I am currently writing a novelization of Final Fantasy 8.

I've only just started, but I think it's going to turn out really good. Take a look, and tell me what you think so far! You just might like it! :D

great but you should double space each new paragraph and indenting wouldn't hurt.

Some major grammatical errors you should fix if you are truly serious about it.

I did. And I am. Please note that I am currently without a computer (a complicated family related issue), and am typing this up completely without a spell check feature, directly on the google site editor. I won't have access to a computer until about a month from now. (I've been working almost nonstop at the library, which has the slowest computers in the world, and gmail itself is blocked on them... I have to use a discreet proxy that the system doesn't know about). Plus, you should see how many drafts professional books go through before they hit the press. ;) (between you and me)

P.S. Have you checked the updates? I've rewritten much of the previous chapters, adding commentaries, many pages, as well as 3 new chapters. Please tell me what you think! Criticism and suggestions are readily appreciated! :D

Right, but you have to look at it from a reader's point of view. It's not such a good idea to post a first draft on the internet. Reason being that right away a reader will look at it, and see all the childish english errors. They will then most likely be turned off to read it and will think the writer is not serious about it.
Other than that, I wish you luck successfully finishing it.

It's still too bare for my taste. How about putting up pictures of each character in their profile, or something like that?

Otherwise, you've done a good job thus far.

I'm doing this at the library, remember. without a spell checker more decent than what gmail provides. I'm basically doing everything manually, almost as one would on a typewriter. Also, I don't have the luxury of typing first drafts anywhere but the site itself. I promise that once I get a computer, I'll take greater care of the documents before uploading them.

Also, the Ifrit battle is done. Next is the SeeD exam. :)

You don't need a spell checker for mistakes such as capitalizing the first letter of a sentence.

yes, but -- being used to ms word's autocorrect feature -- things like that are easy to miss, even when revising.

18. The reason I don't have a compy is because I've been moving back and forth between toronto and winnipeg, and don't have the resources to purchase one, nor the mind to ship one back and forth. Don't get me started on laptops.

Laptops are portable. I have one and don't have any issues with it.

laptops, ftw. iBook, baby, yeah!

He probably means he can't afford one, though. If he can't afford a desktop, how is he going to afford a notebook?

True. I didn't think that he was talking about price. Sounded like he has something against them.

Come on, you rely on Word's auto-correct to give the first word in a sentence a capital letter? Your grammar, spelling and general writing structure seems quite lazy for someone serious about finish an entire novelization.

He's doing a novelization, not a bloody fan site. A character profiles section would be overkill and, frankly, would cheapen the look of the site anyway.

No, but it's an easy thing to miss. Also, keep in mind this is in its early stages. If you'd prefer, I could wait a couple years and release the whole thing at once... However, it won't get done, nearly as fast, that way. I'm basically running off of fan support and emails, here.

The site should be working... o_0 Try it again.

True. I didn't think that he was talking about price. Sounded like he has something against them.

No, they're just not ideal for gaming and stuff. I just prefer desktops. Mind you, the novel's not the only reason I'm buying a computer. :P

(Points to response to Lukey's post)

I'm not a professional writer, and am doing this for free. One thing this means is that I don't have an editor to work with (aside from what I can do, which isn't much because I'm too close to the work to look at it critically), so I'm relying on 3rd party opinions here. Help is greatly appreciated, and will be repayed with more chapters. :D

Alienware is a good laptop for gaming. But if you want a God laptop used for gaming, you would have to pretty much build it yourself. Just like a desktop. Then again, I'm more of a console gamer. The only PC game I play is Knight Online, a free MMORPG :P.

For what it's worth, there are good gaming laptops out there, although I personally won't look into using one for gaming too much. I'm typing this on a HP Compaq Presario 900, which was arguably a gaming laptop when it was launched some 7 years ago (AthlonXP 1800+, 512MB RAM, ATi IGP320 Mobility Radeon 7000 video, the works), but now is a lemon when it comes to games. Laptops just aren't as flexible when it comes to upgrades.

I'd still suggest a good desktop for games. If portability is really a necessity, get one of those gamer LAN boxes, and keep a monitor, a pair of speakers, keyboard and mouse at both locations. They're small, but still allow for a good SLI/Crossfire and X-Fi config.

If you're willing to sacrifice gaming for full mobility, get a PDA phone with a full Qwerty keyboard. That's what I use when I'm away from my geek-hole.

But if you want a God laptop used for gaming, you would have to pretty much build it yourself.
Hmmm... DIY laptops didn't really catch on at where I am, but that's a good point. For me tho, I pretty much pumped my entire college graduation present money into a desktop computer specifically built for games, although most of the time it would be running an emulator instead.

Cool! That sounds like a great idea.
FF8 has such an amazingly touching story, so it's a great idea to allow people to hear it without having to play the video game, in case they aren't into that/don't have time/suck really bad at video games.
I hope you finish it soon!
