I have to be honest when I say that I think that Dirge of Cerberus should not have the title of Final Fantasy because Final Fantasy games are known mostly for 3 things:

1. The FMVs in between the action. (well duh)
2. Swords, Magic and Armor.
3. The RPG format.

And I have come to find that Dirge of Cerberus does NOT have any of these three features. Therefor, I am NOT dumping the game (it's not bad) but in my view, it should not be known as Final Fantasy. (the only thing connected to Final Fantasy is the characters and the storyline.)

Its marketing. By having the Final Fantasy in the name, it brings more customers

Putting a "7" in there practically makes it a gold mine.

This game has Magic to a degree. and lets also consider what other things final fantasy games have.

1.A deep engrossing storyline.
2.Well developed intresting characters.
3. Better than most games.

Check Check and Check.

while on the surface it differes from the run of the mill FF games its is none the less a FF game one i must purchase and finish this time :P

Okay while not being a great game. it still surpasses a large amount of the poor titles on the market. while games such as DMC1 and 3, the MGS series and God of war are better games, DOC continues to be better than a good amount of ps2 games such as DMC2, Many of the god awful star wars games. many of the 3rd rate street racing games, spawn, Driver and many other titles.

so as you can see while not being the greatest game of all time this game still offers something for the player.

btw i am far from a DOC fanboy. i can see there is a large amount wrong with it. and once iv finished it i wont play it much again but i do belive it has some redeeming qualities

DOC may have an interesting story. It may have some good music too. It also may have a lot of stuff from the Final Fantasy games thrown in such as leveling up, potions, magic etc.
But lets face it. DOC is not an RPG (and to avoid an attack of Prak, or whatever Final Fantasy games are), but a third person shooter. And there you see the failure of the game. You walk around doing double jumps when the auto aiming does the rest. You can barely find things to cover yourself. These are some points that made the game uninteresting and unoriginal for me.

You know, your use of big-name games makes your argument invalid for one blaringly obvious reason. It can be applied to just about any game out there. You first state that it isn't as good as some big-name games and then revert to say that it IS better than some other big-name games.

DOC or "Vincient May Cry" as I like to call it, did indeed have a intertwining storyline with FF7. It allowed people to play as one of the most loved and mysterious of the FF7 characters. Personally, the game was the shit! The mission mode was a bitch to conquer...especially when you have to fight Weiss with motherfucking Cait Sith! But, it does have a slight replay value and it is part of the FF7 Legacy, whether gamers wanna admit it or not.

And being part of the FF7 Legacy makes it good?
