I've only recently started the game etc. etc.

I've been hunting whatever marks are available and I'm pretty sure I'm not weak for my position.

Basically, I've just reached the Westersand after defeating Judge Ghis. I've tried several times to beat that mark and its chickatrice bastards but I just can't because they're too heavy on the attack. Even if I put the the Chickatrice's to sleep so I can hack at Cluckatrice for a bit, they soon wake up and return the rampage!

I just wanted to know if I was supposed to beat the mark at this point? Or am I too weak? Or is it not intended until later?

Just, go back to the Giza after the first Rains, you'll have no problem beating it.

The cluckatrice is pretty hard since it's an elite mark

Personally, I waited until I was around lvl 50 to try any Elite Marks and most V+ marks. I slaughtered Cluckatrice in like 5 attacks, then you just go around killing them all really easily. Sure it's kind of cheap, but it allows you to move on with the story line for the first main part of the game, without having to worry majorly about enemies that kill you a lot and piss you off.

The way I did it was to put them to sleep. Usually one of the chickatrices would notice me before I'd put them to sleep, which brings the rest running. If you make sure that all three chickatrices are asleep before you attack the cluckatrice you'll be fine, I kept putting the chickatrices to sleep until Cluckatrice was dead, then I killed the chicks one by one. I remember having a problem with mp though, I think I used some ethers, about the only time in the game I did. I did attempt it as soon as I could though.

Tidus's advice is solid if you're willing to wait. Just remember one thing --- this Mark is only available during the dry season. Don't try to find it during the rains --- it won't be around.

Yeah, it seems they are elite marks indeed.

I've left it for the moment, along with the Rocktoise.

And basically just went on to kill the Nidhogg in the Mines. Which is much simpler, despite it getting around 5 hits on his every attack.

If you wait until you get to Jahara then, that will trigger the Giza weather pattern, it'll be the rains until you get to Jahara if you wait until then.

Blind and slow him, and just keep a high HP

I just blinded him and sleeped him. After about 8 fires, he woke up and I just hammered at him.

Had no trouble the second time through, just really really overlevelled though (level 40 at the first time in Bhujerba)

Doggoneus
04-21-2007, 09:21 PM
How can you level so much before that time? I couldn't spend that much time, I'd get bored. Takes half the fun out of it if you're ovelevelled anyway.

Dude, I spent a good 20 hours in the Estersand before ever sneaking into the palace. OCD helps with boredom :)

Level 40 at Bhujerba? Dude that's insane.

Yup, I know, it's called plenty of time hitting wolves in the Estersand. 200 chain battles are fun, and give you shiteloads of items

gather all the chickens around and then use a quickening chain,if your lucky youll kill the small ones, and nearly wipe out the big one... get a guest to help kill them.

I don't really think he has that many quickenings for a big chain that early in the game

Well, I personally don't think marks are necessary to beat this game because I only went through 4 regular ones and like 3 elite:\ I beat the game easily with only 4 of my 6 characters being lvl 49-55. The two other characters I didn't even bother training. But if you want tips on how to kill this elite mark and you find it difficult than don't do it. Unless you don't want a challenge than get to level 99, but ya I have a question

******SPOILER******

Judge Ghis and Basch are brothers cause I think they are like 95%, but my friend says they aren't even though I said when Basch was framed for killing the king he said he had a twin and the ending shows Basch in Judge Ghis's armor and you know it's Basch cause of the scar and Ghis died:D and Balthier and Fran are alive cause the necklace got sent back, but I don't entirely understand this. Someone who knows what I'm saying please explain.

*********SPOILERS***********

Basch's brother is Judge Gabranth if you paid attention to the game, you would know it.

you wrote the wrong name.

My sister is convinced that Gabranth is Balthiers brother, I can't convincer her otherwise so i just laugh.

I accidentally read both spoilers. Damn you all!

PS: I've beaten the Mark, I'd trained loads at both the Sandseas and it was generally, a very easy battle.

And, no, I can't get many concurent quickenings, since only 3 characters have them at the moment.

Also, Belias was overrated in terms of difficulty, Aqua Shot and Water and he's gone in a minute or two!

Killed the Cluckatrice with quickenings, proceeded to rape Chickatrices with my weapons at level 21/22.

Doggoneus

Aqua shot on belias is great when his defence boosts kick in. Personally I was levelled enough to beat the first demon wall on my first run through so I was way levelled to beat belias with ease.

Rapture

Ahh, I didn't even try beating the first Demon Wall, I might have been able to do it though! I'm not sure.

ClaudStrofe
04-24-2007, 05:38 PM
You can go back to kill it but save before the fight because there is a % chance of getting this sword I forgot the name, but sometimes its something else. He is tougher than the other demon wall though

symball

Rapture- depending hpw much further you are in the story it is well worth it.

Kill the first demon wall and you get access to the demonsbane sword which is hidden in raithwall. this is much better than any other weapon available at the time until you can finish the patient quest and get back into Barheim.

edit* saving first is a good precaution as there is a time limit but don't worry about re-starting if it isn't there, just go for a run araound the block and the chest will re-spawn.

Rapture
04-24-2007, 07:12 PM
Yeah, the Demonsbane is tempting.

For the record, I've only just come out of the tomb, and beaten

*SPOILER*

Vossler. I'm around level 18-19 ish I believe.

Kurisutaru

The Demonsbane is definitely worth it. I was in my 40s and went back to fight the first Demonwall, and the sword was still better than some of the weapons I had then.

Doggoneus
04-24-2007, 09:23 PM
And you can get 6 of them if you really want to, if you keep allowing the chest respawn. By the way, I was level 22-ish with all my chars with at least 2 quickenings each and I only just beat the first demon wall after two quickening chains. Very difficult. Definately worth it.

But if you cant do it, its not very far after defeating Vossler that you can get back into barheim, when you have to go to jahara it allows you to get the barheim key to get the deathbringer. Now THAT is well worth getting, so dont beat yourself up if you dont get the demonsbane.

symball

I agree- but it is nice to use in the mean time as the deathbringer sword in the barheim passage has some pretty hard monsters next to it. If you cant beat the wall then you are going to struggle to stay alive long enough to steal the deathbringer.
