I've recently replayed FF7 due to me kicking my addiction to other current RPGs but also because I never finished the game.

Now I'm stuck on one problem that seems to have no real answer. Pushing my Great Chocobos to S-Class before breeding a Blue and Green.

I've maxed their speed to about 85kph using 99 Slykis Greens feed in one fell swoop and nothing else will boost it. Trying to race in A-Class where the jockeys are running with ~120kph birds is infuriating. Even pushing my chocobo to run faster, with his gloriously maxed Stamina bar at 999, they keep me bottlenecked in the pack and I can never get a lead.

So, is it possible to race to S-Class with Great Chocobos or even raise their stats more?

Been a while since I did chocobos on FFVII, but I'll see if I can help. As I remember it you don't need to have your Great Chocobos at S-Class-they can even be B Class if I remember correctly. What you need is one Good and one Great (two Greats or two Goods will not work) who are both at least B Class, and feed them a Carob Nut (Steal from Vlakorados near Bone Village) to produce a Green Mountain Chocobo.

To get a Blue Chocobo, train your Great Chocobo and Green Chocobo to A-Class and feed them a Carob Nut.

By the way, your post wasn't entirely clear about what you wanted to know. I think you were looking to know how to get a Green and a Blue Chocobo. If not, please tell me what you wanted to know and I'll see if I can remember.

I'm running with the PC Version, breeding two Great Chocobos works for me, I have breed a Blue Chocobo with them.

But to clarify: Is it humanly possible to race a Great Chocobo to S-Class after he has been stat maxed or is it possible to raise his stats above that 85kph and 999 stamina upper limit Great Chocobos seem to have?

As to why I am being anal about getting the birds to S-Class is because I remember reading that the ranking of the Chocobo determines the base stats for the offspring. This would result in a faster bird at the end of the breeding cycle.

Oh, right. I have to admit, I never cared a great deal for raising chocobos beyond the necessary class to get the next colour chocobo.

I doubt it can be done, you can get Wonderfuls to S-Class, plus Gold, Black, Green and Blue, but I don't think a Great Chocobo would be possible to get to S-Class.

You do know that you can refill the chocobo's stamina by holding down R1/R2 and L1/L2 right? That'd be my main tip. If that doesn't work, 'fraid I can't help you.

Don't think the PC Version has keybindings for the L and R buttons on the PS Controller.

Great Chocobo tp S class is pretty much impossible, especially that your speed is 85, and the other's are well over 100. Oh and then there's Taioh.

Also, wasting 99 Sylkis Greens on one Chocobo? It's not even worth feeding your Gold Chocobo more then 10 Sylkis Greens, let alone 99.

I think I may have gotten at least A, possibly S with a gold before. And I basically did what Ceidwad said --- you need to keep the stamina boosted.

P.S.: There is a way to do the same trick on the PC version, but I forget what the equivalent keys are. You might try GameFAQs --- see if you can match up the controls.

Just go into the configuration in the game menu and set the controls for everything so that you know what all the buttons are, then experiment with buttons you set until you find out what boosts the stamina.

It's helpful to know that you can set your speed at max (without dashing) for the whole race, dash a bit to get out of the pack, and dash all the way to the end from the rainbow ring thing. I don't know if it's possible with a great event then, but that's the most efficient way to race.

This are troo. No seriously, I figured out the keys to this, but this has been nearly a decade ago, but it's possible.

Thanks for the help and all the replies.

I had hoped that just being able to push my Choco harder than the other racers as well as a combination of skill in handling the track and getting out of the pack would give me an edge.

I gave up however and just bit the bullet and breed my Greats at A-Class for the Green and Blue. It did result in their speed, after being fed, capping at 85 kph just like their parents. They however could race in A-Class. Their immunity to the slowing portions of the track gave them a better edge. I was also able to successfully breed a second generation of Black Choco's who where able to reach their speed cap at 149 kph. So, no real loss for not reaching S-Class with my Greats.

As for feeding my Choco's 99 Sylkis Greens. I was following a guide by BTB, from Gamefaqs, to the letter. I only feed my two Greats and my two Wonderful Choco's 99 Sylkis Greens. The Green, Blue, Black and Gold Choco's I only fed 25 Sylkis Greens.The guide was a source for breeding a Gold Choco with a speed cap at 179 kph.

I reached 176 kph with my last Gold Choco. S-Class is a joke with that kind of speed. Just go to Manual Mode and run your Choco hard. You don't even need to try and do any real racing. Teioh isn't even a threat, in fact he makes it better by finishing the race faster than the other racers.

Sing it! Teioh was awesome at that point --- the faster you can end the race, the better.

Ok nice, I needed 1 more post so I can pm and this is the perfect thread without having to spam :p

Here's a list of PC vs PS controls(I'll mention the actions, since you can bind the keys either way you like):

Circle = OK
Cross = Cancel
Triangle = Menu
Square = Switch
L1 = Target
L2 = PageUp
R1 = Camera
R2 = PageDown
Start = Start
Select = Not available (on ps it's the same as using R1, so not important)

Have fun to all the PC players here with this, atleast in my opinion, very important info about controls.

Greetz,
