I got my DS Lite a couple of days ago, and Im planning on getting a new game. The thing is I havent been into handhelds since GameBoy Color, so Im not really sure what I should get. I already have Final Fantasy III (it came with the DS).
So, do you guys have any good games to suggest for the system? (Im also interested ni GB:A games ;))

Thanks in advance

Battles of Prince of Persia and Mario Kart. Only DS games you'll ever need.

Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time. With that fancy GBA Backwards Compatibility, might I suggest you pick up Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga as well. Best RPGs on the GBA/DS. Final Fantasy, eat your heart out.

Feel the Magic XY/XX and The Rub Rabbits are really enjoyable and funny games if you're into stylish minigame compilations. Actually, those are the only minigame compilations I could ever recommend anybdoy.

Is Mario Kart that good? Ive never played it, (I was always a CTR fan). Pokemon is in my future plans too.
Battles of Prince of Persia sounds interesting (Ive read that it has a turned based system, so it should be quite different than the normal PoP games).

I use to adore CTR then I bought Mario Kart DS and I will never ever go back to crash. It excels into all of CTR's flaws and now has a mission mode (although that is quite easy to complete)

BoPoP is a good sidetrack from most DS games tbh. It isn't very thrilling multiplayer but it's a game that can keep you amused for hours.

I'd suggest New Super Mario Bros., and Advance Wars Dual Strike.

New Super Mario Bros. is a nostalgic return to the series' roots, the platform genre, whereas Advance Wars: Dual Strike expands upon it's second Game Boy predecessor with great additions and whatnot, and still retains it's attribute of being easily to play, yet hard to master.

I also recommend the upcoming Worms: Open Warfare II, but only if you're acquainted with previous installments of the series.

GBA Games: Castlevania: Circle Of The Moon, Astro Boy: Omega Factor (this is actually a very good game, especially storywise), The Legend Of Zelda: The Minish Cap, Advance Wars 1&2, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga.

DS: Mario Kart DS (I was pretty addicted this for about two months), Advance Wars: Dual Strike, New Super Mario Bros., Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, Hotel Dusk, Mario & Luigi: Partners In Time, Pokmon Diamond/Pearl.

Mario Kart now seems to be in my list ;)

I will be taking New Super Mario Bros. for sure when I get the chance, I always loved the original Super Mario Bros.

Advance Wars: Dual Strike sounds really interesting. I was never into strategy games on consoles, I always prefered the mouse + keyboard combination. But now I have a stylus :)

I was always a fan of the 2D Worms games on PCs. But as far as Ive read, the first Worms: Open Warfare was a very poor game. I would wait for some reviews for it (Shame that they just dont port Worms 2).

GBA Games: Castlevania: Circle Of The Moon, Astro Boy: Omega Factor (this is actually a very good game, especially storywise), The Legend Of Zelda: The Minish Cap, Advance Wars 1&2, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga.

Thats a lot of games there. I really need to do some research for some of those! (just now I realise how rich DS's library of videogames is)

Thanks everybody for the replies. You are really helping me here

Iplay Tamagotchi corner shop 1 and 2 alot, and love them. But it's not many peoples things.

Digimon DS is coming soon too and i need a wifi buddy. But again, that's only if Digimon is your thing.

Then there's the pokemons and usual suspects that are MUST haves.

No handheld is complete without the obligatory Tetris cart. Get Tetris DS. Actually, that's the only DS game I have that supports the Nintendo WiFi service :/

Also wait for FFXII Revenant Wings.

Lastly, get the FFVI Advance and FFV Advance as well as FF Tactics Advance. And Tales of Phantasia - not a Square game, but great story nontheless.

Oh, hey I forgot all about GBA games. What RAMChYLD said (minus Tactics Advance), plus Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories.

You can't go wrong with Poke'mon Diamond & Pearl seeing as how those are two of the best selling DS games ever. I have Diamond personally and it's a great addition to the series. I haven't played it in awhile though but that's because I've been gaming on my PS2 a lot lately. :p

I agree, that is definately a game I would suggest, its very simple to play but the only bad thing is it might not last a long time. I personally had a lot of fun playing the game but it is a little childish.

If you want a game that lasts long, Animal Crossing: Wild World can pretty much last forever, I got the game probably less then a month ago and although I never played the original Animal Crossing I really enjoy this one.

As far as GBA I would say Legend of Zelda: Minish cap, I know someone else suggested it already, but I think that is probably one of my favorite GBA games.

I don't want to run my mouth here, but you should definitely get all of the available FF titles on the GBA, and of course FFIII, for the DS to add to your collection.

I already got FF III, and ordered FFVI. If Im not mistaken, there are FFIV, FFV, FF Tactics Advance, A sequel to FFT which will be coming on DS, the FFXII sequel on DS and FFIV Remake, also for the DS.
Did I miss anything? :s

It is a sequel, I played the Japanese version. It's also shit.

The new Crystal Chronicles DS game, however, actually seems pretty decent. I would recommend looking into that when it's released in English.
