It's okay for a spinoff of Final Fantasy VII. I like Vincent's personality in the game, and the backgrounds behind Vincent and Lucretia are interesting.

For me, I particularly like this game. It has a good gameplay engine, and the music isn't too shabby either. Also, the graphics are pretty good. The downside is: The story is WAAAAY too confusing, even for a Final Fantasy game.

Excellent music and graphics. A lot of cut scenes, but don't quite remember the story; it was probably heavy, though.

Gameplay was basic run and gun; aiming was entirely manual, which in my case, is total shit (Of course, if I was maneuvering around a REAL firearm, instead of some suckign joystick, it'd be a different story).

Resources were scarce if not hard to come by at times, and it's going to be one damn long boss fight when the only thing you have left to shoot at the chopper with is your handgun. And then you're dead when you're out of ammo.

What I always liked about the Contra series: infinite ammo.

Here's a rebuttal from someone that hates this game.

Graphics: Decent at best. The CG graphics were beautiful, but in-game was
mediocre.

Gameplay: Awkward control scheme, and over sensitive. Cutscenes during gameplay were frustrating and overwhelming at times.

Story: There were times that events seemed to linger on almost losing my interest. It answered SOME questions left from FFVII. It had it's own unique twists, but nothing elaborate. It was fairly simple to guess what happened next.

The game feels cheap in my opinion. It could have been better had it been thought out more throughly. The potential was there, but it just fell short of what I had come to expect from Square. They're really milking VII for everything it's worth, and it's eventually going to get TOO much attention that people are going to ignore it. In fact they're already losing the interest of a rather large fanbase.

I agree with JoSephiroth in regards to this game. I finished the game and felt disappointed with it. The story was a different version to the one in the actual FFVII game, that can be expected though because the development team which made DoC had nothing at all to do with FFVII.

Squareenix should focus on making new titles, instead of trying to relive and revive it's glory days.

Its ok. Nice enough music. Dont like how they didnt touch any music from the original game. A piano arrnagement of vincenets theme would have been worth ten of the melody less string pieces. And Hamauzu went out of his way to use tokyo philharmonic orchestra even when it some tracks suffered from it. Still lots of great tracks from a great composer.

The gameplays actually fun enough as you've so much control but amateur in alot of ways. Almost no interaction with the surroundings.

Some of the characters were awful. They could have done great things with Lucretia. In this shes a moron. A whiny moron. Yuffies no longer got any of that humourous asshole teenage attitude. Now shes a fucking care bear out to save the world with a smile. Shelke is Rei Ayanami, with about as much attitude as she's capable of mustering. Awful. I suppose vincent could have been much more emo. Im thankful he wasn't. I suppose they couldve done the same thing to mr.T, Cloud and Tifa. Im thankful they hadn't more screen time.

Graphics were decent enough in gameplay and the games long enough. Worth the play. Wasn't a chore to play through to the end. Thumbs up.

It was halfway decent, but it had the worst camera angles ever. Also, way too many cut scenes. If you walk through a random door, you'd get a pointless cut scene. However, Vincent is my favourite playable FF character. Well, almost. Balthier from FF12 comes at the very top.

1) Invisible walls. They're not in the cut scenes, so WHY are they in the LEVELS!?

2) DoC made Lucretcia out to be an idiotic, shameless hussy.

In FF7, we thought of Lucretcia as this poor, broken soul that endured a lot. That she turned down Vincent for what she thought was a righteous cause.
When in reality, Lucretia's all like "Vincent, I can't reciprocate your feelings because I knew your father."
While Vincent's like "WTF, woman? Kiss me."
"No!" As she dramatically throws herself into Hojo's arms and Vincent goes all emo.

On that note, Doc made (young) Vincent to look like a spineless dolt at the same time. Kind of disappointing. Actually, a lot disappointing.

And yes I agree with the fact that I`m stupid, but being stupid only makes me feel better because I don`t know what the hell am I doing...

To tell you the truth most of you say that this game suck only because you have too many ambitions in your head, or because you just want to agree with someone`s negative opinion...

Anyway I`ll say it again, everything was fine with it.

P.S. Stevo, they really did something with Lucrecia`s character, but it had to be like that, cause if you don`t see deeper she actually was suffering and most of her moves back then were made because of nerves and pressure.

Yes. I mean, it's so very wrong to wish for better games, right? We should all sit back and watch mediocrity and lack of inovation carry us into the land of fucking fantasy that currently overrides any sensible thought you might have, Fantaji. Let's all be like you!

or because you just want to agree with someone`s negative opinion...

Yes, because if they say the game is bad, they're always jumping the bandwagon and that could not have genuinely been their honest opinion, but if they happen to like the game, there's no bandwagon whatsoever, right?

Anyway I`ll say it again, everything was fine with it.

I like it but it could have been better. My ideas for a Dirge of Cerberus Final Mix

*Improved Controls

*Inclusion of the Events from Lost Episode

*Altering the later missions so that Vincent actually has to fight his way right to the top of the Shinra Tower to find the entrance to Deepgroud
*Once at the top , you have to fight Argento the Silver from Online mode

*The Entrance to Deepground is an elevator shaft. Since the lift is out of action, Vincent has to: use a long series of ladders (a la FFVIII)/Free fall.

*Argento is fought again as you fall (a timed boss fight) and once defeated, Vincent uses her body to cushon the impact.

*Azul acctually gets nailed to the central piller when vincent impails him with the cannon.

*The additional storyline from Online Mode is Modified for Single player and included as a reward for beating Extra Hard Mode

I think games would be more exciting if fans (well, the intelligent ones) could have a final say before a game is released.

THIS GAME WAS NOWHERE AS DISAPPOINTING AS "TRANSFORMERS: THE GAME".

DoC is a Good game - better than average. Not Excellent of Very Good. but quite good. Ive played games that were nowhere near as good as DoC

Argento's a Lady. Since these ideas will never make it into a Directors Cut version of the game, I will include them in a novellisation.
I'd actually have her be either Rosso's sister or lover. Hey - calm with crazy. Id also give her a bigger role in the main storyline.

*I'd have her appear alongside Rosso in the cutscenes - quite apart from the odd comment.

*You fight her in the section from Lost Chapter. She's as calm as you like - think a female version of Vincent or Squall. She pulls a tactical retreat before you beat her.

*When you fight her after Rosso dies, she's completly beserk.
----
A seperate improvment idea

*Robin Atkin Downes would voice Genesis with the same Accent that he used as Byron in Babylon 5, instead of the Antonio Banderas accent that he uses in the game

{I'm going to start a new thread about this}

anyone who enjoys playing games should observe a game before playing it. games are for fuckin' enjoyment-you're supposed to have fun with them. just like a book, (if anyone still reads) you decide if you like the game in the first 10 minutes. if you dont like it then, you wont like the rest of the game.

I'm sort of stuck in the middle in this game, I liked the Graphics, story, and the music. But what in the heck was Enix thinking trying to make a shooter game, especially for FF? The game isn't too bad. I got it for Christmas, but I wouldn't say it's not a waste of money. It's just like a Final Fantasy version of Devil May Cry.

I would say it's worth at least giving it a shot so if you can rent it, I would rent it first. I've only played and finished it once, but I doubt I'll be replaying it again anytime soon since I've got so many other games I gotta finish up.

I like the game, but you know, in some parts it just too difficult! It must be my friendly and upbeat nature

Yeah, it was kind of a mistake to put FF in the title. If it was just called Dirge Of Cerberus maybe people would like it more.

Can't say anything other than that I liked it..

I would probably hate it if I hadn't played FFVII from before, but i guess that's just the regular fanboy I am.

Too bad the gameplay wasn't much to brag about.. Or let's be honest with ourselves, it sucked! The AI simply pissed me off sometimes, and I can't recall a more slow start to a game than this, always interrupted in the middle of the "action" by some dumb and unessecary cutscene, and this happen almost all through the game, the poor gameplay didn't help either.

But as "Lionheart730" said, I too, have a strange attraction to this game, but it's not beyond the point of liking it, that's where it stopped.

The music itself was great! But I can't say it was very true to the old FFVII. Sure the new composer is good, but nothing beats good 'ol Uematsu! If it was up to me, I'd go for full frontal nostalgia with MIDI's all over again! :naughty:

I did enjoy the graphics alot though, and the FMV's made me drewl all over the contoller!

Inspired to pick FFVII back up for yet another playthrough.

I wouldnt say, ts the baddest game on the world, but the Gameplay isnt really good. Its just a shame, cause I expect a little more...

I have to say, yes. This game dissapointed me. Luckily I did not buy it, but borrowed it from a friend. The game play wasn't any good, I felt like they spent more time on Vincent's cloak then the game play itself. As well, characters and plot are very important to me, I have to care about them to actually care about the game in general. Did I ever end up caring about ANY of those characters? Sure, two seconds, pang of pity for Rufus at the very beginning, but otherwise, I couldn't care less.

Plus forty million points of fail to the WRO for raping the Shin-Ra logo hard core.

Well, i`m not dissapointed or something but the Gameplay really sucks!
That was not the FF Gameplay i know and it boreds me -.-
But the Story was really great, Vincent is one of my favourite Characters of FF and it makes me happy, that this great Guy becames a own Story;)
But the other things are really...hm...bad^^'

I really enjoyed the game, for the precise reasons that alot of people hated it; the gameplay was a significant departure from the original FFVII, and for the simple fact that Vincent Valentine (the coolest FF character ever, IMO) was the main focus. That being said, I will admit that the storyline was uber-confusing even for die-hard FF fans. The custom guns was an interesting concept, but I don't really think it was pulled off all that well, and the controls were twitchy. Add to the fact that they included Cait Sith, possibly the most annoying character ever in FF and FORCED you to play (and die, several times) as the robo-cat in pointless stealth missions... Feh. But overall, despite some handicaps, it is a good game with high replay value.

I just wish Uematsu would return for the FFVII Compilation. The new style just doesn't fit the game's atmosphere...

It was interesting to find out more about Vincents past...but all I can say really is 'meh'. My ex housemate nicked my copy, and I probably won't ever replace it...especially since it seems to be about 70% cut scene.

I know what you mean: I'd walk into an area, only to watch a seemingly random cutscene. I liked the game, sure, but there wasn't enough action for an action game.

lol I remember I was sat with my missus and aforementioned kleptomaniac house mate, and I remarked "I reckon I'll enter this area, blast a dozen enemies, and have a cut scene".

Lo and behold, after counting exactly 12 blasted enemies....there was a sodding cut scene.

The game play wasn't too bad really, not brilliant...but there's worse out there.

I expect plenty of cutscenes from FF games, but there is also having waaay to many. I like to actually have a bit of gameplay between cut scenes, not a cut scene followed by 2 minutes of game play then another 30 minutes of cut scene.

Sometimes, its a little annoying, but, what do u expect?

The obvious answer is "A little more game play between cut scenes", but I'm going to go with:

"A pony".

:-P

In all seriousness though, the whole "Hi Im an FF game and I have about 3 days worth of cut scene" thing only really works in FF-games. DoC has faster-paced gameplay than 'standard' FF games really, and I think that short bursts of play between long FMVs doesn't really suit the style of the game.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the game...but something felt wrong.

I'm fairly indifferent to the game: while the story was interesting and deep, and the graphics were great, it had some obvious flaws. Contrary to others' beliefs, I personally didn't find the gameplay too bad, but that could be down to the fact I almost never play shooters.
