(NOTE: All tracks with a star (*) beside them indicate those where SFX was unavoidable)
Another gamerip requested by many. While the Virtual Boy is extremely rare, it doesn't mean that the console's soundchip
is high-tech. My major problem in ripping this game was that the VB makes a constant hum when it's on and I can't omit
it out of my recordings. The hum isn't much of a nuisance in the majority of this rip, though it can be heard clearly in
the more ambient tracks. Therefore, I recommend you listen to this soundtrack on your home stereo rather than with your
headphones.
That said, there isn't a whole lot of music in this game, and there's quite a number of jingles also. Most of the
soundtrack isn't memorable, though there are a few good tunes in here. My favorites are "Level Theme 2", "Level Theme 7"
and "End Credits". I also discovered that in pausing the game in some areas, the music still plays but the percussion is
omitted. Tracks 36-38 are consisted of those 'alternate' themes.
In order to remove the sound effects in some tracks, I had to perform a bunch of editing to the waveforms. This was done
by various means, either by cutting+pasting channels or removing entire sections of recordings. These edited tracks are
"Fight With Enemy", "Enemy Defeated", "Mini-Boss Battle" and "It's All Mine!".
I might consider performing an SFX rip of this game since the SFX is awesome and, like the music, nothing has been
ripped. But that can wait for another time, I'm a bit burned out on ripping. Again.
Track-specific notes:
Track 3: There's a big chunk of the opening movie sequence in the game that isn't included in this rip because
everything else is SFX. The same SFX can be heard in track 31 anyway.
Track 23: This track was a bitch to work with, because along with the main melody, there's the occasional removing and
adding instruments that provide no consistency. Therefore it was impossible to tell where the song looped. Kairyu and
Dubble were kind enough to provide me with a fade-out point in this piece though. Kudos!
Track 27: This track is pretty climatic and I felt that removing the SFX bit at 0:24 would kill the mood, so I left it
in.
Track 29: This is pretty much an SFX-only track, but it's too significant to the game NOT to include, and besides,
Totaka knows how to write brilliant sound effects.
Track 31: Just like any other video game that contains cutscenes, the SFX was unavoidable. This is an okay song if you
ignore the continuous 'running waterfall' going on throughout (and yes, this track is supposed to end abruptly like
that).
Track 33: Seriously, do I REALLY need to explain this? :p
Tracks 39-41: A few bonus SFX tracks I decided to throw in. Track 39 takes place after the Opening Movie sequence, and
the other two are self-explanatory.
I've blabbered enough, so enjoy the rip.
