Okay i dunno if iam just mad but it i think i have an issue with my game. I have noticed while playing it on a big 30inch hd tv the graphics are realy poor, as i run the walls have all jaggerd edges and fliker just like ps1. Dose anyone else have this issue? are the graphics suppose to be that bad that when you run the walls fliker and have jaggerd edges?. I have watched a few movies and it appears they dont get the same problem as me.

Please help!

I have heard that some of the HDs have problems with FFXII. I don't know if it is all of them or if it is just non-sony but this has been a problem others have reported. I don't have a HD so I can't really tell you but my old clunky TV works just fine.

Its probably just because you have it on a 30ins screen. The picture looked more crispy clean and less jaggerd on my old 25ins non-widescreen tv than it does on my new 27ins widescreen hdtv. If you tried setting the 16/9 option on the game and on the ps2, as well as the flicker filter and screen shake then it might just be to do with the resolution.

Final Fantasy XII runs in 480i - which, in laymans terms, is a really low resolution. The jagged edges and such are in place because most normal TVs don't have the resolution to display them.

The best suggestion I can make is that if you are currently using component cables, DON'T; use the original AV cables. It still won't look as 'good' as it does on a standard TV, but using component cables just enhances the ugliness. Using standard cables blurs the image a little, having the side effect of increasing overall quality.

Well that's kind of depressing, I wouldn't know since I'm using DScaler and component video regardless. I probably tweaked the filters and video settings to compensate for the general jagginess of most games.

But yeah, composite cable or even an RF feed would blur things well enough.

You can't stop it. The flickers and jagged edges are because HDTVs display images in a different ways to normal TVs.

If it bothers you, I suggest using your older TV to play the game. Personally I can deal with a bit of ugliness in exchange for 16:9 and the dynamic colour of my HDTV.

@Zetsumei:

What is DScaler? If it's something that upscales PS2 games to a higher res (or even just progressive scan), it is something I NEED.

Iam now running it on an old TV and the walls still fliker when i move? this is making no sense its almost as bad as ps1 at some points (in a city). is there a screen size i should change or ps2 options?

Can you define what you mean by 'flicker'?

I mean, the simple answer is, if every other part of the game is fine (ie, menus, characters, etc are all not flickering constantly), then chances are it's how the game is meant to be. Unlike Final Fantasy X, they didn't have the benefit of fixed camera angles, which can sometimes lead to camera issues.

This youtube video:

Has some guy running around Rabanastre (in the Japanese version) - obviously there are no jagged edges because it's a low resolution, but apart from that, can you see any of the problem you're experiencing in that video?

It's deinterlacing program that reads the Video-In signal from your video card and allows you to use your computer monitor as a TV.
