I think we need an all-purpose Pokemon thread since the Pokemon rumble in GD seems to have died.

So Diamond/Pearl are coming out in April. Discuss.

Also, I submit that the coolest Pokemon is Lapras. Discuss.

Man, I don't get why everyone always thinks dragon types are so cool.

I like Dragonite, and that's about it... Salamence is really powerful but I can't stand the ones that are all RAWR I'M BADASS LOOK AT ME. Plus almost all of the dragons are 4x weak to ice and with the amount of Pokes out there with ice beam it's practically suicide to use any of them.

Lapras isn't very cool at all imo.
just a big thing to ride on woop-de-doo

my favorites are like Allakhazam or Gardevoir and maybe Slaking like I said before I also like Jigglypuff a lot but that's thanks to Smash Bros and not the Pokemon games. Of the new gen coming out in April I think Aruseus looks pretty awesome, as well as Naetoru (though apparently it's confirmed as Turtwig for english which is TOTALLY LAME), and Yuxie. I also like Flygon, Kingdra, and uh Pidgeot and about 490+ more.

SO THERE YOU GO

What. Lapras isn't "a big thing to ride on." It has awesome stats and a fantastic move pool, and is downright cool to boot. =/

Now Wailord, that is "a big thing to ride on." Good for nothing but surfing.

It doesn't matter whan my lvl 100 rayquaza (no cheats, lots-o-training) uses Hyper Beam on your ass and kills (excuse me; faints) you in one hit...

Legendaries are designed to be overpowered. They're banned in competition and not particularly impressive. Everybody who owns Emerald has a Rayquaza. Any other legendary with ice beam would kill it. As would any non-legendary, powerful special attacker with ice beam who can outspeed it, of which there are plenty.

For the record, you might want to reconsider using hyperbeam in the first place. It leaves you vulnerable for a turn which means even something slow could come in and slaughter you with ice beam. And the fact is, you really don't get that much of an advantage from it. Yeah, it's 150, but Quaza's base attack is already so high, half the time you'll probably OHKO the same stuff with extremespeed, a move that always hits first (there you go, a solution to the problem of fast special sweepers with ice beam!). Or give it earthquake if you really want to fuck stuff up with physical damage. Hyper beam is basically suicide against a well-rounded team.

Also if anybody wants a pokemon from LG/FR/R/S tell me so I can like, reserve them for you or something (probably only really necessary with Legendaries?)

Also I can get leftovers for people but I WANT SOMETHING AWESOME like all ur starters.

So if you could set aside like a Mewtwo and a Mew (if you have one?) that'd be super cool; that's about all I'd want from there without having to resort to trading with other people.

Do you have Emerald or some other reliable way to clone, or what?

In the original versions, there is a glitch that can be abused in order to get Mew (link (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pok%C3%A9mon_glitches#Mew_glitch)). You could also get him from official Nintendo events (like I did). They had a machine that you plugs your cart into and it put him in your party. Aside from the fact that he levels up really quickly and can use every TM/HM, he's not that great. Mewtwo absolutely schools him 1 on 1.

Not sure about later versions.

i fawking love this series. i still have the reciept of my very first pokemon game. RED VERSION YAY!! 1998. wow. has it rally been that long already? ^^

first of all. i hate people who use legendaries in their teams. actually. let me rephrase that. i'm sorry. i HATE how EVERYONE uses legendaries in their teams. there we go. it's like everybody just copies eachother.

btw. i myself have a philosophy just like many of the pokemon trainers or gym leaders do in the tv show. except mine is just that i pick whichever pokemon looks cool/awesome to me and train it awesomely. i dont' care about base stats, or move pools or shit like that. I just say "ooh, that pokemon is cool!!" check it's element to see if i need that type of element, and then get it and train it into awesomeness. that's my style. similar to karen's from the elite four in silver/gold. i remember she says that's her method as well. (she copied me)

my original team!

Charizard (obviously the coolest looking of all the starters in red)
Vaporeon (gorgeous!)
Golem (power!)
Alakazam (i named him MindReaper :p)
Raichu (not as awesome looking as pikachu, but i wanted the extra power :p)
Pidgeot (prolly the only cool looking flyer that can learn fly. all the rest look stupid)

that's my team. i lvled them all up to 100 long ago. but while trying to clone mew for a "friend" my game got erased so i had to start all over. (now only 3 are lvl 100 the rest are like 9x) i get super bored trying to lvl so they been like that forever now. -_- so now i never clone on my red EVER. i use my extra copy of gold instead. luckily i have all the eevee's and mews' i could ever want still so i'm cool.

in silver i'm working on an all eevee team. i think i'll make it a team of 5. i don't want a 6th because he won't match with my all eevee team. so i just use mew as a swiss army knive to get around when i need to. all my mew's are max lvl anyway so it doens't matter. they're just tools.

but anyway. yah i'm totally hyped for pearl/diamond. i'm thinking of buying both since i own every other pokemon game in the history of pokemon. o_o

it'd be easier for me to list what i DON'T own cause i own so many. lol (i don't own blue, the card game, and 99% of all the console games. i only have pokemon snap for console) so yah. i might get blue though for completion or clonings. always good.

i got pissed one time cause my yellow game was erased when i was testing my new gba gamecube adapter to play gba games on my tv. i got so fucking pissed. i'm glad i used yellow though and not red. now i'll never plug any of my pokemon games on it. O_o

I've never encounted anyone using a legendary on their team. I guess I just don't know lame people who play Pokemon.

Anyway all serious Pokemon competitions ban legendaries, unless it's specifically designated a legendary competition in which case... people pretty much only use them.

I still think you'd be better off giving it earthquake instead. Why have a whole move entirely for a situation that specific, when you could have an extremely powerful attack with 100% accuracy that you can use consistently throughout the match?

Not exactly. Anything tankey with a high special resistance would mop the floor with Alakazam, for example. It's easy to sweep the computer with Alakazam but it's not so easy against a human opponent with a balanced team.

That's what's really so great about Pokemon imo. There is nothing that can win "almost any battle." Everything has a wide variety of possible counters, so what really wins the game is having a supremely balanced team to respond to as many situations as possible.

Well a good trained Sableye will really make battles hard for you opponents then. He has NO weaknesses at all. He's also the only pokemon that has no weaknesses, and you can get two STAB attacks with him. Pokmon(s) with gamebreaking power. Uber or 00ber Pokmon are not necessarily Legendaries; Wobbuffet and Blissey are widely considered to be Uber as well.

Edit: Yes, but Fly is a very poor choice as it takes two turn for it to work; if you must use a Flying attack, use Aerial Ace or HP Flying. Both are stronger, and they both gain STAB as well.

Tyranitar isn't an uber. Or at least I've never heard it regarded as one amongst any pokemon community. And Blissey isn't really either. Even Jirachi and Celebi are usually allowed in tournaments.

As for fly, I mostly agree with Zulu. There are a few instances where fly can be useful, but in general I don't think they are nearly common enough to warrant using up a whole move slot on it.

I have busted out my Pokemon game the other day, played it for a bit.

In our area cards have appeared in stoores again, I thought what the hell I will buy some, I spent 10 bucks, and got a Salamence EX from Dragon Frontiers and an Aggron EX froom Crystal Guardians. Sold them on ebay for 100 bucks each :D :D :D :D

Mate did the same and got 120 for Latios EX and the evolution of Swablu as an EX card too.

We both made an easy profit from printed cardboard :D

What FG% for 3P? If it us bad a I recommend better mid-ranger game or just be a slasher if you can't handle that. Otherwise get out of the L.
