Well, the game took me 21 hours to beat the first time and there was just no way I am going to do that again any time soon (Overlord!) but I did sit down and play through a bit of it today and nabbed some important tunes all along the way.

Better than Jak 2? I thought so. Better than Ratchet? Yep. No idea why this masterpiece isn't raved about. The soundtrack speaks for the game; genius. 41 minutes of bliss right here.

Nice. Thank you for this, the game has some excellent music.

But. It's only in 128kbps. Why? And it's in this weird file format my mp3 player probably can't recognize (and considering the poor bitrate, re-sampling the music to mp3 files is not an option). And it's a pity the title screen music is missing :(

Gunvalkyrie4Life

I believe you can convert these to MP3 with a simple mouse click. Maybe someone can help this person out; I think the sound quality is good.

128 may sound good, but that is only because you don't have a 192 or 320 version of it to compare to. I suppose 128 can be ok for this music, but music with lots of strings or voices, like orchestral music, tend to sound terrible if it's sampled to this bitrate. Listen to Godspeed from the Time Machine, or Chevaliers de Sangreal from the Da Vinci Code in 128 and compare it to 320 - you'll hear the difference.

Your lucky I took 4 hours out of my day to GET THIS!

Hey! I'm not saying I'm not grateful! I was just explaining differences in bitrate. A few years ago I didn't know what bitrate was, and today I curse my ignorance, as I have on my computer a number of incredibly good songs that are incredibly hard to come by and they are incredibly bad quality because I resampled them over and over again without realising they lost in sound quality.

4 hours to record all this? That's quick. I've been working with a cttr rip now for like two weeks.

I know what a pain it is to record via line-in, and that is exactly why I am very careful with the results; I don't want to waste such hard work by converting it to low quality.

Again: THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS RIP. Sheesh, I'm only trying to help.

I take a cd burner via line in from the Xbox, take that CD-RW out after completion and put it in my iTunes. I then copy those files into a folder and then ".rar" them. Not sure what you mean by "converting them to low quailty" these are exactly how they sound on the cd-burner which to me is fine.

If there's a better way I'd like to know it or is the cd-burner "analog" part of it only going to sound "so good"?

I take a cd burner via line in from the Xbox, take that CD-RW out after completion and put it in my iTunes.

Sorry. I don't really get 'take a cd burner via line in'. English isn't my native language unfortunately so explain as if you were talking to a five year old... Anyway I suppose you're meaning that you're burning an audio cd with the sounds from when you're playing the game. This would be sort of an analog recording, because one minute of music takes one minute to rip.

I then copy those files into a folder and then ".rar" them. Not sure what you mean by "converting them to low quailty" these are exactly how they sound on the cd-burner which to me is fine.

If you're using iTunes or some other audio cd ripping app there should be an option which lets you choose what mp3 quality you want to sample the tracks in. Most apps have 128 as standard, probably because the people who program these apps are either deaf or listen only to trash metal. :D Remember if you're burning an actual audio cd that can be played in a cd player the sound on the cd is in the .wav format, that is, lossless. Mp3 is lossy.

If there's a better way I'd like to know it or is the cd-burner "analog" part of it only going to sound "so good"?

I'm sorry but I don't quite get this part either. But whatever app you use to convert the audio to mp3, make sure it is using all the 'high quality' options found in the preferences menu. The app I use label all the high quality choices as 'SLOW' or 'MAKES BIG FILES' - ignore such comments.

In any case I never meant to insult anyone here, I'm sorry if I ever did. :(

"This would be sort of an analog recording, because one minute of music takes one minute to rip."

That's it. So, since it is "analog" maybe we should just look at it as "what I put up here is better than nothing at all" and leave it at that. :)

I just right click and "copy" the file straight from iTunes. I see no way of improving it and considering how these are recorded I think they sound "good enough".

To theblad : You can keep the album in the original format, and convert it to mp3 for your portable player, just one conversion will not kill the quality, it will just degrade it to an acceptable quality. That is what I'm doing with my albums in GYM, AAC, MPC, NSF, WMA, ...

Good evening everybody.

Now I've come across this thread several times in my elusive search for a "true" Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy OST and I tell you now it warms my heart to know that so many others out there enjoyed the game, its brilliance and its musical scores. Truly, was there a better game that involved action/adventure along with tough puzzle challenges that fit an Egyptian theme so well? In my eyes the answer would be no, it was my first PS2 game I ever owned and I'm sure many of you will agree, it was ahead of its time in terms of graphics and fluent animation.

Anyway I digress, studying Games Development tends to make you over evaluate things making them sound either really bad or really good.

What I'm here to say is I think its time we put a stop to this whole OST non-existence thing once and for all. I myself am exploring my own copy of the games file to find and extract the music, I am downloading several differently stored versions of it to try and find them there and if all else fails I'll record in the highest quality I can manage.

Although I am also perfectly open for a collaborative effort, for any of you who have .mp3's, .wav's to share that aren't on the Eurocom page them please list which ones you have and e-mail me said list or even email me the audio files themselves. I plan to Rar them all into a proper Original Sound Track and upload them to every online storage site I can think of and keep an original copy here just in case it needs a re-upload...but I'm sure considering how many seem to want this, that you will all have a copy to re-upload as well by the end of it.

So, what to you think ladies and gentlemen? Will you help me finally make a proper OST? All people who take part will be credited of course. :)

hey wave drakon, I'd so love to help with the making of the sphinx ost, but I dont really know what I can do. The only mp3 files of this game that I have are the ones already posted in this thread. I'm still lookking everywhere for any of the missing tracks but Ive had no luck so far, and I cant do a proper gamerip due to the lack of equipmment needed for such a transfer. Its sad really. I have to agree with you there my friend. The fact that a sequel will never be made saddens me greatly, I mean seriously..what a huge opening for the next game, so why not make a sequel. And even if you can't help I thank you for your enthusiasm exhibitz. :D

Do I really have to be Captain Obvious here?

The game,as great as it was, obviously didn't sell well enough to warrant a sequel.

exhibitz
11-16-2009, 02:58 AM
I guess NucleaRaptor is right. I mean, even though I love the game and all, when i first found out about it.......it was kinda by accident really. I guess the proper reason why this game will never get a sequel is because not enough people heard about it in it's initial release and therefore its sales weren't as great as the maker's hoped. So why make a sequel to a game that wasn't really popular is probably what theyre thinking. Anyways, once again, looking forward to the completed ost. Really cant wait. lol

Wave Drakon
11-23-2009, 04:09 AM
He didn't need to be Captain Obvious, I understood from the get go. I was merely pointing out how much of a shame it was, naturally everything is corporate these days, if it makes money then good and if not then scrap it or rethink.

Anyway wanted to post a quick update to the OST creation. I have the audio recording software ready and set up, once I get my copy of the game back from my college (I lent it to them as an example of "Ideal Gaming for Specific Genres") I will begin recording immediately. Every time the game changes its music to something different I will record a good 2~3 minutes of it. Please keep in mind this will require me to play the entire game from beginning to end. So give it time.

Thanks guys,
W.Drakon out.

Best of luck, mate. I know from first-hand experience how time-consuming rips are. Wish I could contribute, but I had to reinstall Windows a few weeks back, and I've never quite managed to get some of the programs to work correctly since then, one of them being my TV tuner recorder. Goddamn,I'm starting to really hate VAIO.

Wave Drakon
11-24-2009, 02:04 AM
No worries man I just wanted to offer everybody the chance to get in on the credit mentioning. And I hear you on the computer thing, my younger half brother managed to turn off the latop during an important update when it specifically tells you not to and made it so that whenever you start up one of the drivers fails thus breaking the chain and making the loading impossible even in Safe Mode. He did this TWICE within a week, I had to restore the laptop back to its factory settings therefore losing everything since I couldn't back up..I'm still just recovering everything that used to be on it.

I have no doubt you will be better on the technical stuff than I am. I plan to use an audio crossover cable for my recording you know from TV headphone to laptop Microphone jack which is all well and fine. But I realise only now that during some music in the game noises can't help but be made..for example the electric mummy making the small "Oo! Ah!" sounds. Is there a way to bypass that or mute everything but the music in the game? I can't remember the option screen in-game either so I don't know if you can choose that option through the game.

Any suggestions?

NucleaRaptor
11-24-2009, 05:05 AM
If you're recording live like I used to,and there's no sound test or and in-game option to tone down the sounds effects and voices, there's really not much you can do. Just keep your ears open and hope that the track you're trying to rip is used somewhere else in the game, hopefully in a calmer situation where you can just stand still and record it.

Oh, dude, no problem at all. Yeah I love that song too. I got it when the link was still up and running lol And yeah, I actually know all the songs that your missing, in case you did want to fetch them for me. If its no to much trouble, that is. ^_^ Heres the list and where they play in the game:

Electric mummy themes: pretty self explanatory where to get these ones.

The various themes that play when you are playing the various minigames in abydos city: examples include the dart shooting game, the target shooting game, the crocodile headed guy's challenge, etc.

The Uruk Islands theme: the place you go to right before fighting the geb queen

Theme outside the mayor of abydos's palace: the place where you have to rescue the guy who is stuck outside with the monsters

Paper thin mummy themes: same as top

The various dungeon themes

Uruk castle themes: plays when you are in the prison cell with the mummy and another one plays right when you enter the first mummy level. (the big room with the dome that shoots you across)

The Heliopolis palace theme. (just walk into it when you first get to heliopolis. easy enough)

The beduin outpost them: its on the other side of the desert but once you get there the song plays right away.

And the hardest one to get, due to the fact that it only plays when your in the third mummy level is the one where your hanging on to the moving levers that go from room to room. You'll know exactly what im talking about when it plays. lol idk if you could get that one....damn thatd be amazing

And thats about all of them. if im forgetting one or two, then i'll be sure to post them up soon. Thanks again friend.

Hello gentlemen, for starters I have not created the soundtrack yet, I hope I didn't get your hopes up. Naturally the sound connection from my tv to my PC was well..bad, too loud and too crackly. So my alternative method is in about four months when I get a desktop rather than a laptop for the move to University - a nice powerful desktop at that. I plan to record using a Playstation 2 Emulator.

If it is compiled before then by another then fair enough but if not, it will be one of the first things I do.
