Hey, I'm trying to get the Sagittarius to collect all of the Uber Weapons.

I haven't had much trouble getting the other ingredients for it except for the Beastlord Horn. I've been attempting the to get the Beastlord Horn by stealing from Catoblepas. I'm on the hunt currently, and all I do is enter and steal from him, then I exit into the area with the save crystal (this is in the Zertinan Caverns, by the way). I continue to repeat this process. I have gotten High-Potions, Beastlord Pelts (?), and several Gemini Gems. The stealer is equipped with "Thief's Cuffs". I have reviewed many walk-throughs and they all say that Catoblepas can have Beastlord Horns stolen from him. Am I doing anything wrong?

It's either that or I could try and chain Humbabas in the Mosphoran Waste but those guys don't spawn fast enough and therefore I lose my patience with them. Besides the Beastlord horn is a rare-drop for them.

And thanks in advance for the help.

Just go with the Humbabas. The horns are monograph drops, so chaining doesn't matter. Zone to Nalbina and come back. I honestly thought this was going to be about Moon Rings, as they take much longer to get :D

If you can't handle the time to zone to Nalbina you will never survive the processes to get the Danjuro, and the Yagyu Darkblade.

EDIT: The monograph you will need is the Knight's Monograph.

Thank you for the help. The funny thing is is that I already got the Danjuro and the Yagyu Darkblade. I guess my patience is being cut short by the Saggitarius alone, lol.

Would you mind sharing your experiences in this (Thread 40168) thread, if you used methods different from those described therein.

Yea, killing Humbaba's at the Mosphoran Highwaste is the easiest way as they are easy to chain, as long as you don't kill the serpents. You want to kill the humbaba's 2 screens north of babbling vale, 1 screen north of babbling vale is the screen where the fire elemental spawns often, and there is a rock there that you can cut down to gain access to the screen with the chocobo. That screen is two zones away from the humbaba's, so you can kill the humbaba's and come back to the chocobo to reset the Humbaba's, and there's hardly any walking at all really. Just set a gambit for your team to attack the team leaders target and manually target the humbaba's and you're set.

The Sagittarius was the first big weapon I got (apart from Masamune), and the easiest for me. The danjuro and yagyu darkblade are a bitch, and personally I don't think danjuro is worth the trouble, but it's getting every weapon that counts for me. I just got the volcano and scorpion tail, and I need a couple of emperor scales to get the Durandal, which I think is gonna be better than danjuro for my uses.

I'm just dreading trying to go back and getting a zodiac spear from Henne :(

:(

Hah! Tell me about it. I basically had to get a perscription of prozac to attempt both of those. I also didn't find much of a use for the Yagyu Darkblade as well.........I didn't mind the Danjuro that much and I never used the Volcano once.

The way I kept my sanity trying to get these weapons, was that I did side-quests (or hunts) when I started gettting frustrated. It kept me from throwing my ps2 against the nearest wall ;)

You should try it on Yiazmat ;)

I already killed Yiazmat before I got the Yagyu........I'll keep that in mind if I ever decide to do another run-through of the game.

I got it just for yiazmat. I know have all the stuff I need (masamune+genjigloves, yagyudarkblade, formalhaut+darkshot) so I just got to actually do enough hunts to make the hunt available.

I've been trying to get that damned Saggitarius as well.

But how the fuck do you get those cunting Moon Rings from those bastard Ash Wyrms??

It's a monograph drop. Dragoon's Monograph to be precise. Save at the crystal in Babbling Vale and then run east one screen, hop the chocobo and ride it to the top of the mountain, fight the Wyrm. If you get a ring, go back and save. Otherwise, reset and rinse and repeat. It doesn't take horribly long.

Can't I just take the Strahl somewhere and wait for its ass to respawn? Or is it a one-time thing (if so I'm fucking screwed, as of now!)?

Neg

No, you're not screwed. That's just the only place you're going to find him. I seriously doubt taking the strahl will take less time than riding to the top of the mountain. I mean, where are you going to go?

They don't respawn normally, so you can't chain them, but that's irrelevant since it's a monograph drop. You just have to wait til you get them. If you reset at the top--if you don't get one--you don't have to waste time running back down the mountain. They only respawn if you reset, as far as I know. Kinda like the Darkmare in the Stilshrine.

You're right, Kneg, they only respawn when you reset. Found that out myself after trying for ages to get it to respawn >:(

Ash wyroms appear in the great crystal as well but it's easiest to get them from the Mosphoran. You don't need to ride the chocobo if you already pushed the rock in babbling vale. You can just walk up to the top of the mountain as long as the floatweed is set right.

Just 2 hunts to go before Yiazmat. Bet you cant guess what they are.

Neg

I bet if you timed it, it took less time to sprint the chocobo up to the top. I could be wrong, but whatever.

Doggoneus
05-28-2007, 11:14 PM
Bet its not. I'll time it someday.

As far as I know, you can't even get the chocobo up to the very top of the mountain as you can only have 3 lots of floatweed at one time. You need three to get the chocobo round to the mountain, but there's another two needed to access the top of the mountain from there. That's what I thought anyway.

Neg

You can do it. I get off the chocobo in front of the Wyrm.

Chocobo's and wyrms!

Go to the great crystal for moonrings, its full of ashwyrms. The time it takes you messing about resetting the console running up the mountain or riding chocobos, you could have gone, got your moonrings, killed a few rare monsters, gone for the Excaliber, Zodiac Sheild, Ultima, or maybe even try getting the Danjuro.

Doggoneus
05-29-2007, 11:16 PM
Ha, I wish. They're not that often in the great crystal. Once you find one, yea, its easy to zone 2 screens and come back, thats quicker than resetting, but you couldnt do the rest :P it'd be great if you could though.

That's how I got my moon rings, no problem. Unfortunately I had to chain 41 of them (if you exit two areas and come back without killing anything) before I got both of my Moon Rings. If I ever see another Ash Wyrm in my game, I might just lean over and puke on my controller, as I am that sick of them.

The Ash Wyrm is located in the top areas of The Great Crystal. If you fight your way up there, you might get to be able to level your characters if they have Embroided Tippets equipped.

It took me about 20 minutes. I have to finish the Feywood and head through Giruvegan before I ever see the Great Crystal. Who knows when that'll be :(

Its strange, you speak like you played the game a lot, and that you know a lot about it. Hard to believe you haven't completed it even once yet.

Spent too long levelling up Vaan at the start of the game you mean. Unless I'm thinking of someone else.

Neg
05-30-2007, 05:52 PM
Yeah, that was me, but it was Vaan and Penelo :p 20 hours worth, to be exact. I bought the entire upper license board for Ashe when she became available, so that's a good estimate of how much I leveled early on (not just those initial 20 in the estersand). Also, I had full license boards for all by Golmore.

I've read most of the strategy guide, and all of Sephirosuy's loot and rare monster guides, so I do know a lot. But like Symball said, I'm doing everything as it becomes available.

The only reason I don't know when I'll get to the Great Crystal is because I haven't really been playing all that much and have a hard time bringing myself to now. What's even worse is that I don't really feel like playing Twilight Princess either :(

Wow, you sure fooled me! I was expecting you to be on your third frun-through of the game or something, lol. I hope you write down important points of the storyline or else you might forget what the game is about ;) .

Knegative- it's a real shame you don't fancy doing that now. I have been holding back a bit on the story to level up and do the side stuff but there is a nice guilty pleasure in just running through the story without worrying about anything else. I also found If you overdo the leveling the rest gets a bit boring as it is too easy- which means its time to run through the story until it gets hard again.

When I get a new game, I just play through, do a couple of sidequests and complete the story whilst its still challenging for my levels. I then start a new game and train up more, aim to complete sidequests etc. A game lasts longer that way. And then if I really want to, I'll play it again but I'll set myself certain rules to make it more challenging, and still try to complete all sidequests etc. Not one after the other, mind, but it means I can play a game 3 times without it getting boring, and with FFXII, thats a long time.
