i dont know about you but every time i watch an episode i find that each one throws in a clever joke that lasts about 2 seconds and seems to slip by so easily to everyone. well this thread is to get people posting them. tell us what we missed people i know you saw it.

heres mine:

when fry and lela go to the moon and they run to the clear glass farm to refill their oxygen tanks and the farmer runs out and says

"hey, whadda think yer doin'? oxygen dont grow on trees!"

Yeah, Futurama is for the "S-M-R-T... I mean... S-M-A-R-T" Simpsons fan.

My friend barely got that, 'till one day he calls me up and says:
Dude, I didn't know Futurama had all kinds of innuendos and smart jokes!?

I'm like yeah man, it's intended for the mature Simpsons fans. Why do you think no one got it 'till after it got cancelled.
I'm glad it's returning next year! :)

I thought this was called "Futurama subtitle brilliance" and thought maybe there was hidden jokes in the subtitles or something, OH WELL. But yeah, Futurama is magnificent.

I miss Futurama :/ . Jurassic Bark actually tugged on my heartstrings hard and I actually liked The Sting so much that I have it on tape somewhere (and have actually went through that part of the tape over a dozen times).

I liked Futurama, and indeed it was clever and hilarious at the same time. It's a shame that it could not coexist with its predecssor like American Dad and Family Guy (love FG but not so much AD) :(

Futurama: Original airing March 28, 1999

Family Guy: Original airing January 31, 1999February 14, 2002 & May 1, 2005present

American Dad: Original run February 6, 2005 present

Futurama isen't a predecessor to either of them. Well maybe a little bit to Family Guy... But since the teams working on Futurama and Family Guy aren't the same ones it doesn't matter anyway.

My favorite moment would be when Fry and Zapp crash on the giant Amazone planet and get sentenced to death by Shnushnu (sexual intercourse with a giant lady leading to chrushed pelvis). Fry: 'I never thought I was gonna die this way. I did hope so though.'

Great stuff ^^

I was inferring that Simpsons was the predecessor or progenitor of Futurama, as Family Guy was the predecessor/progenitor of American Dad

The Sting? Yeah. I that episode rocks. I mean, the amount of surreal happenings, and the crew breaking out into a version of Bobby McFerrin's "Don't Worry, Be Happy". Great stuff I can never tire of watching over and over.

Have you seen a sketch show it's funny and follows no plot. Comedy isn't measured by story telling, it measured by humor. If it does not configure to your humor that's just fine, but just saying, "It's not funny because it does not make sense" is asinine. As far as subtle humor is involved, Family guy doesn't have it.

I don't really see how that would be asinine. How is having a discussion about cripples and switching over to Hitler on a unicycle, juggling bowling pins funny?

The flashbacks are not as arbitrary as that. They come with set ups, like peter will say I haven't been this scared since:...; Or this is cooler than....; or I haven't felt this stupid since... and etc. And the humor is baseless like watching a clip show, it's comical instances not jokes. That's like asking why is a loud fart in a silent room funny.

Rainbow Boogers
02-22-2008, 01:27 AM
Really depends on the fart and if the silent room is enclosed.

But I get what you're saying. I usually have Family Guy on as background noise, however whenever I watch it, they show a lot of randomness. Maybe it's just the few eps. I've seen.

lenneth
02-22-2008, 01:42 AM
I agree with Boogers for the most part. The whole "LOL RANDOM FLASHBACK CLIP TO SOMETHING IRRELEVANT WASNT THAT RANDOM AND TEH LULS XD" gets old on Family Guy after awhile.

I think I've seen more eps of Family Guy and less of Futurama, but Family Guy is far more hit or miss.

KREAYSHAWN
02-22-2008, 03:45 AM
a lot of the set ups seem stretched to me, like they just really want to include something silly and random

the jokes that go on far too long and are supposed to make you laugh because of that get really really old after youve seen it down about twice.

matt damon
02-22-2008, 06:28 AM
the randomness is what makes it funny, that's it's so absurd and makes no sense that it's hilarious. you just have to go into it knowing that it's going to make almsot no sense and not trying to figure out the flashbacks.

(it also helps if you're a random person, as i am, lol)

Yeah, i agree with this. Sometimes, even though im like"what the fuck", it still tickles me.

The one where peter is at a football game, and he is like "ah, this sucks, id rather be at home, watching that video from the ring",.. i think people will know that one.

And the one where stewie say's he's gunna humiliate olivia worse than luke skywalker did to that rebel pilot...Genius!!

also this is funny.

Im really in the mood to watch futurama now. I generally prefer its humour to simpsons or family guy. Both of those are stupidly random these days.

http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=family+guy+tetris&search_type=I only find it funny on occasion. What keeps me watching is classic Stewie (trying to kill his mother and dominate the world, none of this unfunny boring humour playing on him being homo/metrosexual) and the Meg jokes. God I adore the Meg jokes. Playing on what a boring unloved wench she is. Hilarious. I especially like it when she gets angry over it "YOU CAN'T SELL ME YA FAT SON OF A BITCH!"

KREAYSHAWN

being random is fine but its not really the same thing as wit. it gets really old really fast, and most of it is just a reference to some old movie with some part replaced with something arbitrary. i mean it is silly. it is random in a way, but it isnt like it is all that awe inspiringly strange, just kind of dumb. like there are some really good jokes in the show, i just think it is buried under a lot of formulaic boring "random" stuff. and an awful lot of episodes just, you know, miss.

i actually got annoyed with the "classic stewie" rather quickly. you can only take so much of "i'll kill you lois!" and meg wasn't always treated so poorly. in fact, in the beginning, everyone in the family was rather nice to her and you could see that they all loved her.

RikkuYunaRinoa
02-23-2008, 01:34 PM
Yeah, the "Il kill lois" has gotten old for me. But stewie is by far my favorite character. Just his mannerism. In the last few seasons, the humour around him has become alot more clever and i think this makes it better.
