OK. I'm just wondering what levels/equipment everyone here had when they entered. I'm having problems with the rooks in the central part of the fortress at the moment. It's not so much that I can't kill them, but more that by the time I kill one, two more have already arrived, so I eventually have to flee with about 8 or 9 rooks attacking me. The imperials aren't any bother, though. It's just, if I'm struggling with the rooks, I dread to think how I'll get on against the final bosses.

This is my party at the moment-I don't have any of the 'ultimate' equipment (Zodiac Spear etc) but have more or less the whole licence board filled for everyone.

Anyway, this what I have right now.

Vaan - Lv 42 - Zwill Crossblade, Dragon Shield, Thief's Cap, Ninja Gear, Pheasant Netsuke HP 3740 MP 458

Balthier - Lv 50 - Antares, Wyrmfire Shot, Thief's Cap, Minerva Bustier, Thief's Cuffs HP 4461 MP 442

Fran - Lv 53 - Penetrator Crossbow, Lead Bolts, Chaperon, Minerva Bustier, Jade Collar HP 4573 MP 570

Basch - Lv 55 - Deathbringer, Aegis Shield, Gigas Hat, Rubber Suit, Gauntlets HP 5111 MP 424

Ashe - Lv 50 - Platinum Sword, Aegis Shield, Crown of Laurels, Sorcerer's Habit, Sage's Ring HP 3900 MP 612

Penelo - Lv 42 - Zwill Crossblade, Platinum Shield, Thief's Cap, Ninja Gear, Magick Gloves HP 3556 MP 488

Is this below average or am I just not very good? I've already literally spent about half my play time (120 hours) doing mindless grinding, mostly around the Cerobi Steppe. I can't be the only one who thinks it's all a bit excessive?

Grateful for any feedback.

I still stand by my conviction that you don't have to grind if you do every sidequest and hunt as they become available. I can't honestly say if those levels are high enough, but I would think they are. I went in with Penelo at 80 and everyone else in their high 60s and it was a breeze.

Whilst not wanting to turn this into a criticism thread, (I'll get round to that once I eventually finish it) doing every single sidequest and hunt is an awful lot of work, and since I'm at 120 hrs already which is way more than I usually spend on an RPG, I'm at the point where I just want to advance the story. If I absolutely have to grind I will, but if others have done it at lower levels and can offer some tips, that'd be great.

Just for the record, in terms of hunts I've done about half of them including a few elite marks, my clan rank is Riskbreaker with around 1.5 million clan points.

As I've said many times previous, I "finished" with 213 and I'm not all that close to Order of Ambrosia, so yeah, XII does take a lot of time.

I beat the game at about 140 (or 160?) hours, and I was OoA, + all ultimate weapons, etc. So ha. :P :)

to the OP of this thread: your levels are fine. The rooks can be a bitch even at level 80 because they do gang up on you. Just run from them. You need to get to the center of the big circle thingy, I hope you know what I mean.

I just finished the game with pretty much those levels.

Although the majority of the bosses on the Bahamut were rather easy in my opinion, The Undying was the hardest last boss FF has produced in many a game, so hats off to the developers.

I'll post up a summary of the rest of my thoughts tomorrow.

I found the undying a little bit easy.... but maybe thats because I beat him lv. 85 unarmed............................... taking a page out of terabytes book.

Well yes, but you're unlikely to get to Lv 85 unless you've done some serious grinding. I felt I'd done a lot of grinding, despite only being Lv 50 or so. I'm really comparing with other FFs when done at similar levels.

Hats off to you. Well done. (Were your characters one-shotting the Imperials, too?)

Mhhh imo you can do anything there with bout lv 20 charcters, felt that easy... mine were all round 55-60, and I swear, too easy... Felt as if I was doing a FFVIII SEED Training campaign..

With Lv 20 characters you'd be going down to The Undying's physical attacks, never mind his more powerful technicks.

I posted a review up on GameFAQs. You can read it here, if you give enough of a shit:

Sorry, cant say I do............ I still think you should extend your knowledge of ff 12 before you write a review...... For example you never experienced some of the best parts of the game, making the tournesol, Omega Mark XII, Yiazmat... All these make the game what it is.............. Thats the whole thing with final fantasy, you just dont get your moneys worth until you do as much of the game as you can. Although I must make one criticism, the sub quests did not offer enough in terms of story or background, unlike X-2

I've done a good amount of sidequests and hunts. Right now I'm on a second playthrough to do more optional areas, but I really doubt fighting a few super-monsters with insanely high HP is going to change my opinion of the game significantly. I've noted in my review that the hunts give the game great lifespan.

Change your opinion of the game, i doubt it. But it should certainly give you a greater sense of achievement or success. Thats how I felt anyway

Yeah, one can easily do the entire game in under 160 hours and be OoA when following a Guide for Dumb Players.

Worst thing in all that is that some of these dumb players still come here to boast and pretend they achieved something.

Fehhh..

Worse IMO is that people think they're actually achieving anything at all by playing a video game, with or without a guide.

Economics Lesson:
The opportunity cost of 160 hours of FFXII time is actually quite high:
If I work at a job making $8/hr, then 160*8 = $1280 (before tax).
That's $1280 dollars I could have been making rather than playing this game!
And at over 200 or more hours:
200*8 = $1600! Holy crap! I could pay rent for three months with much money!

Economists call this the "opportunity cost," or rather, the highest-valued alternative use of resources (time in this case).

But maybe you're just bitter because Canadians hate Americans. :P ;)

Kidding of not, that's probably the dumbest thing I've read in here in a long time.

Just for the record, I don't base my judgment on poeple based on where they are from. And saying that the Canadiens hate the Americans is totally ridiculous. As far as I'm concerned, I have absolutely nothing against Americans as a people. The only thing I hate, and that's probably what most people around the world hate about the US, is your goverment, or if you prefer, your president.

Now, let's leave the Canadian hates Americans out of the discussions. It really makes you look like a total retard filled with ignorant prejudice.

Exceptionally annoying Imperial weapons that you'll fight a bit in the last third of the game.

Ah, a fellow countryman. Welcome to the Shrine!

Incidentally, I admire your willpower. Grinding to Level 88 takes far more time than I could ever be bothered with on FFXII.
