Was FF8 the best in the series? A simple yes or no...

I'd have to say no... The graphics is really good, even if you compare it to ffx. The story is only okay, though. It's not as appealing as some other ff's. The characters are average, though some characters are definetely more developed than others. I though Squall was pretty bad as a main character because he just didn't seem like main character material to me. He reminded me of Vincent from ff7 or Shadow from ff6. The really quiet and callous type. The battle system is the worst thing about ff8. The GF's take forever, and you get so tired of it. You have to use it though, because you characters only do around 50-100 damage early in the game and GF's can make the fights easier. Still, you get tired of watching the same thing over and over again. I think ff8 is still a good game, but there's no way that it's the best in the series.

No.

FF8 was pretty good... but FFX and FF9 beat it.

FF7 was awesome... but didn't compare to the storyline of FF8... it was amazing, although you did need to wait a full disc for the story to really blossom, but it was worth it.

I found FF8 to be the most boring in the entire series all the game sported was a 200 dollar pair of nikes ( lol graphics ) but seriously the game lacks alot i didnt care for the music one bit except ( eyes on me , the techno mix was good btw LOL ) also the story line was a drag..squall was the lamest hero..and in exception for two chars they were all butt ugly as far as style Irvine and Quistis looked good...Squall looked like a misguided pimp zell was er zell selphie lmao nuff said laguna was just ya average dude. i dunno i can bash this game forever and rightfully i can aswell..i payed for it i have all the rights in the world...for those of you who loved it thats great :D

I was'nt as pleased with Final Fantasy VIII as I was with Final Fantasy VII, because the storyline just kept on dragging on and got too deep, with Final Fantasy VII the story line changed before it did get too deep.

I do like it though it keeps me interested, and I did like the fighting, the graphics deserve some credit as well.

ff8 was too complicated, as i did get bored, and stopped playing for long spells, thus forgetting where i was when i cam back to it...and the final battle gave me a literal headache :(

Well, there's more nos than yesses (i picked no cause it sucks a bit) so that pretty much sums up the fact that FF8 ain't so great. No-one should put these topics up anymore.

Well, it was my first RPG so it always will be a favorite of mine. It's storyline is the best I've seen in any game. The junctioning system was great and the characters were amazing. To sum it up, yeah FF8 is and always will be the best in the series. (For me)

I wish I could say yes, but it definitely was one of them. VII was another great one. IX isn't up there, but it's close. In FFVIII, the plot was great and all, but the "mission" (to stop Ultimecia from doing time compression) was a little off. The movies, etc. was great too. But you also have to think about the others.

I've only played 7 and 8 because I don't have a PC and those #@! at Squaresoft won't release 9 or 10 for Playstation. That said, I liked 7 much better than 8. Much cooler subquests, the music was a thousand times better and the plotline was better than all. As someone mentioned, FF8 yeah yeah graphics, but 7 was better.

Yes

because it simply was the best, it had the most comprehensive administration of the status system (Junction), the FMVs and graphics were amazing, the characters had unique characteristics (not in battle terms), the GFs were long and repetitive after a while but you cant say you weren't impressed when you first saw them can you?

Squall wasn't a basic jerk as many would call him, he understandably became isolated from others after experiencing most of his childhood without his loved one (Ellone), someone who he had looked up to as a child but when Ellone left he couldn't take the pain of being abandoned once again which is why he was self concious throughout the first half of the game.

theres my 2 cents.... :D

well

was a lot better than nine i will admit but my fave is still seven. my heart is still bleeding from that moment i saw sephiroth stood behind aeris's broken body, laughing. i wanted to jump into my tv and strangle him. i felt clouds pain. that was the most emotional moment i have had yet, in my entire life. ff8 was brilliant, but 7 was, imo, and still is, the best. thank you.

No.

Final Fantasy VII was the best Final Fantasy game.

Final Fantasy VII redefined the RPG gaming genre. It changed it from "oh, only geeks play THAT sort of game!" genre to "damn, this is damn sweet!" sort of genre. FF VIII was better graphically but was much more difficult for the casual gamer to understand. FF VIII was too easy. All it requires is patience to sit in a battle to draw all the good magic and junction it and Bob's your uncle's sister's twin.

Final Fantasy VII's storyline was deep, had numerous twists and turns in the plot. The mini games were better (gold saucer to the cards "game.") The characters were MUCH more interesting (Sephiroth was immensely more interesting than Seifer, who was the MOST interesting character in FF VIII, and Sephiroth paled in comparison to Cloud and Vincent and others.)

Final Fantasy VII's battle system was beautiful. Materia ruled, summons ruled, the finding of each character's Ultimate Weapon involved a little bit of thought (I could get the Ultimate Weapon for each character in FF VIII by disk 2 there abouts.)

VIII was deep in terms of the ONE storyline running through it. VII blows it away by a mile. (Bear in mind I haven't played X yet.)

But then again, it's OPINION more than anything else. People's opinions differ...

And that's really what it's all about isn't it? Sephiroth was such a great villian because he was just so, well, dislikeable. Just not feeling that same level of dislike with Ultimecia.

- Edited to add, Bahamut Zero, word on everything you just said.

Final Fantasy VIII the best FF game....I can't decide. For me, it's impossible to decide. I've had wonderful times with all of the games and it gives kind of the wrong impression saying one is better than the other. The games are much the same, but still so different....Maybe that's why they are my fav. games....

But that's just my opinion. So this debate is pointless for me :D

I don't think so, I find FF9 better, then comes FF8, and FF7. The storyline of FF8 is a lot more in depth than in 7, I guess people just like FF7 more for some reason.

I voted for 'yes', though my mind the battle system is way too complicated. But, it woke up many feelings inside me, and it has a special place in my heart, cause it was first FF I had played. :)
It surprised me in a good way. Story of Squall and Rinoa was beautiful, I was all the time dying to kick some Seifer's ass *I don't no why do I love that guy so much?* And it was full of strong emotions through the game.
And the Ultimecia-Rinoa theory made me like it even more, though I still don't know do I believe in it.

Anyway, I just love it!!!!!
