So the PlayStation store was updated today with a PS3/PSP game of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. I haven't played this game in YEARS and I've always loved it. Now I'm in a Castlevania mood and I'm going to have to download the ROMS to emulate it up on my PC. So what I want to know is: What's your favorite Castlevania? Mine is Super Castlevania IV.
Dear Lindsay Lohan that game was so epic when I played it on the Super Nintendo. I don't have that game anymore which saddens me, but we have a game shop a block from me called BRE Software that does buys/sells games and they have a plethora of old Nintendo games. Now I need to see if they have it.
I want to talk about Castlevania.

Discuss.

I remember reading the novelization of Simon's Quest by F.X. Nine. I refuse to read it now, because I'm convinced it would be utter crap and ruin my perfect memory. I also remember, obsessively pouring over Oriental Trading catalogues for stuff to complete my perfect Simon Halloween costume. I could always find a ring, a nail, a heart, and an eye. But, I could never find a ribcage suitable to be a shield. You know those large plastic skeletons you can hang up around your house? With the filled in ribcage? That would have been perfect, but I've yet to find one in person. I could do eBay, but that feels like cheating.

So, I have two Halloween dreams to actualize before I die. Simon Belmont and John Constantine. All I need for Constantine is inkjet temporary tattoo paper. Just need to get around to ordering that.

I'm tempted to go with Super Castlevania IV for it's old-school glory, but I like a little Metroid in my vampire slaying, so SOTN.

There's only a few games I liked in the series.

SOTN (PSX) <<< numba won for meee!
L.O.I. (PS2)
Rondo of Blood (PC Engine)
CVIII (NES)
Super CVIV (SNES)
COTM (GBA)

That's it.

IV was so great to me because I was like ZOMG! when they included mode 7. The music and game play was great too.

Everything between II and SotN seemed really unimpressive to me. After SotN it was like, okay I don't need anymore Castlevania games. <--referring to how great SotN is, not how bad.

I agree with you on that. But I must admit that I was impressed by L.O.I., being that at the time of it's release I was still a little nauseated from playing the N64 Castlevania games, and never thought I'd ever see a decent 3D Castlevania game.

Resurrection (Dreamcast) had some potential. The unofficial soundtrack kicks so much ass.

I'm a Fan of Castlevania sagas!

I love S.O.T.N, Curse of Darkness is very good too.
The GBA series are great, the SOTN gameplay for me is the best.
Rondo of Blood for PC Engine CD is a must have for Castlevania lovers.
Lament of Innocence for me is as good as Curse of Darkness.
I love the Castlevania series, from the Vampire Killer to Portrait of Ruin haha.

Castlevania Rules!!!

PD: The conversion of Rondo of Blood to PSP looks awesome!!!

Simon's Quest was my first game. I was a kid when I played it, and I remember running around with my belt, walking with an odd gait, whipping at things trying to get hearts from them.

My favorite is still Symphony of the Night.

The 3D ones have a lot of potential if Konami would give them over to the right team. The music never fails, but it's not matched in quality by the rest of the game.
