Oh, that theme.

That's not that bad. I thought you meant that "The Best is Yet to Come" was plagiarized, in which case I'd have to kill someone.

Yeah, I already knew that the main theme from MGS was copied from a Russian composer's music.
But it's not exactly the same music. I prefer the MGS version.

I liked the track. Thanks for supplying it. Now if only someone could upload the MGS4 soundtrack sometime. But I guess the game hasn't been released yet so that probably complicates matters.

I thought some inspiration came from the theme to Speed. We were watching the movie in French class in high school and after hearing the music at the start my friend screamed, "METAL GEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!". It was loud.

But who really cares anyway? Is someone going to show him Escape From New York as well?

That's pretty funny, actually. It's a classical song though, right? Can a company or label actually own a song like that?

It's pretty crazy that the MGS composer used nearly the entire song, and not just a few chords from it. Like if you didn't know any better, you'd think it was a classical rendition of the MGS theme.

don't matter. kojima already said Iroquis Plissken from MGS2 is based on a character from Escape From New York, not to mention, previous versions of Snake from Metal Gear series.

Yeah, but what does the music have to do with Kojima?

Well, it really doesn't have to anything with him. Its just that he is the mastermind behind the MGS games so of course when a game like this comes out, its gotta boast some really great music. I kinda like this track.

EDIT:

Ok... after listening to the MGS Main Theme.... yep everything is roughly the same. Oddly though, I actually prefer this song, probably because I'm a buff for classical music and I"m happy someone was able to put this up.

hmm everytime i watch a movie i see something that i have seen also in metal gear solid. i was watching this jacky chan movie, and this bit were the guy kicked and than left his leg up, was exactly like when the ninja kicked a guard and left his leg up. the same angle and everything.

but i havn't heard any other film music that sounds like mgs.

Yeah, but what does the music have to do with Kojima?
Kojima is the producer/director of MGS. HGW created MGS main theme (ripped off version), so HGW created the main theme for Kojima's game. Kojima overseers everything that is related to MGS.

Do you not see the pattern here?

Whats the point to all of this?

There are tons of references in media of all types, this is no different.

very true, go watch the clint eastwood movie: the good the bad and the ugly (around the 2:23 mark), then listen to the overworld music to wild arms 1 (ps1)

a blatant copy; moreso than metal gear

Plagiarism or not, all the "Inspirations" are fascinating, for me, to match up.

Georgi Svidorv's "Winter road" to Tappy/Rika Muranaka's MGS theme [HGW didn't come around til MGS2, do some research]
Snake Plisken to Dave Iroquoi "Snake" Plissken

You name it, any comparisons to other games/movies/whatnot, if you really enjoy the games, are really irrelvant, if not fascinating.

The Plagiarism accusations do not detract from the games one bit for me. Especially with the intricate [and sometimes really screws with your head up!] story line throughout the series. Hideo Kojima is a freakin genius, if you ask me....

As has been pointed out, Harry Gregson-Williams contributed the most recognizable orchestration of the theme in MGS2, but the piece was composed for MGS1 by TAPPY Iwase.

Personally, I wish Konami had found a way to settle with the copyright holders or figured out a way to bypass legal difficulty. The theme is very important to the series, and I missed hearing it in MGS4.

If anything was ripped off for MGS1 soundtrack, its Speed 1.

Alright let me get this trough.

No one made any kind of accusations toward anyone. Not a single legal representative.

The similarity was shown. Now hear me out, because this is really simple and important.

The publisher, Konami made the move to drop the use of the theme to avoid further possible legal actions by anyone. Case closed.

This can't be that hard to understand.

It's not that it's hard to understand. I didn't ever think - or mean to suggest - that there was an actual legal dispute.

I just wish Konami could have gone ahead and made some sort of deal to use the theme one last time for MGS4. I missed it.

I agree, but then again they didn't do that and that's it. As for the theme itself, well you can hear it in both the Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3. I'm listening the MGS3 soundtrack as we speak.

I realize this is a little old of a thread, but I thought I'd point out that MGS4 DOES have the original theme in it. On the OST, it's called "Metal Gear Saga"

No, that one is Harry Gregson-Williams "addition" to the theme that was introduced I believe in MGS 2. The original theme was built upon with Gregson-Williams's theme. 'Meta Gear Saga' is just one long track of his theme and it does not contain the original. Which sucks because honestly... it's difficult to listen to Metal Gear Saga without the original theme.
