James Hannigan's Harry Potter V game score is many times better than Nicholas Hooper's Harry Potter V movie score. ^^ The Main Title and Owl Chase tracks alone is worth the download. Beautiful Harry Potter-like tunes similiar to John Williams' and a bigger ochestra = winner. Many thanks.

I totally agree with Sharon - Nicholas Hooper's score for the film is a major disappointment of non-themes, droning chords, stupid electronics, the occasional quotation of Hedwig's Theme, a few nods to Doyle's Goblet of Fire score, and not much else... On the other hand, here comes James Hannigan's score for the game - a massive, grand, truly exhuberant orchestral score that really isn't afraid of coming to the forefront... Melody, check. Granduer, check. Williamsesque (but not plagiaristic) qualities, check. Proper use of large symphony orchestra, check. Lovely!

This really needs a CD release.

I just downloaded out of curiosity since someone on another forum said they like how James Hannigan's music sounds... This soundtrack is AMAZING. XD Thank you so much! I know they won't, but if they ever released this on CD, I'd snatch it up immediately.

Yeah, what a wonderful music ! The Love Theme is great, action music amazing, far away from Hooper tasteless chords progression. Hannigan made a great job using Hedwig's Theme as a whole, and not only the first segment, as Doyle and Hooper : I've never thought I'd hear again the "Flying and Tricks" motif of this theme again in the Potter Universe !
I hope Hannigan will do the last 2 games ! And having never had a chance to listen to more than 10 minutes or so of the music of Jeremy Soule from the other games, I just can't wait to find them anywhere to make the comparison !

Soule's preceeding scores are absolutely OUTSTANDING. I wish somebody would reupload them... (All the links in the Soule thread are dead.)

I learned yesterday that the score is scheduled for release on iTunes in due course. I'm really looking forward to this CD! All tracks have been polished up to make a nice CD, so judging from the releases of the previos game scores (by Soule) on iTunes this will certainly be THE release of the year.

the official release has one problem: they are not allowed to use john williams hedwig theme.they can do it in the game but not on cd/itunes.thats a big obstackle since hedwigs theme is a major part of the score as you will hear.Enjoy!

I think it is not terrible.....you can get Williams Cues on the Official Movie Soundtracks......

That's very bad... Where does this information come from? Are there any further details. Is the source reliable?

I don't think the poster who said it didn't manner quite understands what this implies. Hannigan's score quotes, weaves, develops, and incorporates Williams ' themes throughout its runtime. The Main Title contains the most straightforward rendition of Hedwig's Theme, then it runs off into Hannigan, then it comes back to Hedwig. Even when you're not hearing it in such a straightforward manner, it's in there somewhere - in the bassline, in the counterpoint, in the chord progressions...

How strict are they going to be? If they forbid every cue that alludes to Williams' themes, there will be about 90 seconds of music on this CD and there will be awkward edits every ten seconds.

The more I listen to it, the more I love it. I truly hope there will be a CD release for it ; I've made my own CD-like version, but there's still some irritating loops. And it would be good to have complete release of Jeremy Soule's scores, instead of these awkward Itunes albums of 20 minutes only or so. But even these would be good, they're not avaible on the French Itunes Store... and I can't find them elsewhere on the Net.
