I have just been introduced to Final Fantasy, but like the storyline of #8....would this be a good game/story to start with?

To be honest i started with 8 to. I loved it.

But after you get 8, you must get 7, because 7 is also very cool.

In my opinion i think you should start with 7, then work your way up, 8 to 9 to 10 etc. I have never played 6 so i wont recommend that, its not that i never wanted to, but i could never find it where i live, and i didn't want to order online .

But its up to you. I would say go for it, but i recommend getting 7 right after that if you can!!

Many, many people don't like this game, but if you already know the story and don't have a problem with it then I don't see why not.

Really, I don't really think there is any one title in the series that you should or shouldn't play first, besides FFIX (since you won't understand the references to early FF games) and FFX-2 (since it's a direct sequel to FFX).

Since there is only one Final Fantasy that directly draws from a previous one, you can start just about anywhere. I would recommend V, VI, or X as a starting point. I wouldn't recommend starting with I, though. It's too easy to be turned off by the graphics and lack of dialogue.

well to me FF8 is more of a beginner game because its not to to complicated like 7. 9 was a little but not to bad.

8 is very basic, this is why i recommend it. I'm not going to spoil it for you, just when you start playing it, and get done with it, and then try 7 or 9, you will understand why its more of a beginner game. But i still play it :)

I liked 8 the best. But I'm into futuristic things so that was a plus. Not sure how to recommend it, but I liked it and it was the first FF game I played and beaten.

Start with any of them, they're all different enough and they're all pretty good games.

Personally I think 9 is the best overall (but 7 was my first) and i don't dislike any that ive played (which is 4 to 12 and a little of ff3 jap)

Well... based on the question of this thread... yes. In fact, this was the first FF that I've ever start before playing FF 9, 10 , X-2, Dirge of Cerberus and 12. My friends first introduced this FF series to me before I even knew what FF was. Aftre playing this game... I guess I got majorly addicted. To my point of view, FF 8 should be the staring point for newbies because it has the not- so- bad graphics plus it brings out the view of Sakarugi-san's idea of FF after he had created so many FF seires before 8.

I played 8 recently and i must admit the graphics look rough. However that is not important because you would expect worse looking games on a 32bit console.

Yeah, back then I thought it was cool since the CGI was great and never seen before plus I thought the problem with the graphics was my CD prob... I guess... not.

I recommend ff8. This whas my first ff game too. After ff8 i started playing ff9, then 7 for the pc and now again ff8 for the pc. So i think ff8 would be a good starting point.

VIII is (apparently) extremely easy due to the junctioning system, so it's as good a place to start as you'll find.

The game only comes for Playstation or PC. I would recommend the Playstation version over the PC one, if only because the Playstation was the platform it was designed for.

Positive points of the PC version --- the graphics I'm pretty sure are better, you can trade and edit savefiles if you have any problems.

I wouldn't say that the graphics are better on the PC version, but the character graphics are sharper than the PSOne version, But when it comes to the background and some of the CGI, it's kinda pixelated compared to the Playstation. Also, the music on the PC sounds kinda 8-bit compared to Playstation.

I actually say no, play 7 or 9 first. 8 is an EXCELLENT second one though.

IMO the junc system is a bit more complicated, I'd get acquainted with a typical FF with MP and all.

IDX --- good point, I think that's really what I was after. The character graphics are certainly sharper than the PSOne.

FF8 was the first of the series I played, and it's still probably my favorite to date, with FF10 in close second.

This is pure speculation, but I seem to notice that most people who started with FF7 and loved it generally do not like FF8 as much. Likewise, those who started with FF8 and loved it generally do not like FF7 as much. From reading various forums, this is the impression i've gotten. To me, it seems to suggest that both games are about equally good and the only reason people like one over the other is due to which one they play first. However, since both received almost equal marks regardless of FF7 being the first of the two in the series, *perhaps* FF8 is in truth slightly better. Or not, who knows.

In my own opinion, FF8 has a stronger story than FF7, and of course, the updated graphics make a world of difference. It can be difficult going back to the block figures of FF7 after you've played FF8. YMMV.

FFVIII is riddled with faults. However, I found it a lot of fun to play, and it does have its good points. It's worth at least one playthrough anyway. I can't say much for it quality wise, but I did enjoy it.

I started with the original and played them as they were released in the US. Then I played 3/4 of VIII and just didn't "get" it. I got really fed up one night while fighting Ultima Weapon and deleted all of my save files--all games, not just VIII.

I picked up V as part of Anthology and played it one summer break, but I was still disillusioned, so I deleted it after I was done for good measure--That's where it went Agent, if you remember this from one of my first posts on Shrine.

A couple years later I wanted to play Path of Neo (I'm a Matrix fanboy) so I bought a PS2 and decided to give VIII another shot after I was done. By this time I was too damn emo for my own good and it just tickled my love-sick soul. :-P My favorite FF, easily.

It was my one of my first PS2 games--preceeded only by Constantine and Enter the Matrix--so I thought it was neat at the time. I can see it for what it is now, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't pull it out from time to time to mess around with. When it comes to Keanu games I much prefer Constantine. There's just something about it. $10 PS2 games, FTW.

I know this is a little re-runnish but even I started with 8 and worked my way backwards, eventualy playing Tactics. When I finaly went forward, I was dissapointed with X to say the least. If you're looking for a challenge and good story (so to speak) then play 7, if your looking for fun and introductory challenges with the side quests do 8 as it seems you've already decided. 7's side quests were a lil' tough but you'll love the game man, it's HOURS of fun.

i personally say start with 10, i thought it was the easiest, ffviii was my first though because i got it wen it first came out. but i think 10 would be good for beginers, or the ones for snes/nes/gba.

i started with 7 then played 8,9, 10 then played 4 because 11 was online which was retarded, now i have 12 and playing that on the occasion but im stil playing ff7 but its only hard because there is some holes in the story. but as u play through it the 2nd time it comes clearer but if you start with 7, 8 will be rediculously insane cause of the drawing idea. in my eyes i dont like ff8 cause of the drawing and somethings you miss you cant really get back like if you missed a gf from a boss. but i later figured out u can but from some optional bosses but meh i gotta replay 8 and understand it lil more

I personally found FFIX to be the easiest to learn.

My playing order goes:
1. FF9
2. FF8
3. FF7
4. FF10

I found the Junction confusing at first. But I'm sure you'll manage.

Im playing 8 now and its a little annoying but im playing the card game to keep me interested.. but the one field exam is almost impossible to get 100 score for the exams... the draw system isnt the greatest it is very annoying but kinda cool when you get use to it 8 is bad but you can manage to beat it

i think you should go with 8, its pretty easy if you get the hang of the junctioning (soz bout spelling lol) system. FF8 is my personal favorite as i love the story line, its really simple (FF7's materia can get annoying) and it has my fave character, seifer :).

Usually after your first playthrough you'll get the junction system down. After you do, the game is a breeze (the only thing boring about drawing is if you try to max out every single spell you come across).
