rhythm for emphasis? and How is it a broken rhythm, and rap can be about anything, rap can be inspirational, rap is an expression of self that modern media has mutated. That's great, and you will not regret it. Most of it was recorded in the early 80's, but boy, you're in for a surprise if you think it sounds like anything from that decade. :)

No synthesizers or insane drummings! Just pure soul and rhythm.
