Safer Sephiroth

For many years I've hailed FFVII as being one of the best RPG's of all time if not one of the greatest games ever made. But last night after re-watching Advent Children I realized that there's a lot of things concerning the story line that I don't completely understand. I've played this game more times than you can count on both hands and I still have some questions..

For example, what exactly was Jenova? What about Sephiroth? He was created using the science of cloning and Mako using Jenova DNA, right? The Cetra were really aliens from another world? What was Sephiroth's real motive throughout the course of the game? Was it to carry out Jenova's will to take over the planet or was he out for revenge against the human race for doing whatever they did to Jenova? The "Promised Land"... what was it really?

Seriously, you wouldn't believe how many times we've heard the exact same plot holes.....

You know what? fuck off.

Do you actually contribute anything to these forums other than telling people to fuck off, or telling them they're morons, or insulting them otherwise? Every post of yours I've seen lately has been an insult completely devoid of a valid point, or even an invalid one, for that matter. If you're not going to say something of use, kindly shut up, eh?

Anyway, now for a serious post. To the original poster, try reading the plot analysis (http://www.gamefaqs.com/computer/doswin/file/130791/16725) posted by falsehead on gamefaqs. It gives generally plausible answers to the many, many questions surrounding FFVII's plot. Unfortunately these answers will never be more than speculation based on titbits of information provided in the game, but for that you can thank Square for making such an incomplete game.

For example, what exactly was Jenova?
An alien that feeds off planets by killing everything.

What about Sephiroth? He was created using the science of cloning and Mako using Jenova DNA, right?
No, he was injected with Jenova cells while still in the womb. Thus his mental instability.

It's also worth noting that 'clone' is used differently in FFVII to how it would usually be used: in FFVII 'Sephiroth clones' are people who are injected with Jenova Cells and showered with Mako who don't have the mental stability in order to prevent them from going insane. This differentiate them from 'Soldiers' who go through a similar process but are mentally stable enough to stave off the influence of Jenova. 'Sephiroth Clones' are named as such because they were an attempt by Hojo to create 'another Sephiroth' (ie someone who is of similar power, but not identical as the name would imply, to Sephiroth). This is often one of the main sources of confusion over the plot in FFVII.

The Cetra were really aliens from another world?
No, just an advanced race that could use magic.

What was Sephiroth's real motive throughout the course of the game?
To cause a great deal of damage to the planet via crashing meteor into it and absorb all the energy the planet would expend to try and heal itself in order to become a god-like entity.

Was it to carry out Jenova's will to take over the planet or was he out for revenge against the human race for doing whatever they did to Jenova?
His original motive is to restore what he considers to be Jenova's rightful rule over the planet but apparently his motivations change after he 'dies' and is reincarnated in the Northern Crater. No reason is ever really stated for this but apparently he does eventually become aware of the true nature of Jenova as in Advent Children he seems to be aware that Jenova is an alien, which would contradict his original view that she was a Cetra. Some assume that he merges with Jenova in the Northern Crater, which would explain both his change of heart and the manner in which he is able to manipulate both Jenova clones and Jenova's dismembered body but once again there isn't enough information given within the game (nor in supplementary material, to the best of my knowledge) to confirm such an assertion.

The "Promised Land"... what was it really?
It's left ambiguous. Most assume it's the lifestream.

I think that about covers it.

A quick check through your recent posts suggests otherwise.

And there was certainly no point whatsoever in what you posted in this thread.

Some of your most recent posts:

"Your name is offensive, so I will not welcome you, go away."

"You are completely pathetic, please fuck off, you arrogant fangirl.
and close this shit."

"oh wow, 5 year old thread revived for this crap."

and of course the one that got my attention

"You know what? fuck off."

All these were found on the first page of your 'more posts by the master', so I dread to think how many more completely pointless comments I'd find if I did a bit of digging.

No, you're right. Forgive me. I was totally wrong. You posts are worthwhile, constructive and of course, in brilliant taste.

In a nutshell:

Jenova was originally thought to be an ancient.

But the shit hit the fan when it turned out she was the mommy-queen of a nasty alien race.

Jenova takes ancient shits. Okay I'll write that down.
