Being a fan of Harry Potter (I have all 6 books), I'll go see it at the theater on the first week. So far, the only one that disappointed me a little was the fourth. Although everything that they showed was good, the things they omitted to show was inexcusable to me (like Harry at the Dursley's house in the beginning... Every Harry Potter book start with that and it's always a bit comical. Especially in Goblet of Fire where Ron's dad comes to the Dursley's to get Harry, and goof around trying to understand the muggles and try to adjust to them... oh well). They also didn't show anything about the International Squidditch tournament, and it was supposed to be such a great match...

But it was still good, and I'm sure Order of the Phoenix will be even better.

i like the feel of the first and second one, on the third they changed everything around which wasn't too cool. though

It's totally normal. Even in the novels the mood gets darker and darker books after books.

I have really high hopes for the new movie. Azkaban and Goblet disappointed me, but I put the blame for that mostly on Steve Kloves. Since the screenplay for this one was written by Michael Goldenberg (whom I have every confidence in after his excellent work adapting Contact) I expect it to be head and shoulders above those inferior films.

I had liked the first two movies well enough, the third one...*shakes head* but the forth one was quite good even though they left out some important parts that might screw them over in the long run. They left out S.P.E.W. completely, the whole ordeal with Hermione and the House Elves. Wasn't it either Dobby or Winky *can't remember which* who told Harry about the Room of Requirement?

I just wonder how they'll work that into the 5th movie. *shrug*

TM
06-19-2007, 09:42 PM
Yes they completely fucked up with the 4th movie, when you read the books as much as I have, then you feel annoyed when they miss something crucial to the plot in future books, JK had to tell the producers to include Kreacher in the 5th movie, because he's important to the storyline in the 7th book. Also the world cup scene in the 4th one was utter shit, for the record.

Akazaeon
06-19-2007, 09:48 PM
Indeed. >< Though as screwed up as the 4th movie was, it was at least still better than the 3rd movie. That one was just a complete disgrace to the HP series. I especially loathed the ending. >>

I haven't even seen the previews yet for the 5th one though...(could have something to do with that I don't watch TV much though. xD) When's it coming out?

well what i mostly meant is that they changed the layout around, ex. now there's a large hill leading to hagrid's place when in the first and second there wasn't, mostly due to the new director but the change around was :notgood: to me, it's not a big deal but i didn't like it. but i still like the movies regardless. and i had thought that they just got rid of the Albus Dumbledore from the first and second movie but i just found out that he died, didn't know that............

Prak
06-21-2007, 03:11 AM
Honestly, I'm perfectly happy with Gambon in the role. I know a lot of people bitch about his performances in the last two movies, but that was the fault of the writer and directors, not the actor himself. I figure he'll get to really show his chops in this film.

Nightowl9910
06-21-2007, 11:43 AM
Same here. Have to admit that I did slightly prefer Richard Harris's approach to the part, but even so, considering the circumstances, I think Michael Gambon did a pretty good job of performing as Dumbledore. I'm very much looking forward to seeing how he develops the character further in the next film, as I'm sure his best is yet to come.

Prak
06-21-2007, 01:39 PM
That's the thing. It wasn't Harris' approach, it was the way the character was written and directed in those films. The actors just do what they're told. That's why criticizing Gambon is completely stupid.

Brandy
06-21-2007, 03:50 PM
i'm sure quite a few people didn't even realize that there was a new dumbledore (as in they look alot alike) and in my post i wasn't questioning his performance i was just saying that i didn't realize that they changed the character because the first one had died, i had thought they changed him to be dicks

06-21-2007, 04:02 PM
Yea, I didn't know Dumbldore wasn't the originla Dumbledore until a friend told me about it. Honestly, I didn't pay that much attention to the character. I mean that face is covered in that white beard. Who can tell? Not me.

I guess I liked the original better. BUT that's probably because this Gambon fella is probably being forced to basically replicate what Harris already established to be Dumbledore. I mean you can't just say "Okay, we want to see what your take on Dumbledore is." after the first movie was already made. People would notice a difference. He's doing a good job though. Had me fooled.

Nightowl9910
06-21-2007, 05:36 PM
Yeah. I know what you mean. I probably wouldn't have noticed anything terribly different if I hadn't already known it was a different actor playing the part, when first seeing the third movie.

I prefer Gambon as Dumbledore, he makes him more human. ^^

Either way, I'll probably watch the film in the first week or so, then bitch about the changes they made until the DVD comes out, and then I'll realise that the films and books are two seperate things, and then I'll love it. That's how it always goes...

The stills and trailers that have been released so far are great, so this movie looks to be a good one. Although I'm more excited about the last book, which comes out like a week after.. ^_^;

Why do most of the people like the first two movies the most? I mean, I liked the third movie the most. I'm happy they're not as kiddy as the first one anymore. I like the dark... sphere. When I read the first four books, I was looking forward to the fourth film. That was my favourite book (then). But, they cut out too much, and I was upset that they cut out the entire Quidditch match, I mean the World Cup. When they were there, the players showed up, and just when it was about to begin the next scene came :(. Oh well... looking forward to the next one. As I said, I'm happy that the movies always get darker and darker.

Why do most of the people like the first two movies the most?

Lots of reasons. They were more true to the books, for one thing, and I think that alone is enough to justify the preference.

I'm happy they're not as kiddy as the first one anymore.

That's a really stupid thing to say about a movie based on a children's book. If you don't see any charm in their progression, that's your own problem, not a problem with the films.

As I said, I'm happy that the movies always get darker and darker.

Darker this, darker that. You sound like a stereotypically dumb teenager who's overly anxious to disassociate himself/herself with anything that other know-nothing teenagers might see as immature.

I too like the way the movies get darker and darker. Not because I prefer dark movies, not at all, but because the way it gets darker (gradually) we know the story will get us closer and closer to Harry and Voldemort's confrontation.

The movie gets darker and darker for a good reason, and it is nice to see the progression.

I don't think I can really point at one movie and say it is my favorite. But the first one is probably the best adaptation of the 4 so far.

The fourth movie is my least favorite so far, yet the 4th book is one of my favorite.

The movie gets darker and darker for a good reason, and it is nice to see the progression.

I know what you mean. As the characters grow older it's interesting to see how their personalities develop in relation to the ongoing story events. The later films have inevitably taken on a different atmosphere to the earlier one's as a result of this. While I would never say that they were better than the earlier films, or that I prefer them because of that reason, without a doubt it adds a new depth to the series - and is exciting to watch.

It would be great to see what they do with the dark scenes, like when Mr Weasly is attacked by Voldemorts snake and blood is supposed to splatter everywhere, I supposed it will be a 12 rating like the last one.

The latest Harry potter game gets **** STARS. :) (It's not one of the lazy/rushed/whatever movie-to-game adaptations like Spiderman 3 and POTC3) Also: It's amazing how the game developers modelled Hogwarts according to the film's blueprints. Even all the paintings is animated while you're exploring the detailed environments. Even the character models captured the likeliness of the actors/actresses. Can't wait for the film. :D <333

I saw this yesterday morning, and I thought it was great. I haven't enjoyed a Harry Potter film this much since the second one. Cutting Quidditch was an extremely smart move. Usually after we see a Harry Potter film together, I have to go over stuff with Merl and explain some things because of everything left out of the book, but they made much, much smarter cuts this time around.

I liked it more than he did this time, though. The other Harry Potter films have been the opposite.

I've seen the new one twice now and must say that it's my favorite to date. After the shoddy adaptations on the last two, it was was great to see some smart writing. I watched the movie when it came oput in my country. It became my favourite.
It isn't just the magic. It's more down to Earth. More real.
Wand dueling looks cool and the effects are for it great.
The ones who complain are the ones who want the magic and the bad acting of the previous movies.

David Yates really did push them and you can see it.
For the first time Harry seems to suffer when Sirius dies.
And Emma Watson laughs honestly for the first time!!!!
Cool humour too.

It's great to know that David Yates is coming back to direct teh next one.
Excpect more good acting!!!!

Meybe its just me, but when I watch a movie based on a book, I want it to be as close (in terms of story) as the book. And here is why OoTP fails for me. Half of the book was cut out, and the other half was changed to fit in the movie. I just couldnt enjoy that

Prak

Of course half of the book was cut out. That's because half of the book was dead weight in the first place. Aside from that, not a lot was actually changed. More streamlined, certainly, but not outright changed.

Just saw Order of the Phoenix and felt it's a pretty weak movie compared to the previous four. It has its moments but the buildup towards the end is dissapointing since the action was just too little too late. The whole dark feel was alright but the part Ron and Hermoine riding the ugly winged creatures thingy to London doesn't make sense since they can't see them in the first place( even my 9 year old niece spotted that mistake) They never even care to explain( they use brooms in the novel). :(
Rating: 2.5 out of 5

Prak

No, they didn't use brooms in the book. The book made a point of Ron and Hermione (and Neville too, I think) being uncomfortable riding creatures they couldn't see. I did wish they had done a bit with Ron and Hermione looking awkward riding them, but it's an easy thing to overlook.

Though it felt misplaced that they made this huge build-up to action, and when the action came it was very very short and not even that cool.
One of the weirdest things in this movie is at the end, I don't know if anyone else noticed but me and my friends hated that piece, felt just stupid.
It was when Harry had the fight with Voldemort, and then he had this weird vision in which Voldemort smiled and him and sticked his tongue out, I thought, omfg, this is going to be gay pr0n...
