I just got FFXII, I was surprised from the get go, Nice battle system like an off-line mmo, A couple of things I don't get, is it by the grace of luck that you get a multiple hit, or is there a sort of trick to it? and is there like one type of monster, in each are that is not to be fucked with? I hit a dinosaur and he fucked me up I mean 1 hit equals like 3x my hp. The only con I've found so far is, you have to buy magic, and running is much harder. Any hints and tips, would be greatly appreciated.

The dinosaur s not to be fucked with indeed. That dinosaur is there for no other reason than to scare noobs. By the time you can beat it, its not worth it for the ammount of experience and lp.

As for multiple hits, theres a certain element of luck in it.
But for the most part it comes down to the multiple hit rate of each weapon.
The rate of each weapon doesnt really increase all that much until you get to the ultimate weapons, and then the masamune s the outright winner with a 40% chance of a multiple.

The Wild Saurian thing is pretty good for EXP, I think. I always will kill it if I just happen to pass by that area.

Its good for experience maybe but by that stage one wild saurian is nowhere near profitable for levellng up

Oh yeah, I know. Not worth going two screens away or anything, but I like when I fight dinosaurs, IT IS FUN.

Haha, I reckon I would lose. I am at the big lighthouse place and all my characters are around level 60, but I have sort of fallen out of the habit of playing it. It's a pity since it is such an enjoyable game, but I'm sure I'll get around to completing it soon enough.

the lighthouse is the most unenjoyable part of the entire game, once you get past the lighthouse it becomes enjoyable again. You should give another crack

Daggers, katana, ninja swords and poles all combo regularly. The others don't combo much (and ranged weapons don't combo at all). If you have the Genji Gloves accessory equipped, combos become much more common.

The MMO comparisons are fair, and one of the MMO quirks FFXII has is that if you go "exploring" and enter an area you're really not supposed to be in, chances are good you'll get totally wtfpwned. Gauntlets or Libra allow you to determine the precise strength of an enemy, but there's still a way to gauge without them. When you target an enemy (passive or hostile), the name like "Cockatrice A" will appear in white if it's close to your level. If it's in yellow, it's stronger than one of your individual characters but you still may be able to bring it down with a full party and/or clever tactics. If the name is in red, like that wild saurian? Leave it the hell alone. Note that some enemies are immune to Libra.

hopefully you should have no trouble with the game, just make sure you read a walkthrough for the zodiac spear.......its really easy to get as long as you follow the really easy steps for it

I'm getting every item on my first play-through I'm getting the spear after that.

Ok so far I'm in jail, trying to break out, but I also have a beast I'm hunting is esterland after I get out of jail will I be able to get back to rabanastre?

samonasuke

yeah you get out of jail, dont worry, there is no way to mess up your game, there is only two things that are irreversible, 1. the zodiac spear.
2. a sidequest which you have to start before you get to archades.. the side quest starts at the entrance to mosphoran highway from nalbina.. but its much later on in the game so dont worry

The Zodiac Spear is qu33r, i didn't know about it until after I'd opened the forbidden chests ;(

The spear is handy, the way you have to get it is what is qu33r.

MossY

haha, yes. I think it was a pretty unfair thing for Square to have included though, because without a walkthrough of some description, the chests that you mustn't open are unknowable. Pretty weak =(

I agree completely.

Pretty weak allrigt, i would have preferred that the best weapon had to be worked for rather than gained by not opening a few random chests. If you have it though it is well worth it

is that the only uber weapon

No, there are plenty more. Zodiac Spear has the highest attack power but the Tournesol, Excalibur, Masamune, Wyrmhero Blade and Yagyu Darkblade all have abilities that make them just as, if not more, useful.

There's another way to get the spear. It also appears as a random treasure in the Henne Mines but it has something like a 1% chance of spawning every time you reload the area. o.O

Not worth it.

I doubt the authenticity of that claim, you could theoretically get 6 of them if you opened the chest 600 times if it were true.

Neg

There's a guy who posts videos to YouTube who has 7 of 'em. Supposedly. That's third-hand info, I got it from somebody in the subforums.

What's that? I'm in the subforums right now? Shocking o_O

I doubt the authenticity of that claim, you could theoretically get 6 of them if you opened the chest 600 times if it were true.

Correction: I looked it up, and the chest itself has a 10% chance of spawning and a 10% chance of containing an item. Even then, and with a Diamond Armlet equipped, there's a 10% chance of that item being the Zodiac Spear. So your odds are actually 1/1000, not 1/100.

But yeah, there's nothing stopping you from getting six Zodiac Spears. Other than having a life with shit to do, that is.

I agree with mossy, sorry fatalis but there is absolutely no authenticity in that claim, there is only one way to get the zodiac spear, necrohol of nabudis...

Unless you can show the link to physical proof of this I wont believe you

The Official Strategy Guide says that the Zodiac Spear can be found in the Henne Mines Phase 2 Dig. The guide can be found at your local bookstore. Walkthroughs on Gamefaqs (http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/game/459841.html) say the same thing, adding calculations apparently lifted from the Ultimania Omega Guide. Whether you believe them or not is your problem. I haven't actually tested it for myself, but I'm inclined to believe that an ultra-rare treasure is far more likely than a vast conspiracy of deliberate deception.

Has anyone ever got the zodiac spear from the henne mines???

I will attempt to do so since I can't get it the normal way, AND I WILL REPORT BACK. It'll be a while though, doing other bits and pieces before I go to the Bahamut first.
