While it's not official, it's still possible.

I've managed to transfer it to my PSP, and boy am I glad I did. In my opinion it is a great port, I don't see why Square wouldn't have thought of doing something like this. It keeps up with the same standard of graphics as the original, if not better. The only minor let down is the horrible analog control due to the stick on PSP. Absolutely amazing though, it recaptures the feel of the original and it's "good to go". Now I have a reason to finally play my PSP.

Anybody else manage to pull this off?

(I'm new to this forum, so my bad if this is in the wrong section!)

Isnt that possible with just about any ps1 game?

Not all, but the majority of them can be.

What I'm trying to say is that others should try it out, it's a great "addition" to the PSP.

Plenty of people have done this. Nothing new to be honest.

Also, something like "Pepsi Man" is a great "addition" to the PSP.

Did I mention that it was new? I'm pretty sure I haven't. There's kind of a lack of posts regarding this topic, so I figured I'd start a new one.

I'm just expressing my thoughts for those who haven't had the chance to try it out on their PSP's.

Anything wrong with that? :-\

Hey, I didn't mean it like that. However, check the "general gaming" forum section and PSP modding has been discussed before. Feel free to dig up that thread if you want.

Yeah I know, but I'm referring to FFVIII, not the general idea of modding your PSP.

No offense, but I still find it pretty irrelevant to make a thread like this. Maybe if there was something that you can do to the game (like walk on water or something) after transferring it to the PSP, then I would find it worthy of a topic.

Anyways, congrats. I plan on putting FFVIII on my PSP after it's fixed and after I do the firmware thingy.

i'm with you lionheart...there should be ports of ffVII-XI on the psp but square is bullshitting and keeping us waiting/guessing on what they'll do next. it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that the psp isn't doing well at all, especially compared to the ds. nothing a few high profile ports wouldn't fix. these ports/rereleases are long overdue...especially given the fact that some of them are really hard to find if you want to play them. its not as easy to emulate psx games as snes games so its not as simple as say...d/l ffVI and an snes emulator to play.

you're not gonna get any positive responses on this subject on this site though.

I'd have to say I can't really see Square-Enix doing much in that direction, given that they seem to be aiming their development squarely at the DS.

Oh, and I'm not saying I don't necessarily support the idea. I actually have little to no opinion on it because I don't own either system. I'm just speculating based on what I know.

Square is releasing ports of FFI, FFII and FFTactics for the PSP in the near future (the former two are receiving a graphical upgrade). I wouldn't say porting FFVII-IX as well is particularly unlikely, especially since it would make them more money then if they released the games for PSX emulation.

unless they can squeeze the whole game onto one disk it seems unlikely they will bother making a port at all. When they could simply release ff7, 8 and 9 as a downloadable game isos.

Ive played ff9 on my psp and it's great stuff. Once you've set everything up to play ps1 games it's very easy to do. Even easier if you simply download pre converted psone games.

i'm still wondering why its not downloadable content for the psp and the ps3...

is it simple enough to transfer ps1 games onto a psp? I dont really understand all this firmware talk and dont want to screw up my psp, but would love to play some of the FF games on it

I felt the same way when I first purchased my PSP. After a while though, I just got fed up with hearing about how so many PSX classics could be ported to the PSP. So, I did it, and all I have to say is that it's well worth the risk.

As for the firmware talk, odds are you can stumble across a walkthrough at www.pspiso.com (http://www.pspiso.com) if your interested in porting any of your Final Fantasy games to the PSP.

For what it's worth, Square might be trying to cater to both PSP and DS owners. I.e. releasing some games exclusive to the DS and some to the PSP.

For me tho, I own a DS, but I am planning to get a PSP also when a good PSP game comes out.

I want to get a PSP, but I heard some rumors that SONY may be making a new PSP. Some article I read even speculates that it may be a PSP Cell Phone type thing, but SONY wasn't releasing any new info on any new products they are planning. Just rumors for now.

I wouldn't mind a PSP Cell Phone-ish thing. Then again...it's not really necessary.

I heard that it's going to have like an 8gig HD, smaller design, white colored, and going to have a built-in camera. I don't think that having this PSP is necessary, but this is what I've heard over a year ago about the new PSP.

Sounds pretty sleek. Guess I'll be waiting to see if Sony truly does put out a new model. FFTactics on the run would be awesome.

I just don't think that stuff is worth the money for a PSP. A complete waste if you ask me.

While all the added bonuses, in my opinion, are worth the upgrade, I would not purchase it on behalf of the fact that the newer models of the PSP cannot support the custom firmware needed to emulate PSX games.
