It's it only me that found using these 2 will worsen your state?
I've used it only 4 times and found that I can beat foes without using it easier.(Since it spent up precious MP)

No, practically everybody else who has played this game has realised that too. Espers are completely useless and quickenings are good early on if you can get to them on the licence board but again are useless later on.

Later on, Quickenings are really only good for the MP boost they give. And Espers are completely useless, the only reason I'm going to get some of the optional ones is to go into the Henne Mines secret area.

I think I've only summoned an Esper about 4 times, they ended up dying at least twice. And the only bosses I've used Quickenings against were the Demon Walls (I had two for each character anyway, so it worked out well.)

Belias to get into giruvegan and thats the only time I've summoned. And i wouldnt have beaten that first demon wall without quickenings, but hardly use them other than that.

one of the hunts can be tricky without quickenings (the overlord) as he startd handing out serious amounts of damage once he gets to HP critical. I like to use them as a coup de grace on hunts and bosses where I can as the cut scenes help drag out what can be easy fights a little so they feel more important.

I only got the Espers and Quickenings for the uber MP boost but I never really summoned any of them... just to look at them, really. o_o;
I got totally stuck at the entrance to Giruvegan though... I'm not a thinker to the obvious... xD

Early on Quickenings are beyond awesome for MP boosts. You don't nearly do as much damage as you would later in the game, thus Augments like Warmage and Inquisitor regain only little amounts of Mist Points.

Later in the game it becomes nearly impossible to run out of MP (for example, Gambit: Foe -> Party Leader's Target -> Shock), this doesn't use up MP at all later in the game. As oposed to Fira that still costs 9 MP with all Channeling and Warmage, Augments.

Also, Zodiark is the only viable End Game Esper, since you can cast (or use items) to inflict Petrify on your self and then instantly do his Esper Technick.

Espers are useless to me. But quickening are useful later on also. In the later parts of the game when you're fighting a big boss and you bonly have a small amount of mp you can start the quickening and make a big combo knocking down the bastard of a boss before he kills you off. So to me quickenings are useful.

How many times can a quickening be used?

Your question's a little bit vague. Do you mean how many times during a battle, how many times during a chain, or what?

I like to use quickenings to finish off the later marks and bosses, as most of them get truly brutal once they reach the HP critical stage. Also used them to finish off Vayne's final form because I got sick of his spells.

Some of the early bosses are also very easy to kill with quickenings. I seem to recall defeating Judges Ghis and Bergan with one chain each.

Sorry I realise it is vague. And since posting the question I have noticed that when I use a quickening that my MP goes way way down, so that kind of answers my question.

But wow thanks for being so quick and eager to help me!!!

You get mist charges. I usualy come out of a quickening chain with at least one person with atb least one full section of mp. Usually because late in a chain I have time to do a mist charge but dont have time to actually do the quickening.

No problem. ^^

And yeah, quickenings usually take up all of your MP. But really, it can depend. xD

Just to make things clear- when you are performing quickenings you can get mist charges (a free charge up) for characters who have already used their quickenings or otherwise have low MP- this means that you can in theory perform long chains of quickenings to deadly effect. in practice it means that you end up running out of time to do them after about 8-10 hits, but with a little luck you can get chains of 15-20 which are really deadly. You need to press r2 during the cutscene of the latest quickening to get a chance of a mist charge if all the options are greyed out. This becomes more apparent later in the game when you have lots of characters in your party who have multiple quickenings.
