What will change if u win first match against Goers? Of course there is sequence when Wakka holds the cup. But there's more changes and I've won every time so...Do u know, what is it?

The only difference that I've noticed is that in the scene where Wakka retires, Datto's holding a big trophy. It doesn't change any lines or gameplay, if that's what you're wondering. The match is just there to expose you to the mini-game, I believe.

So do I. XD

I've been wondering if anything was different if you win though. I figured maybe you'd get an item or something.

I always win. I feel like I owe it to Wakka. His dedication always gets me:

"My best memories are here.
Wakka, Captain of the Aurochs." :puppydog: :D

If you win, you get a Strength Sphere and Datto holds the Crystal Cup in the following scene. If not, Datto holds a blitzball and you get no Strength Sphere.

There's also a scene on the Mi'ihen Highroad a short while later where you meet Luzzu and Gatta. Gatta says 'Hey, we saw the game, you guys were great!' If you win, Luzzu says 'Congratulations, Wakka'. If you lose, it's just 'it was close, Wakka'.

That's about all you get I think.

I lost the first time, but I reloaded my game and won the next time at the very end of the match. It felt good to stick it to those damn Goers and win with Wakka

Its a hard game but a strength sphere that early in the game is a godsend.

Not if you aren't above exploiting that lovely glitch after you score with a Jecht Shot.

I've never heard of that glitch. Can you explain?

Sorry to dp but Im intrigued by this glitch.

Swim into your own goal and the opposing team will swim in circles on the other side of the pool. If one follows you, break him and he'll leave. You can do that an entire game. Score once, and then eat up time in your own net.

It might not be in the International Version.

I've never heard of that before. Thanks Knegative. I'll have to try that out next time I play through the game.

I did that when I was starting out, and obviously in the championship, but I stopped doing it when I got serious about Blitzball. Way too much fun to score 6 or 7 goals every game. Jecht Shot II, ftw!

It's especially fun to get into double digits in almost every game, depending on the team you are playing

Jecht Shot is great, not good at first because of the hp cost but later on, its brilliant. ANd that glitch sucks, there's no fun, not that there's much fun in blitzball anyway but hey. Doesnt make the games go any quicker.

Neg

It lets you win the championship without too much muss. Let's you basically guarantee a victory in every game. But I agree that it takes the fun out of it (and yes, I think there is much fun to be had) and I said as much above.

So it's cheap, but it doesn't suck, imo.

Ok, the glitch is good to win that first game because that can be quite tough, but you cant really use it if you're after the jupiter sigil. Only scoring one goal isnt going to level your strikers enough to compete against the better goalkeepers later on, and it would get too difficult.

I actually started a new game to play through again about three days ago, got to the championship and it was like 'damn this is pretty fun when luca was winning 3-1 going into halftime.

I actually enjoyed it since it was a lot harder then well, how easy it gets later.

So going into the second half about 2:30 into the half I got a pass to Tidus with nobody on him and used Sphere shot (I didnt want to use jecht shot because of the hp cost.) He scored. :o Well 30 seconds later wakka comes into the game. Then with like 15 second left wakka scores to tie it at 3. :)

Overtime

20 seconds in, Wakka has the ball he shoots and he scores.

Go wakka. :P

Just thought I should share that with you all since your oh so interested.

I lost 4-0 in my next game against Al Bhed though..

damn nimrook and his 18 CA to start. =(

Perfectly fair point. I didn't use it all that long, like I said. I was just quibbling over the semantics of "sucks" to further support what I said. We agree in everyway, it was just me splitting hairs over phrasing.

Also, you can change the prizes as I said in that other thread to get the Jupiter sigil w/o too much fuss.

Doggoneus
04-22-2007, 01:32 PM
Really? Hang on, is this like resetting the whole Blitzball thing to bring everyone back to level 1, but you can still get the Jupiter Sigil that early on? Its not like you have to win all of Wakka's overdrives again is it?

Neg
04-22-2007, 06:10 PM
No, no, no. You're just changing the prize offered. You're not reseting the stats, that would be CRAZY :D

I'll go dig up a source for it.

EDIT: This isn't where I first read it, but this (http://www.uffsite.net/ff10/bguide.php) is the strategy. It's in the blue, moogle-adorned box on the left-hand side.

Doggoneus

Ah but not for the league. I've got to finish the league Im in at the mo, then win the next tournament for the 4th overdrive, and then, if I can reset the league prizes, Ill have to do one more league. If I cant reset the prizes for the league, thats 2 more leagues. Wayy too much. I made wakka a custom weapon anyway, brkdmg, evade n counter, triple overdrive and something else. It works fine for me.

The annoying thing is I got the jupiter sigil in a previous play through and that took me ages. Now I have to do it again D:

Neg
04-22-2007, 07:32 PM
I played enough Blitzball that it didn't really matter to me. I was sure you can change the league prizes too, though. It's been a long time, so I may be completely wrong :/

Doggoneus
04-23-2007, 05:33 PM
The way to do it is to play blitzball throughout the course of the game and not leave it until you want the sigil, like I did. I think I played to get wakka's attack reels and then left it.

Neg
04-24-2007, 12:48 AM
I had the opposite problem. I played so much once it became available that I had to play catch in the sphere pool with Wakka once he became available, since I just had to use him and get his special move.
