I never really paid attention to it in any of my first three playthroughs (!), but DAY-AMN. The music that plays during the final battle is hands-down the greatest score in the game...maybe in ANY ff game.

The royal-sounding "hero" motif in it puts the Lord of the Rings and the Robin Hood musical themes to shame. The chaotic pace of the piece is absolutely perfect. The back-and-forth volley of horns and strings build up to the most mind-blowing musical experience I've ever had. Seriously, I'm urging everyone to go back to their last save point and win the game again, but this time, during the last battle, just put your game on wait mode and leave the battle menu open so you can just sit and listen to the music. Holy shit. *blink*

Heheh, LOTR had a phenomenal soundtrack, I agree. FFVIII had some great moments, too. I know it's late, and I'm babbling, too :) but I still remember walking into the Shumi village hotel and hearing Julia's piano song, and like, freaking out and putting down the controller so the characters' footsteps wouldn't outdo the song. :P

The only reason that you never find ending bosses difficult is because ff jocks are obsessed wih the ultimate side bosses. And by the time we have those complete, any other boss becomes obsolete

I am looking forward to the end boss now.

Final Fantasy VI had the best final battle song, "Dancing Mad"!! I created a music video for this song!! So many great games have ultimate final battle music, it's great.

By the way that last post reminds me of Ruby Weapon and Ultima Weapon from FF VII, those were hard bosses! :)

Yeah, at level 40ish, The Undying could get tough.

Beyond that, though...well. I still wish I would have recorded an unarmed Balthier totally pwning him.

Hitoshi Sakamoto makes great epic battle music. I think it's what he's good at. I've actually never beaten FFXII but I do have the soundtrack. I listened to that track and well, I would have to agree that it is pretty awesome.

I prefer the more free flowing battle system of 12 compared to any other ff title. But seeing as I know nothing about video game music I dont think the music has less of an effect on me if it is bad music, by that I mean that Music has a huge influence on the enjoyment of a game for me but I wouldnt necessarily be able to tell you if this music was good or not. The only music I remember was from ff 7, what a classic game......still my all time favourite for all round enjoyment

I have it! It's great! It's one of the best rpg soundtracks ever. What is the top battle song? I think it's a battle between Trisection and Antipyretic for me but a lot of people like Apoplexy the best. Apoplexy may be the most popular song.

Ogre Battle on Snes(same development team, including composers) has great music.

The same team(mostly) worked on these games...

I didn't like FF12's soundtrack much at all. The only song I kept to listen to outside of the game was the original battle theme, which is pretty good. I can't even remember what the final battle theme was, so that's probably a bad sign.

If you want some truly remarkable sound tracks, check out FF8's, FF10's, and ChronoCross's soundtracks. I've got about 50 different songs from those three that are true works of art.
