Just curious. I was thinking it would be fun to have an FFS Tourney, maybe even make it an annual tradition, but it will only be cool if there are a lot of people who want to participate. So post here if you'd be interested, please.

Generally speaking I'm thinking there would be a pretty standard ruleset (ubers are banned etc.) but I'm also open to the idea of players agreeing on rules if they so choose.

Honestly, even though I'm somewhat anti-pokemon, (except Manaphy <3) I would so do it. Except I don't own a pokemon game or even a DS.

Even though I'm no where near ready to compete in a tournament, I like this idea. A LOT. I've already got Combusken, Manaphy, and Beautifly. I just need an Eevee, a Bulbasaur, and a Munchlax :D

Just a warning, Manaphy is leaning towards being considered uber at this point.

Like I said, if we do this, I'm open to custom rulesets. But in standard I don't think it would be allowed.

Blah!

In that case, make it a card tournament. To Pokemon fanboys, it's pretty much the same thing!

Isn't that right Ash!? :p

I'd participate if I bothered to play the game and didn't have only 3 badges.

I should get on that sometime soon.

Like I said, TK, I'm not ready to do it anyway, I just loved Gara's idea because I am building a May Team for myself :D

You are absolutely right, though. Squirtle it is!

EDIT: Hell, I don't even know--yet--how that team would fare in a tournament :o

It would be at least somewhat workable if you evolved Eevee into a Vaporeon and maxed its defenses. You'd still get walked all over by Heracross etc. though.

Too much time and effort for not enough fun :(.

I'd do an MKDS tourney though.

Makes me wonder if I should of stopped playing Pokemon at Pokemon Yellow. @_@

I'd do an MKDS tourney though.

I think I'd aghast everyone with my customized emblem if I participated in such a tournament. :p

Depends. Would we just catch pokemon, level them up and battle? Or go through the entire IV/EV training things and beneficial natures (though that's easier to accomplish) and breeding thing?

Because I've always found problems with getting myself motivated for that :p

You could compete using whatever Pokemon you wish (that are legal). I'm not aware of anyone here besides myself and Garamond who actually bothers to breed for IVs and train for EVs, and I was figuring I'd be running the thing so I wouldn't compete.

Honestly, the only part of it that is really hard is breeding for IVs. Even if you don't go through that process, you can pretty easily just EV train your Pokemon and it will still make an enormous difference in their effectiveness. IV breeding is only necessary for people who are super hardcore about winning. Even I only moderately IV breed; I am willing to accept mediocre stuff just so long as I've ensured I have enough points in the stats that are really crucial and that the other ones aren't absolutely terrible.

And EV training can be done very quickly. There are items you can win at the battle tower that add 4 EVs to the normal amount you'd gain from defeating a Pokemon, and there's a guide on Gamefaqs that will tell you very effective locations to do the training. Add to that the fact that you can get 100 EVs instantly with vitamins if you use them before doing any other EV training, and it shouldn't take you any more than 20 to 30 minutes to train one Pokemon. Like, say you want 252 EVs in HP. You give the thing 10 HP ups, and then all you need is 152. Now you go to route 112 and surf, and the only enemy you'll meet is wooper (1 HP EV) and the occasional quagsire (2 HP EVs). Even if all you ever encounter is woopers, if you equip the power item for HP gain, you will only have to fight 30 woopers to get to 150, and then take off the power item and fight two more. Considering how frequent random battles are in D/P, and how easy it is to KO a wooper, that really doesn't take very long.

It's even quicker if you trade for a Pokemon with pokerus, which I'm sure you could easily find someone willing to give you on a pokemon board.

Anyway, the only reason I've typed that out is because I don't want people to be intimidated by trying to be at least semicompetitive in pokemon. It's a lot more fun than it is work. You don't have to memorize the type charts or Pokemon because you can just have them as reference in front of you on the computer. And anyway this would just be for fun, it really doesn't matter who wins.

That said, so far the interest has been lackluster so this probably isn't going to happen. :P

EDIT: as an alternative, we could always use shoddy battle. That has the advantage of allowing you to keep a log of the battle. Personally I think it's a lot less cool than using pokemon you raised yourself but if people would be more interested in using a simulator, it can be done. Shoddy is almost completely bug-free now.

About the ruleset I think we can follow pretty much the standard ruleset and tiers of Smogon(Im not sure if I can post this)

Okay so I've been playing Diamond again and I just got the National pokedex.

NOW, I need some pokemons. A DITTO.

Trade me this and I will start building a team np. If your Ditto has neato IVs well that is a plus.
