lots of action, little story. no rpgs. even things reminiscent of old arcade games are fine (ie, geometry wars). I want stuff that's easy to pick up and play and doesn't require huge globs of time and really has fun gameplay.

pretty much open to most genres. there are very, very few ps2 games I've played all in all.

random things I like to give you an idea of my taste:

- geometry wars. lurve it.

- the original doom. not the new one, but not for the reasons other people list; it's just not as hard on the action as I want my doom. 20 minutes of wandering around before I get to shoot anything? nothx

- tony hawk-esque things. I'm not a huge fan of tony hawk per se, but I did love it for a few reasons. namely: short games, fun gameplay, and the the high scores made it challenging enough to be fun ~ mostly referring to the old ones, haven't touched the new ones.

- raiden 3, ikaruga: arcade-esque, lots of action. prefer raiden 3 to ikaruga actually since I'm not so big on bullet hell when all you have to do is memorize the same patterns they do every single time.

any suggestions? ;-;; nothing has to be exactly like the above games, but just stuff with lots of action, little filler, and the ability to play it [and have it be enjoyable] in small chunks of gameplay.

I haven't played resident evil since 2. would 4 fit my profile, or is there a lot of story/filler when compared to the action? how does the wii version stack up to the ps2 one?

-Katamari Damacy-

You can play a level in about 2 minutes, but you'll be playing it all night.

-Guitar Hero-

I need say no more.

Well, since you like SHMUPS alot, I'd recommend the Metal Slug Anthology. The game collection contains Metal Slug 1 through 6 and X. It has little story, lots of side-scrolling and shooting action (the game is known to throw hordes of enemies onscreen), and is pretty hilarious to boot.

I'd probably also recommend Dance Dance Revolution, but with a standard PS2 gamepad instead of the mat (see that Pink Dinosaur and Hot Limit videos I made on Youtube? I didn't use a mat with those).

At first I thought you meant any system but now...PS2...I don't think I really played anything without story. God of War 2 was probably the most action packed game I played on that system though. Dunno if you'd be interested O___o.

Also, i would agree with Katamari Damacy and Metal Slug series.

Well, you could try Devil May Cry 3. It's an action/adventure title and is definitely the most action packed game I've ever played. It's very suited for short attention spans. It's also very suited for replaying because of it's mission select screen, difficulties, fighting styles, different weapons that you can build up and costumes to unlock. Supposedly, it's also kinda hard. I've never had much trouble myself, though. Now Ghosts n Goblins... I still need to get past level 2.

And RE4... well, it's kinda slow paced. As you probably already know, you can't shoot and walk at the same time. This adds lots of tension and frustration in the beginning. You also get plenty of moments to breath in this game, and you need to solve simple "get this and put it there" puzzles. But the game is still mostly action. Can't say anything about how the Wii version stacks up to the PS2 version as I haven't played it. From what I've seen of the Wii version though, I wouldn't wanna play it myself. That on-screen cross hair feels totally out of place, and aiming with the Wii mote drastically changes gameplay, I think.

I own the GC and the PS2 version, and despite the bonuses the PS2 version gives, I'd go for the GC version. The graphical difference is huge, and I'm usually not a graphics whore, but it's kinda important in a game like this.

Gungrave, just shooting and awesome anime style to boot. It doesn't get more arcadey than that.

Any given Ace Combat game is pretty good on the action and "pick up and play" stuff with it's Arcade Mode. Real world fighter jets in dogfights!

God of War does have a short bit of setup in the beginning, but after that it's pretty much non-stop goodness on action and beating the fuck out of greek/roman mythological monsters (oh, and the threesome with two chicks minigame after the first boss fight, which is overrated and censored, but controversial when the game first came out).

I think there are also some R-type and Gradius collections available for the PS2 which will have buttloads of shmups on them from those franchises.

Uh, that's a third-party developer making a motion-sensitive controller specifically for their games. Not Sony making a peripheral that rips off the Wii that will work with all games.
