FF XI and FF X-2 were released around the same time I think in Usa. Final Fantasy X-2 is a direct sequel to Final Fantasy X and made by roughly the same team. Main three characters are Yuna, Rikku, and Payne(new girl character). The game is female focused and according to Play magazine: "Turned the high drama of FF X into Go-go girl power" or something. People don't like it because it seems dump and japanese pop-y and girl focused and different or something, I haven't played it.

After this the main FF team worked on various projects in the FF VII compilation project, which is a series of sequels and prequels and sidestories to FF VII.

FF VII: Before Crisis is a cellphone game released only in Japan(so far) in 2004. I dont' knwo when it takes place compared to FF VII.

FF VII: Advent Children is a feature length cg movie released and the story has some flaws and may be boring, and the music may not be as good, but the graphics are great. It's takes place maybe two years after FF VII

FF VII: Dirge of Cerberus is a PS 2 rpg which is "3rd person shooter" rpg which is a year after FF VII: AC I think. The main character is Vincent Valentine. It's about 14 hours long and has many flaws in all aspects of design but I still like the game. It came out last year.

The other main project in the FF VII compilation is FF VII: Crisis Core, a PSP rpg coming out next spring which has the main character Zack and it's a prequel to FF VII. There are other projects in the series also.

The next main FF game is FF XII, which is made by a different team, the team who did: Ogre Battle, Tactics Ogre, FF Tactics, Vagrant Story, FF Tactics Advance, in that order. It's an all around great game and very popular, but the story needs some improvements I believe.

This fall is FF XII: Revenant Wings, a Nintendo DS real time strategy rpg which is a sequel to FF XII but not as long and huge. The story and theme of the game is like a 180 degree turn. Hopefully this sequel may be better than FF X-2 was.

Also, next fall we are hoping to get FF XIII and FF Versus XIII, both for PS 3. Also, there is FF Agito XIII, for cellphones coming out later. These three games are in the FF XIII universe but not directly related, some relations though. FF XIII is by the main FF team. FF V XIII is by the Kingdom Hearts team. FF A XIII I am not sure who makes it.

I did only basic info on the main FF series, for more info, go here...

By the way FF XI is from the same team roughly that made Chrono Trigger, Radical Dreamers, Xenogears, and Chrono Cross I think. After Xenogears or Chrono Cross, some people went to another company and made Xenosaga 1/2/3 and some stayed with Square. I am not sure what the FF XI team has done since, can't remember.

:)

EDIT:
The main team of a game is composed of: Executive Producer, Producer, Director, Scenario Writer, Character Designer, Art Designer, and Composer. :D

I could add something on FFX-2, since I've played it. (I'm not new here, but haven't posted because I suck at it, but here goes)

The game is indeed focused on girl gameplay, but plays almost akin to a tactics ideal with "Chapters". Almost each "chapter" has a challenge that you can do, but is not part of the "meat and bones" storyline, which isn't that great. However, the only way to see the best ending at 100%, you need to do EVERYTHING, including some button mashing at certain points (because it's not obvious that there's something there). There is also the use of switchable classes, but is used a spheres on a grid as "Costumes". Basically, more of an add-on than a full game.

FFVII: Before Crisis takes place before FFVII. Small spoiler here: you play as a Turk.

FFXII seemed too short and somewhat lacking in the story department. However the whole Tactics feel about it was kind of interesting.

I wouldn't get too anxious about a full release of Ff Agito XIII, since I heard they were having some problems with it. Of course, I hear much, and that may not be truly accurate.

I read recently that FF VII: BC is coming to USA, but I can't remember when and if it's for PSP or DS or cellphone, can somebody answer please?

The last shred of news I read on BC heading to the US said it was indeed for U.S. cell phones. However, that was stated in a 2005 article on Gamespot, and that the release was supposed to be 2006. The time of release is still TBA, and I'm not sure if it will make it.

I wish they would make a new final fantasy 3 with updated graphics, new video scenes and orchestra music. Now that would be something to keep up with nightmaresavior ;)

ff3, like the famicon one? remade on the ds?

or ff6? from snes, then ps, then gba?

or...way out in left field, folks...ff legend3? uhmm, for gameboy

what should really be done is a remake of mystic quest. sure, it was a beginner's rpg, but we didn't stop makin' babies in '89, did we? not all gamers can start out with a 100hour ps2 game...

It's the Famicon one...

FF XI and FF X-2 were released around the same time I think in Usa...

How do you figure that, seeing as FFXI came out over a year before FFX-2?

FF XI was released three weeks before FF X-2 in USA. On October 28th 2003, Final Fantasy XI was released for PC in Usa. On November 18th 2003 Final Fantasy X-2 was released for PS 2 in Usa. I was using the Usa release dates.

Also after FF X-2 some members of the main FF team put in some various work into the Kingdom Hearts games, although those games are made by a different team. Also, the Yasumi Matsuno team made: Ogre Battle, Tactics Ogre, Final Fantasy Tactics, Vagrant Story, and Final Fantasy XII. Any other Ivalice/Ogre team was made by a different team or was only partially designed by Yasumi Matsuno workers. Also, in Spring 2008 Final Fantasy Tactics A2 will be released in Usa. I'll make another clarification. There were a lot of the same people who worked on Chrono Trigger, Radical Dreamers, Xenogears, and Chrono Cross. After this the team split. Some went to Monolith Soft and made Xenosaga 1/2/3 and other stuff. Some stayed with Square Enix and made Final Fantasy XI and the four expansion packs for it. Also, I forgot to list one position in a game design team that's very important. It's "Game Design" position, and it's hard to explain but it's a critical position, maybe somebody else can explain what it is for me.

So basically here's what happening recently, right now, and in the near future with the Final Fantasy series in USA...

November 20th 2007, Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings, a sequel to FF XII was released for Nintendo DS. It's shorter, about 45-50 hours with 100% completion(PS 2 FF XII was over 200 hours for 100% completion). Also it's designed by a new team, some people from Square Enix(notably Motomu Toriyama[FF X & FF X-2 & FF XIII director] is directing and writing it) and some people from Think & Feel Inc. It's a real time strategy rpg and the story is a little different. The game is highly praised in general but there are some issues with the controls and battle system. It was the game of the month for DS on IGN for November. Get this game!!!

March-May 2008 will be the release of Final Fantasy Tactics A2 for Nintendo DS. It's a tactical rpg set in Ivalice, by the team mainly from Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. It will be great and I'm getting it the day it comes out!

Fall 2008 in Usa probably is the release of Final Fantasy XIII for PS 3. It's from the main FF team and it's a huge title. The battle system is a little different, it's extremely important for me this game! It's probably the most anticipated rpg of 2008 for Usa people.

Spring 2009 or Fall 2009 will be the release of Final Fantasy Versus XIII. It's an action rpg developed by the Kingdom Hearts team. It's going to be great!

Sometime in 2008 or 2009 will be the release of Final Fantasy Agito XIII. It's a cellphone multiplayer(not massive) online rpg. It's developed by the same team as FF VII: BC, FF VII: CC, and the upcoming Kingdom Hearts: Coded. It looks cool!

These are only the main FF titles, there is some other stuff though, but less "main". So I listed: FF XII: RW, FF T A2, FF XIII, FF V XIII, and FF A XIII. Get them all! :)

Right about the drawn out bit, but I wouldn't be too sure about intelligent...

Yeah. Reporting facts taken from wikipedia and similar websites is hardly a proof of intelligence.

Yeah, don't expect those dates to be even remotely concrete. Nomura said in the recent Famitsu coverage that they hope to make FFXIII demo for people to see what the combat is like out by the end of 2008 (and this is for Japan not NA). Nomura has also said in the past that actual development of FFvXIII is going slow as he wants a more developed version of White Engine to work with so that's even further off than FFXIII, parts of the KH team are working on Dissidia as a result.
