Sorry if I sound dumb, but I believe Square Enix made a mistake in programming the game to stop when Rhino died during the batte with Adel. They should've used a plot fork in the game story programming so that if Rhino dies during the fight, the storyline in the game, as well as the ending changes to something else. You should've thought of it, Square Enix. Big mistake.

OMG what genius, aww why couldn't you be on the creation team!!!! Ever think they know what they're doing? Also if Rinoa died Squall has no reason to fight, and if the sorceress dies Game Over. Just because you wanna see it happen doesn't make it good.

The game over should have never have happened; if Rhino died, that would give Squall incentive to avenge her death, and he would forevermore dedicate his SeeD life in Rhino's memory. Oh, and add a whole new look to the game's ending. Like a story fork, like, in the Sonic games, the good ending, OK ending and bad ending sort of thing. A game's replay value can be enhanced if it's got multi endings.

1. Her name is Rinoa; there's your mistake.
2. Don't double post, use the edit button if no one has commented after you
3. You are already driving people up the wall.

A Rhino? I didn't know there was a rhino in the game

Let me spell it out for you, no Sorceress no FFVIII world. No story. No possible reason for Squall to fight.

no peace, NO World. The entire reason everyone lives is because of the sorceresses. No seed, no monsters, no nothing.

Wolf. Please stop badgering everybody with stupidity.

It may have been a cool idea to have a divergent storyline if Rinoa died, (because I personally loathed Rinoa. But then, I loathed Squall, too.) but it would've killed the whole happy ending vibe of the deal.

Who can say if Squall and Rhino may have broken up after the game, filed for divorce, or maybe died? Or worse? For that matter, as long as she lives, Ulty lives too, so there's still the danger that chaos may come back to wipe out SeeD. So if Rhino died, there would be no Ultimecia, and no evil.

P.S.: At the risk of sounding off topic, why didn't Squall punish Rhino for going off by herself, when she shuld'nt have, and running into Seifer, who dragged her to Adel? Story or not, she had no business doing something like that, doing something she wasn't equipped for. If I were Squall, I'd spank her, and kick her off the team and dump her. But that is my own POV.

The man is emo for chrissakes, he'd forgive her anything. Even if she was the enemy of the world, he'd still be her knight and all that jazz. That's the best aspect of the game to me. He'll do anything for her, he understands why Seifer was doing what he was doing earlier in the game--not that Seifer was in love with Edea, that Siefer was willing to do something that seemed completely at odds to rationality for Squall, at the time.

You are right about not every ending having to be happy. Complete and utter nothingness may very well be the only way to achieve peace--it's only "true" form. People don't usually like that in their mainstream media, though. Look at the ending of Matrix Revolutions, which I absolutely LOVE, and many people despise.

It's almost as if we realize that reality does not hold for us eternal happiness--only snippets--and we demand it in our media, even if it is a fallacy.

And in Hollywood too, which is a big fat lie. Still, if Rhino died, would Squallers move on without her and remarry? Don't forget, Rinny an' Ulty, they're one and the same. I mean, if it happened in Revenge Of The Sith, it could happen here, in which a Rinny's lured away, mamybe some tragedy changes her, so she turns her back on everything, joins the dark side and turns into Ultimecia. I can imagine Rhino, after turning into ulty, upon discovering she had (inadverntantly) bumped off Squall, calling out, "NOOOOOOOO!!!!" (cue The Beatles' I Am A Loser).

FFVIII's happy ending was happy only in the aforementioned vibe. Five minutes after I stopped playing, I thought about what had just happened, and my little "Awwww! >sniff<" buzz promptly died in obscurity.

That world is fucked up as hell. Military schools full of trained killers raised from childhood? Destined to fight/kill sorceresses--IE Rinoa--despite the fact that a Commander of one is in love with her? The fact that Commander's daddy is the president of a foreign nation, and before that, was a soldier in the country that was recently trying to dominate the world? Yeah. Their world is fucked up.

So there's a first to punish those you love. What does it matter, the world, anyway? That is another stereotype seen in Hollywood, the old "forgive and forget" thing, along with the sexist storylines used as well. Go figure.

WTF is this thread?

Wolf359: That is quite possibly the most stupid thing I've heard this month. You want a game like Final Fantasy to follow multiple paths? Why don't you go get Fable instead?

The story was about Squall and Rinoa's love. Kill Rinoa, you kill the whole point of the story. You totally failed to understand what that story was about, and you fail at demonstrating how changing the path of the story there would have been a good idea for the theme they were using. Basically, you are complaining that SE didn't give you yet an other "Cloud avenges Aeris's death" storyline. That had already been done before. No need to do it yet again.

And really, you really suck at the game if you let Rinoa die during this battle against Adel there.

This entire thread is giving me a headache.

Simply put --- what everyone else said. You generally aren't going to get a lot of multiple paths from Final Fantasy games. And Wolf, don't abuse the "Report Post" feature. The particular post you reported wasn't really all that much worse or different from anything else anyone has said here.

Closing this before it spirals completely out of control...
