Okay, I have decided to make a gamerip sampler for those who may want to get an idea of what the music is like or for those wanting to see if it is worth downloading the entire thing.

http://www.sendspace.com/file/51moc6

Here is the tracklist for the sampler compilation:
1. Gauntlet Dark Legacy (Main Theme)
2. Castle Barracks (Pts 1 & 2)
3. Province (Boss, The Lich)
4. Sky (Spire pt. 4)
5. Ice (Boss, The Yeti)
6. Province (Town)
7. Dreamworld (Carnival)
8. Mountain (Cliff)
9. Forest (Swamps)
10. Battle (Trenches)
11. Temple of the Magi (Coin Room)
12. Province (Cemetary pt. 2)
13. Castle (Armory)
14. Forest (Roots)
15. Ice (Mine pt. 2)
16. Toxic Spire (Coin Room)

Is this the same soundtrack as the Dreamcast Gauntlet game?

Gauntlet Dark Legacy is separate from Legends, though many of the GDL's songs are re-used or remixed from Legends.

(PS. If you've played City of Heroes/Villains you might recognize the music from the second half of the Ice Mines as well as the ghost town/ancient tree coin rooms, since Joe Lyford worked on both the gauntlet and CoH series)

You know, I may have to keep that in mind since I have several friends with CoH.

In any case, I've been dealing with a ton of real life issues that prevents me from doing other gamerips at this time, but you guys will know when I'm TRULY active again.

(This is not an indication, trust me.)

Wow, this is one of my favourite music selections in videogaming; I was looking for this everywhere (and only found about two non-MIDI files). Thanks! ^_^

Edit: Ah, and I thought you'd miss it. ~ There is a simple small (and awesome, in my ears) piano addition that goes along with the Province's Town music; naturally, it plays only within the building with the piano in it (it's a default passage in the level). Can you please get that, too? Thanks. ^^

And how exactly do you "rip" the songs? I always wanted to know. ~

Believe it or not, the piano segment will ONLY play when sound effects are enabled in-game. In order for me to get that segment right, I may consider playing through the level with sound effects on and the music off (ironicly).

As for how I did this gamerip, I just recorded using a line-in like method. I just can't remember the exact name of the pieces that I used. It took a lot of precision and editing for tracks such as the 8 tracks it took to make 1 Carnival track. The rest just needed editing for the segmenting of each world and/or level.

I might go back and add that piano segment on the final version (with some tweaks and adjustments to already made tracks).

In the past, I asked people if there was a place that has an equal or better upload limit than Megaupload, but nobody gave me any links or suggestions for this. That's the only reason it has stayed on MU for so long. If you have a site that has at least a 400 MB upload limit, I will be able to help you.

Ah, it can vary by the format of the game disc, meaning from what console it was derived from. For me however, it's a matter of actually having the spare time to do it. I can only assume you plan to use said effects for a project. If so, let me know about it and I might see if I can get some time in to get the effects.

If track 16 is "Castle Barracks (Pts 1 & 2)", then I can upload it. However, you might want to try extracting JUST that track from the archive to see if that works. WinRAR can do that sometimes with individual files and there's usually nothing wrong with the file.

If there's enough demand for, I MIGHT consider it. So far, I haven't heard any complaints regarding this gamerip, but if there's truly enough debate over this detail, it's not impossible to perform a direct rip from a PS2 disc. It would take some looping processes AND a solid way to get the music (since the OLD method is seriously outdated and extensive). If you would take the time to extract the RAW files, I just might look into it.

It's weird, but the first time I downloaded this was on my mac, and everything, including Track 16 is complete; nothing is corrupt and it sounds great. However, I wanted to put it on my iPod so I downloaded it on my PC as well, and that's where I hit the Track-16-is-corrupted snag. I don't know if it was just a coincidence, but maybe PC has trouble with the file for Track 16.

Also, just for fun I have been trying to meld all the songs together in order of levels to see if making a compilation video would work along side of it. If anyone is interested in hearing it, I'll spend more time on it, or if you are interested in making the video (because I don't have the equipment to record my gameplay) contact me and I will try to finish it =).

As of right now I have meshed it all until the Sky Dominion, and even now it's a bit long, so maybe I'll cut it down or else have to segment the compilation vids.

You were at the Sky Dominion? That's hilarious considering that one of the tracks is over 7 minutes long (un-looped). I would recommend fading that musical segment halfway through, as long as it's not abrupt. So yeah, I'm interested (the original game ripper).

Anyway, here's an update, I finally have access to the RAW files, so I will be handling the next few phases of the new gamerip. I might even have to create a NEW thread once it's done as it will definitely be a larger gamerip (that and this thread is a bit dated).

AS FOR THOSE who still have trouble with track 16: try re-extracting that single track from the rar file. If you have problems in the media player still after that, let me know and I will upload that file again. (Though you might want to wait since I'm working on a new rip)

AS it turns out, I had a look at the RAW files quite some time ago and for whatever reason, about 1/3 of the music is not even available in any of the RAW builds I have come across. If that wasn't enough, some tracks don't even have there complete loops/sequences available either. Trust me when I say this, I analyzed every single file in the PS2 build of the RAW files, and I can't get the GCN or XBOX builds to work for me at the moment.

It's been awhile. I had my iTunes set to random and came across the track that I meshed together (it's 14.5 minutes and currently ends at Desert Boss). I only took a short bit of each song and tried to flow them together. It gets a bit redundant after awhile, but I always intended it to be background music for clips of the game, with the audio samples reflecting the visual levels shown in the compilation as they flow into one another. I also did it without using any external sounds, so everything you hear is just the music from the game, sometimes multiple tracks being played over one another (there is an awesome example of this with a few of the Province tracks in the beginning).

Anyways, I have those first 37 tracks meshed together, but I don't have them up on a file share or anything. I'll check out the site that you originally posted the tracks on and then place the link in a future reply.

Talk to you later =)

I don't have the equipment necessary to rip the video right onto my computer, although I would have a lot of uses for it. I originally was offering it as a track that someone else could then maybe do the video to.

I will look into what equipment I would need and see if I could pull it off =)

Hi, I downloaded the megaupload file twice, but track 16 was corrupt both times. And I tried to extract track 16 singly several times, but it did not work. :(
Sound Reaper could you be so nice and upload track 16 as a separate file? Or anyone else?

EDIT: Well, instead of only complaining about the missing song, I should have said a "Thank you" for recording the other 71 songs! :)
I found a tune of this soundtrack by coincidence on youtube and was very happy to find the whole soundtrack here.
And I`m going to get me the game too, and a PS2 to play it (borrowed one).^^

And well, I found song 16 streamed on youtube and recorded it from there to have the complete tracklist in case anybody wants it, but the original recording has a slightly better quality I guess, so my request is still valid. :)

Sorry for bugging, what about track 16, can you make it available? Or is it lost together with your broken external hard drive? New records would be a great thing too, but its a huge amount of work I guess, isn`t it? :) Do you remember how much time you`d spent on doing the actual recordings?

I have had extraction problems with track 16 for quite a few years. No matter how many times I reupload or re-encode it, there's always some sort of issue. Nevertheless, I can probobly take care of that after I get my first external hard drive (it's not impossible to recover it, timing is just the issue).

As for how long it actually took to record it, about one week, give or take a day. The biggest reason for this: compilation-based tracks, such as the Dreamworld (Carnival) stage. Looking back at it, my transitional skills have vastly improved since then and I would definitely want to re-record that one in particular, along with a few others.

Okay, thanks for the info, sounds like it was a lot of work, but it was definitely worth it from my point of view (now enjoying the soundtrack^^) . I`ll check back here from time to time to find out if you recorded some new tracks. :)
cheers

I'm still waiting for this song. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jm50IANwJnw)

I just looked it up again, and someone put it on YouTube; there are even some good comments on it. xD It's such a short track, but it's wonderful. And yet it's a "sound" in the game.

But I'll just rip this music off the video and edit it myself sometime. Maybe I'll attempt to transcribe sheet music when I have the time...

I still listen to this wonderful Gauntlet music. ^_^ I wake up to it sometimes--particularly the Mausoleum, Desecrated Temple, Skorne's Theme, Dreamworld... Dreamworld reminds me of Nox Arcana's "Carnival of Lost Souls" album. =D

This wouldn't be the first time someone has brought up that particular tune. This was not recordable normally due to it being a sound effect and not a BGM. The method I used for recording would require me to do the exact opposite of what I did before: turn sfx on and BGM off (and of course clear the enemies of that area). When I fully have time for a re-record of certain tracks, I will work on getting that particular tune as well.

Of course, don't let me stop you from extracting that, I would download it myself ;D.

Thank you times a million for this! LOVE this game played it to death. Also glad to hear that Joe Lyford's great talent is still in the industry. :)

EDIT: Winrar informs me that Castle Barracks is corrupted by the looks of it.

AS I have said countless times. No matter what I do to the compression of the music folder, that one ALWAYS winds up like that.

So, once again, here it is individually uploaded.

Thank you so much for this nostalgic masterpiece!

Looking forward to when to when you re-record these amazing tracks in high quality!

Things like this are the reason why these type of sites should exist. :D

Happy composing! ~ Wynn

Is there any chance to get this on MF or perhaps uploaded as a torrent? This was a fantastic soundtrack and it looks like the ripper made a good rip. I've been craving the Dreamworld music, especially - what can I say, nostalgia for a good game with great music isn't that uncommon. ;) If anyone who happens to have this could let me know if it's still hosted somewhere, that'd be fantastic. Thank you!

I had a feeling that something like this may happen someday with Megaupload being gone for good. I will have to arrange for a transfer of this gamerip to my new main computer. However, if someone has this complete gamerip and can upload it sooner than me, please feel free to do so.

It may take me about a week to get it back. XD

Hey - that's okay. It's awesome that you made the rip in the first place and are sharing it with us. I don't mind waiting, so no pressure to do it 'till it's convenient for ya. :) Again - thanks. It's crazy cool that you went to the trouble of ripping this game, and I can't thank ya enough!

Woah - not only do I owe you one for the soundtrack, so major thanks for the upload, but..! That username brings back nostalgia by the truckload. Also, is that one of the gremlin sharpshooters from HoMM V? Haha, rock on. Anyhow, again; thanks. I was really craving this and it means a lot to have the chance to listen to these songs again. Thanks!

It's indeed a gremlin sharpshooter, but it's the Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes version (which is a prequel to HOMM5).

Ah, don't worry. I'm glad that someone was able to upload this to another site so quickly. If it's ok, I want to edit the VERY FIRST post with these links.

Clash of Heroes? I haven't heard of that - the art style is interesting. Should I give it a try?

Thanks - I figure there's more people out there who'd appreciate that just like I do!~

If it were up to me, I would be doing a lot more gamerip wise. However, I have so much more to account for now that I have just been too busy. I'm glad that there are still people who appreciate this even now.
