Wait it out in the Sandsea, those little guys will give you loads of EXP at that stage and you'll eventually be good enough to resist their numerical advantage. Plus they're great for chains.

Try going back to Rabanastre and doing some hunts/upgrading your equipment. You'll get Vossler a little way into the Sandsea, and he should keep you safe while you gather exp.

Vossler is the shit!!!!! But he takes a quarter of the experience so if your strong enough on your own its better to kill him off yourself so as to get experience for your permanent characters!!

Oh how I cannot stand Vossler (in specific). I loathe guest characters (even though I honestly love Larsa and Reddas) simply because they will break your chains in a heartbeat.

So it is instant and repeated death for them.

I don't understand the hate for the guest characters; they were always hitting for damage than my main party, and I couldn't have won the Demon Wall battle without Vossler.

No, he doesn't. Guests don't accumulate EXP.

Also, Knegative, guests in general rule. Larsa in particular. And I managed a 200-chain in the Sandsea despite Vossler very much being around. If you don't want your guests to break your chains, flee from foes who you aren't trying to chain.

The only problem with guests-their HP levels are generally awful. I think a seperate License Board for each guest would have been appropriate, personally.

You may be right, but I did a run through the Sandsea yesterday with Vossler for the story bit, and then without him to hunt the Wyvern Lord, and I noticed no difference in the EXP I was getting.

Because I leveled as long as I always did, guest characters always sucked compared to my guys. Sure, they'd be similarly leveled, but they just didn't cut it.

And why should I have to run everytime I come across a non-chain enemy, when I can just set up my gambits for Foe: Party Leader's Target and just manually attack an enemy with Penelo, allowing the others to follow suit? It's a little bit more effort, but it almost assures that I won't screw up a chain, and if I do, it's my fault. Can't tell you how many times a guest character has killed a non-chain enemy when I wasn't paying attention.

Their miniscule help is nothing compared to the problems they caused me.

I reiterate, Death to guest characters. :p

Those of us that don't grind insanely and do every hunt and sidequest (though I'm working on that now) found them highly useful, especially Larsa.

The Elder Wyrm would have kicked ten tonnes of sh*t into me if it weren't for Larsa keeping me alive with his unlimited stock of Hi-Potions and X-Potions.

iirc, you can't set up gambits for Guest characters

So to be clear:

samonasuke

Your characters technically cant be higher than your guest characters levels because they dont have a set level, the way it goes is as follows:

Amalia (ashe): Average level of your two highest level characters +1
Basch (whens hes a guest): Average level of your two highest level characters +2
Lamont/Larsa: Average level of your two highest level characters +2
Vossler: Average level of your two highest level characters +4
Reddas:Average level of your two highest level characters +2

There you go, it is almost physically imposible ( unless you only level up 1 character) to have a guest character lower levels then you.

However Im not saying they are not weaker, because in general with the exception of vossler, they are weaker.

what are chains for???........??????

Neg
08-17-2007, 05:21 AM
They increase the number of drops you get from a certain enemy (or enemy type, but that's a whole discussion unto itself), and what they actually drop. You get better items from them depending on your chain level.

Just in case some people dont know, guest cahracters do actually have gambits, but they arent in your control and you cant see them. You can find them online somewhere if you want to know what they are or if you cant find them pm and ill tell ya!

Any dungeon is fair game. Personally I think Ozmone Plain is a pretty good place to level at this point in the game, as the Mesmenirs there drop Iron Carapaces which are worth around 450 gil apiece. You can chain them for Monty Burns-scale riches.

The Henne Mines are pretty good for grinding. I'd say get to about Level 25 at this stage.

Your levels are OK for that stage of the game in my opinion. If you want to do some grinding, I'd wait til you get to the Mosphoran Highwaste (won't be long now) as there are some good rare monsters that spawn there and give a couple of thousand EXP per kill. And the flyers there give you over 1,000 too.

Try about 14-16, at least with your main party anyway. If you can't beat the enemies in the Sandsea, head back to the Westersand where you'll find much easier foes.

Sandsea is a very good place to grind out. If your still stuck, you could go back to lhusu mines and chain the skeletons in the second long bridge. I got from lv. 9 to lvl. 18 in there, but I dont mind grinding really.

samonasuke
08-25-2007, 09:05 PM
The pirate figure in the den is easy. chains are almost required for getting the items for synthing. The tournesol is impossible to get without chaining, the hells gate flames from the cerberus would be virtually impossible to get without chaining, also the sagittarius gems for the sagittarius bow from the oilings in the stillshrine of miriam are the same.

Actually I found chaining for Hells Gate Flames to be counter-productive. They are a monograph drop from Cerberus, not a chain drop, so I'd just run through and kill a bunch each time I went to chain mirrorknights.

Chaos-R3aper:
I assume you mean Tomb of Raithwall? Take the North passage, run around till you come to a switch, then teleport back. Then take the South passage, run around till you find a switch, then teleport back. Then take the (north or south again, can't remember...wherever the new room opened up). Easy enough.

If one of Square's goals in creating FF12 was to get fans out there talking about the game, exchanging strategies and secrets, and building a sort of community, then I think they achieved that. I honestly don't see the problem with the Zodiac Spear secret. It's not needed to finish the game, and if you want to collect everything or get a 'Perfect Game' (or whatever the hell these diehards do), you'd need to consult some sort of reference anyway.

Does anyone else wonder how the hell Brady Games stays in business with the internet and free FAQs for nearly any game you could possibly want?

I dont really understand what you are saying. If you are saying that you can find it as a torrent after a few months, the book is much easier to navigate then an onscreen version, and also its pretty annoying to go back to your desktop and then back to your ps2 if you want to know something.

Damn, guest characters would become a liability after awhile; my party would level up, but they wouldn't, so I had to constantly heal them or revive them instead of actually fighting.

It's really best to level up as you go, at least so you don't reach a point where you have the opportunity but find yourself unable to do so because your characters aren't strong enough. Because I would attempt to gain levels at every available area, I didn't really need to gain them later.

Make sure you have some good armor, weapons, and spells available to use along the way - there's no use gaining LP if you don't have anything good to apply it towards, too.
