ARGH!
everytime i press "newgame", the opening movie, the one that starts with the sea and waves, and has " i will be here", and more phrases like that.
it load, but like.. when you watch a "youtube" video, and it load slowly. mine
is like...
STOPS FOR 10 second. playing for half a second. stops for 20 seconds. plays for milisecnd... and so on... TT__TT
and it always stops at "for what?"
and never goes on.
i made it to work once. and saved. but i made big mistakes this turn. SO now i want to start a new game and i CAN'T!
the disc looks fine. almost no scratches or anything. and the rest of the game works fine as well.. only the opening movie doesn't.
if i can "skip" it. TELL ME. if i can just fix it. or its common. tell me please

Well unfortunally you can't really do much..... Try cleaning the disk even if it looks clean..Your Playstation lens might need to be clean even...Do you have problem with any other games?

And also is this FF8 legit? or is it burned to a blank CD?

Also you can't skip through the intro... At least ive never been able to.

You should try playing it on another system first to see if it is the game or not.

you have to get a CD lens cleaner disk.... You can prolly get it anyplace like staples walmart bestbuy etc etc.

Other then that idk what to tell you.

If you can, go to a friends house that has a PS1 or PS2 and try the game on theirs to make sure its the game, and not the system (as Rider said)

if you are going to get the lens cleaner disk try to get something like this, http://www99.shopping.com/xPO-Intec-Game-and-DVD-Laser-Lens-Cleaner-PS2

Im not sure if any CD cleaner will work on the PS2. It might but im not totally sure.

Nobody's going to lock anything unless it gets wildly off-topic or something. It's not the custom for topics to be locked just because the conversation is supposedly "done."

I had no idea that there was a PS2 type of lens cleaner. Luckily for me, because I baby my systems, I never have any problems when it comes to reading a disc (unless the disc has some deep scratches). But if the game works fine on another system, then it's obviously not the disc, it's you system. And if cleaning the lens didn't work, then you're most likely better off getting a new system.

in 9 days i might get PS2 :D and tht would prolly help.
but my friend tht gave me the discs, was playing in his PS1, as you say "system", and even tho it was a few years ago (bout 3 xD) it worked fine. and no one touched it untill he gave it to me. and in my system it wouldn't work. =| thts definatly sux ! T_T
umm do you think i better get a PS2 or a better PS1. i think tht untill ill have enouch money i'll get a PS1, and then when i would want a PS2 ill give it back to get a recive of like 70$, 300 nis, and THEN i would prolly be able to buy a PS2. OR should i buy PS3? XXDDDD

well you can try one more thing... It shouldn't hurt. I remember on my old PS1, i used to always have to clean the laser lens manually with a cuetip and some alcohol. and it always worked! You can try that. Just take a cuetip, dip the end into some alcohol and just rub it on the lens. Then try to loan the game... MAKE SURE! JUST PUT IT ON THE LASER LENS! NOT ANYTHING ELSE! Well you can clean your game if you want.. You said nothing on it, but wouldn't hurt ^.^

I would stick with getting a PS2 if you're looking to get a new Playstation system. It will be able to do everything the PS1 can and play PS2 games and DVDs. And online play. And because it's been out for a while, you'll have fun looking in the $9.99USD bargain bins :D!

We'll just have to wait and see. If he doesn't respond, then I'll just assume that it did.

my friend had this problem once. and i said he should go to the video shop and rent out the game he had the problem with. than swap the faulty disc and say to the video guy it doesn't work.

than you get a disc that works plus a free rental.

but they don't do ps1 games anymore i don't think.

Hmmm... I'd recommend checking the disc for scratches. If there are scratches, try those CD scratch removers.

I had his problem with my PS1 copy thousands of times (i got through about 4 copies of the game). --> In the end, i decided just to borrow my friends disc and load it up, then at the first opportunity (i think about 17 mins in) save the game and keep the file (as in dont save over/delete it).

This way you can play the game from scratch whenever you want without even looking at the opening sequence.

Also, all of my scratched copies that dont work on the PS1 work on the PS2 fine.
