I noticed there isn't any books or even manga books. I think it would be great for something like that to be released. What does everyone think?

Probably not a great idea.

It's been pretty well proven that Final Fantasy does not work as anything other than video games. Look at the two anime series that have been made. Both of them were mediocre at best. Then there's the two movies. One of them was a decent film that was too far removed from the games for fans to like it and the other tried to be closer to one of the games and wound up being pure trash.

Best to leave it as a game series.

What about Final Fantasy Unlimited? Isn't that an anime movie?

Not that I've any clue as to how good it is, or not as the case might be. Just occurred to me that I saw it in HMV the other day on dvd.

Spirits - I don't care what anyone says, I'm an FF fan, and I did see the elements of FF in that film.
Advent - It was okay. I liked spirits better though. I thought the premise was good, but you can tell that they tried too hard to milk FF7. I think maybe it would've worked better if they kept the original "manga" look of the characters, it would've made more sense if you think about it.

A Manga could work. They just need to do acouple of things to make it right:
1 - Keep the elements of FF.
2 - Stay away from adding to, or retelling FF series storylines.
3 - Keep it simple (half for FF fans/half for Manga fans), meaning: not overly complicated/involved, and not overly simplified

Well, I believe any manga can be an FF manga. Just slap the Final Fantasy name and some FF terms into the story and you got yourself an FF Manga! This is because the worlds and characters always change.

Hell, give me some time and I'll make up a manga about garbage disposal, use FF terms, and slap the FF name on it.

No, not really.

So if I were to get a Hellsing manga, and change Alucard's name to Vincent Valentine, and the Vampires to SOLDIERs, it'd be a FF manga, recounting the events that led to FF7?

Sure, why not. An alternate FFVII universe. Not bad.

LOL!

I could see it now, Blade of the Immortal is now Cloud and Tifa's adventures!

Last Fantasy is currently being published which makes fun of RPG stuff, including the fighter being an idiot (like 8-bit theatre) and is very funny. Thats probably about as close as you'll get to a FF manga, since most of the stuff that Last Fantasy is making fun of is prevalent in FF games.

I don't think there should be. I wouldn't buy it anyway... I think Final Fantasy is just going downhill.

What if the writers of one of the FF were to team up with Yoshitaka Amano to do a comic out of one of the titles?

Like... a comic that covers the whole story of FFVI...

Sorry, but one can always still dream, right?

PS: For those who don't know already, Amano is one of the rare contemporary Artists that I adore, side by side with Alex Ross.

Well, I agree with Vas that if they want to do a good FF manga, they will need to tell a new original story with all the FF elements and not do a spin off or retelling of a previous FF story. Then again, a story that told the events of the "War of the Magi" from FF6 might be interesting. Also keep in mind that they did do a KH manga so it isn't impossible that they will do a FF manga as well.

Yeah,I see what you mean.Supposedly Akira Amano, the guy who drew them, has done other video game based mangas before,so it's not like it may never happen.

Actually, GanGan (Square-Enix's comics magazine that runs over in Japan) is currently running a manga version of FFXII.

I have to agree with you there Ive seen the hole series and enjoyed it. Its not really amazingly Final Fantasyesqe, but as a stand alone anime its pretty good.
If you ignored the fact that it has FF in the title, changed some of the music, called chobi a giant chicken, renamed all the summons that Kaze calls with the Magun then you'd probably have an anime that people would take more seriously.

Cool, Ill have a search for that

And that too

P.S. What is the name of the second mediocre FF anime, and Id have to disagree that FFAC was "pure trash". I enjoyed it, though I will agree they are milking FF7 for all its worth. IF it makes money though, they aint gonna stop.
I can hardly remember FF: Spirits Within though, so I cant really comment on that. If I remember though it was a pretty good film, though completely, in my opinion, unrelated to any form of pseudo FF universe.

I would love to see a Final Fantasy manga, though with the complexity of the majority of the storylines they'd most likely have to do something completely new.

I'd consider buying an artbook if it were available, though.

Your disagreement does not make it untrue.

You seriously need to pick up a book if you think the plots in Final Fantasy games are complex.

An anime of FF wouldnt hurt, but it must be done in a way to captivate the fans and other non FF gamers, who just like anime.
I liked both FF movies and they definetly didnt suck to me, thats just the majoritys opinion.

1. Does for me
2. I do also read by the way, i am just saying for a video game the stories more complex than say mario (mario is still a good game, or at least fun anyway:-D)

It's best to leave it alone. Why want a manga is they already had anime, movies etc etc.

And I'm happy with what they got. I don't want anymore XD

hnmmmmm........

well the kingdom hearts manga series was really good in my humble opinion, even though it had exactly the same plot as the games,
and i think with FF unlimited and advent children, so i would like to see FF manga... there are always gonna be people who only like the games,

but thats no reason not to make a manga....

Of course!
I would vote for an anime based on the Final Fantasy VII characters and plot!
Just because it was the BEST FF game ever!

I loved Advent Children, and it made me even more hopeful for an entire anime series!
