Lunchbox McGillicuddy
04-14-2007, 06:24 PM
Yeah, I was supposed to see Grindhouse Wednesday, leaving me to see ATHF on opening day, but the friend I was going with stood me up, so I basically said screw it. At least this way I got to see it for a matinee price, and I'll do the same for ATHF today, so hooray, hooray for the poor.

Edit - Ok, I just saw it. It started off absolutely wonderful and then slowed down a lot. I was a little disappointed over all, the laughs were a little too sparse, and while I didn't expect much of a plot, damn, it definitely felt very empty. I still liked it though.

SPOILER-ISH

I hope everyone stayed til the end of the credits :D

I would have never imagined they could have made the Plutonians that consistantly funny. The audio on Ghost of Christmas Past from the Future was a little hard to make out in theatre audio, but that is a minor grievance. I wish MC Pee Pants had more time in the spotlight, but as is it is okay. I just hope I can make time to see it again before next weekend.

I'm rambling, sorry

In spite of the intro, I still had two idiots behind me rambling. Had to move down about 8 rows to get away from them.

This tanked at the box office hardcore, didn't even break the top 10.

At imdb there was a post asking if there were any people older than 20 that actually enjoy ATHF without the aid of marijuana and such. I'm not really sure how it's gotten the reputation of a stoner show or whatever, I've never thought of it that way anyway. So in the thread I mention that I'm 21, have never been high or drunk etc, but I still love ATHF and I get fucking flamed for it! I was called a moron for not indulging in the party life. Fucking ridiculous.

It tanked at the box office because it wasn't in a lot of theaters. I can't find it anywhere around where I live. I would have been first in line.

Lunchbox McGillicuddy
04-16-2007, 01:20 PM
I also saw 0 advertisements for it on television outside of cartoon network, so I doubt many people knew about it in the first place

Despite doing so poorly in terms of box office rank it still made back all of the budget, it only cost $750,000 to make. It's not a bomb by any means.

There were a few points in the film where I felt like they were stretching for the running length, but overall it was top notch. I agree with Ktulu that the first half was much stronger than the second. The concession stand/metal opening was one of the funniest things i've seen in awhile.

semi-related: I discovered last night that Comedy Central will receive the rights to syndicate Futurama starting in 2008. While that by itself isn't very exciting, they will also be airing new episodes, which for now consist of material cut up from the Futurama movie (a straight to DVD release that Fox wanted after seeing the success of Family Guy DVD sales). I don't know if this is news to anyone else but me, but it makes me happy in the pants.

I hadn't heard the movie was out until seeing this thread. I knew one was in the making awhile ago (because of a different thread), but had forgotten about it til now.

I've got a gift certificate for 2 free movie seats I've been saving up for something good. This may be it.

I never initially considered the show a "stoner show", although I have watched it while under the influence. Its funnier when sober though. A song bird documentary would get the same amount of giggles out of a stoner as an ATHF episode.

Neg
04-16-2007, 04:29 PM
I'm with ya Ktulu. I guess you could call me straight edge and I adore Aqua Teens. I've never understood the stoner "requirement" either. I enjoyed it very much, all the way through.

I want to see it again because there were so many "big laugh" moments with tons of dialogue that was missed because it followed so close on the heels of those laughs. That's pretty common in most comedy movies in my experience though.

Lunchbox McGillicuddy
04-16-2007, 06:02 PM
I too felt exactly like they struggled with keeping it interesting the whole way through. I guess it's only natural that writers used to catering to an 11 minute format would have a little bit of a problem adjusting to one much longer. Overall though it was fairly amusing, and the crowd at the showing I went to got a lot of laughs. There were still way too many silences after the first quarter/first half though. I figured this would be more of a "laughing all the way through" sort of film, but there were just so many slow dialogue parts that went nowhere after a while :(

I rated it 7/10 at imdb.

I haven't seen it yet not too sure if I will was never much of a fan of the show to start with but eh whatever floats peoples boats.

But I do have to point out I did see a few comercials for it on Cartoon Network while I was watching the Adult swim a few times it was pretty short from what I rememebered of the Comercial but they were there. I think they showed up around 2 or more weeks and in Blood+ time slot maybe Bleach's not too sure but in that time frame since that is the only ones I watch right now on CN. I hate Naruto the Anime because one they make Naruto ijdit and 2 a whole season of fillers no thanks. And for those who think Naruto is an idiot if you read the Manga he isn't just Navie he does get better pick time like near Hokage level though not quite there yet. But yeah that is all I watch now a days on CN but I still saw the Comercials maybe they put them in that time frame because they figured only the fans would go see it and this the fans would be watching the late night shows.

Probably will Knegative. The Cut You Up With A Linoleum Knife segment was worth the price of admission alone, so it'd make the soundtrack worth owning as well.

As I said earlier, it's still considered a success as it made back all of it's money, and after reading up on it I realize it made 4-5 times more than it cost to make, so that's pretty good. It's probably going to be a hit on DVD, so I think the creators can feel good about it. I just wonder why it wasn't advertised more outside of adult swim's programming block. It's seriously sad that so few people even knew it was out (opening on fewer than 900 screens didn't help either)

Yeah, I did actually. Carl Wash was just disappointing. It has a couple brief moments, but it and the Dickesode were blech. On the other hand Global Grilling and Grim Reaper Gutters made me very happy. I really can't explain why I like GRGs so much.

I honestly refused to believe that Andrew W.K. actually did Party Party Party, well because that ep was probably my least favorite of this past season, and ever. When Shake looks forlornly at the audience near the end it's almost as if he's apologizing for the entire thing.

But apparently Andrew did and it is on the soundtrack. One of the less necessary, but all of the above could just be me.

Since we're all TF fans, I have to say while the song isn't the best, 'More to me than meat and eyes' wins cleverest title :D

Right now the plan is to see it again tomorrow at 10:30 AM. I want an empty theatre.

Haha that's cool.

This thread needs an altered title to better indicate relation to ATHF.

Earlier when I said "season 4" I really meant the ones on the 4th Box Set. Those episodes are considered part of season 3 however. The only season 4 episode I've seen is Boost Mobile.

I recently rewatched my Vol. 4 box set, and I really liked all of the episodes aside from Hypno Germ. Not knowing much about Season 4 (such as dirt foot, deleted scenes, etc) I can't really say that I feel the show had a decline in quality until I see more of that season. I'd say seasons 1-3 were definitely quite lollin though.

Neg

Oh, well in that case, I like the vast majority of Vol. 4. Both of the latter Mooninites is on there and Gee Whiz, eDork, Tshirt of the Damned, etc. etc. Quality box.

I agree that Hypnogerm is less than fantastic, but Tulip Sniper is a great band name, c'mon admit it :D
