Have you seen a great anime but everyone you ask seems to not know what you're talking about? I know I definitely have. What titles have you seen that you wish other people would share the same interest in the show as you? Find people here who have seen the anime! Try to stay away from saying popular titles like FMA and Inuyasha and stuff like that.
Here's my list:

Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha (the first season and A's)
Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan (Such a funny series, yet so very very wrong XD XD)
Voogie's Angels (3 episode OVA)
Cosplay Complex (also really funny yet can be wrong at times XD)

Share your list!

My list:
Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni
Kimi ga Nozomu Eien (I want to kill Funimation for butchering this series)
Green Green (a school full of estrogen-deprived males)
and Lingerie Soldier Papillon Rose (even though only one episode was ever released, it's still extremely funny)

Trinity Blood
Well I know Trinity Blood is finally getting a bit popular since they're showing it on Adult Swim/cartoon Network on Saturday evenings ^_^

I thought of another anime that needed a bit more attention while at work today...
Le Portrait de Petit Cossette (really spooky story, the art is amazing and the OST is fantastic)

haha. yes. another gokusen fan. ^^

oh and i saw like the first episode of Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha and i couldn't stand watching anymore. why? well because i kept rewinding to the transformation sequences and the little bits and pieces of fanservice they put on the absolutely adorable cute little girls. >.<

damn those japanese for teasing me so. now i have to go "shake off" this built in pressure on my great loli galleries. arg!!

/me loves transformation sequences ;_; so so much.

i also saw the intro to Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan and it also looks like a good show. lol at the part where the girl is teasing the poor guy. >.<

aside from that. omg you guys should totally see

PRINCESS TUTU

Of what I was getting from it, ya, but a verrrrrrrrrrrrrrry strange twist and not keeping to that story at all. She haunts a glass that Eiri has in this antique shop, and he shares the same soul(reincarnation) as her lover/artist. it's really creepy.
Here's two links:
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=2908
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Le_Portrait_de_Petit_Cossette <--that link would probably be a lot better. The dub was really good (which I usually don't say), I was glad I bought it after watching the fansub when it first came out. ^_^

Even though it's always been pretty popular, it annoys me a little that Kare Kano is know to many as 'the other anime that Hideaki Anno directed' (even though he was probably only around for about half of it).

Although it can't really be helped I guess.

I haven't heard Ergo Proxy mentioned of late. This anime can be confusing at times admittedly since there is a lot of info to take in. It is quite an intelligent anime and may not appeal to the younger generation. But, in my opinion, it's one of the greatest anime's created. It's a favourite of mine and I like all the characters, especially the little auto-rave (robot) called Pino.

I'm sure FLCL is known to some degree, but I always hear people talk about how funny and random it is, when there is actually stuff that is overlooked because of the randomness. FLCL actually has a good storyline, but the "OMG ITS SO RANDOM" comments somewhat ruins it, amirite?

Last I checked, they have more attention than they deserve.

As for me, I really can't think of a series I've seen that hasn't gotten the attention it deserves. The only thing I can think of is any anime adapted from a Ken Akamatsu manga. Not that they aren't popular, I'm referring more to the fact that the quality of the anime has historically been by far inferior to the quality of the manga.

I read the entirety of X/1999, much like I've read a whole bunch of CLAMP's stuff. I wasn't impressed. I read 18 volumes of build-up only to reach an end without a climax. Is the end in some other series? Did I miss it or something? I'm so glad I read it instead of watching the anime because I would have been PISSED for spending so much time watching an unfinished emo piece of crap. There. I said it.
I love Full Metal Panic!, but the thing is that it was pretty damn big a few years ago. It came and went and is fondly remembered. Then it had an excellent sequel series and a hilarious spin-off series. While I'd love to see the adventures and romance of Kaname and Sagara continue, it's time to move on to something new.

Well sorry I've never read the manga of X/1999 but the short-series did give an ending. So I'm not really sure what you are talking about. It did unravel near the end where everyone were both killing each other, till the final 2 guys.

You think there is going to be a 4th season to Full Metal Panic!? For the series to end off with the Tessa brother being a Whisper and a bad guy, seems very interesting to know.

Oh, man! That was a seriously great anime with a premium time allocation, but I hardly hear anything about it, either. It was clever, amusing, and deep.

On the other hand, every time someone mentions Maburaho, I die a little bit. I didn't hate it, but I want the time I spent watching it back. The problem was that it was just good enough to keep me hooked, but always left me feeling stupid for bothering to watch it.

Mahoraba, which I get the name confused with sometimes, is perfectly fine.

I think that these are some series that are really good and don't get enough attention simply because the characters aren't throwing fireballs at each other:

~Eyeshield 21 (It's starting to get some attention)
~Whistle! (I started this one years ago and finally had to buy it from Hong Kong because I couldn't get it anywhere else. Animenuke has it now though)
~Koi Suru Tenshi Angelique (Second season is coming out)
~Haruka Naru Toki no Naka de (and not the stupid OVA 3; It has nothing to do with the original series)
~Saiunkoku Monogatari (this is sorta women's lib romance)
~Jyu Oh Sei (sci-fi fans will love this)

can't think of anymore right now.

In the manga a few characters get offed and everything builds up with some really pretentiously deep plot (that is to say its convoluted for the sake of convolution, but then all CLAMP work is like this). Then the two main guys realize its time to fight and head off towards their final battle and then the damn thing ends right there. That's it. No more.
It's utter crap, and I'm not going to waste my time on the anime. It COULD be different, but after having read the arduous entirety of the manga, I think it's fair to say I gave the series a chance.

I'm not going to blame you for not liking it but from what you said there, it does end differently. Well for the short-series of X/1999 but not for the movie, the movie is so garbage; plot was so rushed.

Off the top of my head:

8 Man After and Casshan: Robot Hunter OAVs.

8 Man After is one of my all time favorite animes. Lots of action, well executed story/plot, and interesting characters. 8 Man's probably the only hero, that I know of, that needs to take drugs in order to power up/stay alive.

Casshan: Robot Hunter was interesting and fun to watch, although, the story was a bit generic and short.

I haven't seen either animes' original TV series but I'm hoping that either franchise (especially 8 Man) can be revamped like Cyborg 009 or Cutey Honey.

-Pani Poni Dash! - Just started watching it made my ears ring it was so funny (Or was it the voices?) Either way its like an injection of insanity to my nervous system.
-All of the Full Metal Panics, Fumofffu included deserve more recognition!
-Neon Genesis Evangelion might need to be... well... dumbed down or... err... simplified to truly appeal to the bulk of the ... World.

I haven't really seen as many of the more obscure stuff that many here have!

Nabari no Ou is a ninja-anime and much better than Naruto. (For it has fewer episodes *thank god!*) Its atmosphere is just great and the protagonist, Miharu, is far more interesting that Naruto is..
Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei is a parody. You should know many of the latest animes to understand the hints, but if you do, they're great! :3

gekko kamen (AKA in latin america as CENTELLA)

big fan of him, a childhood hero to me.

TESTUJIN 28 (AKA ironman 28, the 80's version, though the 60's version created the mecha concept manga/anime)

another childhood hero, and a big fan... i mean, LOOK AT HIM! HES A BAD ASS ROBOT, and that policeman is mario, PROVE ME WRONG, i dare you.

gegege no kitaro (the 80-90's version, though i havent seen the 2000's version)

i never could really see much of this series because after 5 episodes the channel where it was aired canceled it, along with their entire anime block.

and last but DEFINETELY not least:

DRAGON QUEST (AKA in latin america as las aventuras de fly)

this one was cancelled after 46 episodes, but if a bunch of frenchies made possible the creation of the hades saga in anime (saint seiya), then millions of fans can make the continuation of DQ a reality.
i dare anyone to say the fight against hyunkel didnt have EPIC labeled everywhere.
besides, the ending has one of the most powerful lyrics i have ever heard, along with hunter X hunter's ending. (in spanish, of course)

surprised at this but:
1)Mahoromatic - haven't seen ANYONE mention either of its 2 series.
2)Coyote Ragtime Show - simply a great rebirth of the ever fantastic Cowboy Bebop
3)Jungre De Ikou - how can something with transformation sequences like this not be better known? plus the comic showcasing is off the chain!

i have to agree with whoever it was mentioning Cosplay Complex, it doesn't get enough attention and is hilarious. Puni Puni Poemy isn't that well known for a reason, it's just not that good, granted it is funny in places but it isn't quite high standard Anime.

but we get a poorly concieved maho-shoujo, uninteresting and boring 5 sisters (the one with the huge boobs annoyed me the most, and i like huge boobs).
and WAY fast dialogue to understand what they are saying and laugh if it was meant to be funny.

There are lots of anime I have seen which few people have. Some of the most unknown of them are:

- Sakigake!! Otoko Juku: A classic shonen school/comedy/action by Toei Animation based on the manga with the same name by Shonen Jump. It's famous mainly in Japan. A fansub has been released but stalled after few episodes. Too shame.

- Sekushi Commando Gaiden: Sugoiyo! Masaru-san: Just like Sakigake!! Otoko Juku, it was based on a manga released by Shonen Jump. The anime adaption was made by the famous anime director Akitaro Daichi (Akazukin Chacha, Fruits Basket, Kodomo no Omocha, Now and Then, Here and There e.t.c.). One of the most original, bizzare and hilarious comedies I've even seen. If you think Excel Saga was the most bizzare thing you've ever seen, think it again. :P Fortunately, there is a great, complete fansub for Sekushi Commando Gaiden: Sugoiyo! Masaru-san.

Let's Nupu Nupu

These two titles that I am about to recommend may or may not have already been mentioned by a previous poster (I'll read the entire thread when I have time), so I apologize for repeats.

Natsume Yuujin-cho and Kure-nai are two very exemplary anime that really instill in me a sense of gratitude for knowing what anime is -- otherwise, I would have never have found, or watched, these two gems. They are both animated by the study Brains Base, which also did Baccano!, and are slice-of-life anime; however, don't be intimidated by the genre, as both series proceed at a pace that feels just right - not too slow, and not too fast. The protagonists of both story are highly likeable as they demonstrate a strong and altruistic qualities that we rarely see in the many mediocre anime that flood the channels today.

The plot of Natsume Yuujin-cho can be compared to Musushi, as it is based heavily on Japanese folklore. The protagonist, Natsume, is ostracized by both his family and by society because of his ability to see yokai and ayakashi -- the supernatural creatures of Japan. He is seen as eccentric, perhaps even frightening, and this takes a toll on him both mentally and physically. As a teen, and orphaned at a young age, he's already used to moving from relative to relative. The tale starts with him settling at his most recent home, with some distantly-related albeit kind relatives.

Kure-nai features the protagonist, Kurenai Shinkurou, who shares many similar aspects to Natsume. They have both undergone what can be described, more-or-less, as dreadful childhoods. Now, as a teen of 16 (Natsume is also the same age, if I'm not mistaken), Kurenai supports himself by working as a dispute mediator, and the story starts with him being approached by his employers to undertake the task of protecting a young daughter of an incredibly powerful, plutocratic family.

There is not a single character that isn't like-able (more like there's too many, XD), the art and style of both are very beautiful, and the story of both animes are some of the most original and enjoyable ones I have experienced, anime or not. Truth-be-told, I can say without a doubt that these two anime, along with perhaps one or two more, tie for my all-time favourite anime. If you have the time, I highly, highly recommend that you give them it a try.

I think Outlaw Star did get overshadowed by Cowboy Bebop because they were both introduced, to many people, by Cartoon Network.

I enjoy both for different reasons myself.

Cowboy Bebop made a great, if lacking in the constant plot, series with (at the time) edgy animation and style.

Outlaw Star has a great story that manages to keep the entire crew interesting and is one of the FEW animes where the ending doesn't leave you hanging or questioning.

I saw both when they first aired on CN and I was a bit younger, and was infatuated with their overall edginess, breaking the mold of 'friendlier' shows on at the time.

well, soul eater is kinda popular...
not naruto popular (though i HATE naruto) but close.

a current anime that i think deserves more atention (in this part of the globe) is one piece. really, this show is about PIRATES! pirates are extremely cool.
there are many MANY animes based on ninjas, and when i finally watch something different, it gets overshadowed by the shittiest ninja-based anime ever? PLEASE.

^Yea, Gintama FTW

Right now I'd have to say Tiger & Bunny. I know it just started but the title and the fact that it's about superheroes can be an instant turn-off for people. However, it has a really unique and culturally relevent premise and shows an incredible amount of promise for this spring anime season.

-ARIA one of the best slice of life shows ever, a bunch of people I know in IRL and in the internet still dont know what it is

-Binbou Shimai Monogatari, literally no one knows about it. It's about a heartwarming story about how two poor girls have to get through life through the love for one another.. and helping other people and vice-versa.

-Hidamari Sketch, another slice of life show it's made by SHAFT surprised it's not more well known

-New Getter Robo, a pretty cool manly mecha show. I like it about as much as TTGL.

-Pani Poni Dash, a pretty underrated/overlooked "crazy comedy" anime. In some ways like Azumanga Daioh but SHAFT'd.

-Kaleido Star an interesting premise about a girl joining a CIRCUS. Is actually more serious than it sounds, there is quite a bit of character development.

Betterman by Sunrise's internal Studio 7, from 1999.

I absolutely loved an eerie atmosphere and mysterious plot combined with comical situations.
Great pace, story progression and an ultimate reveal of the main antagonistic entity.
Scientific and psychological terms of the show are based on real life aspects.
Excellent character development and believable personal issues. Art by Takahiro Kimura and is excellent as always.
Overall it is one of my favorite "unknown" shows. A unique combination of comedy, horror, sci-fi and action.

Hopefully someday Japanese will re-release it on Bluray, I'll be very glad to purchase the original from overseas.

Really? While I think the show is a little more intelligent then other mecha/sci-fi series, it's actually not all that complicated.
The basic knowledge of biology and psychology is enough to fully enjoy it. They don't just throw a bunch of smart words at the viewer, that would require him to do an extensive external research in order to get a better idea of whatta hell is going on - no, they go along with it and explain (or remind) what means what.

I don't consider myself being too nerdy or "intellectually advanced" and was able to follow the story without getting lost.

But just like any other good show it should have something new for a viewer to learn or make him want to learn, and Betterman did that for me just fine.

All in all it was a near perfect blend of smart, spooky, funny and action-oriented type of entertainment for me.
If you couldn't get into it the first time, but though it had a potential - by all means you should give it another try.

The Irresponsible Captain Tylor, a tale of Justy Ueki Tylor, a young man who joins the space force for an "easy life" (free food, free clothing, free room and board, sleeping all day in a cryo-capsule on the way to the front) and is assigned by his superiors to the be captain of the destroyer Soyokaze, in the hopes that it will lead him to a quick death. It doesn't. The Soyokaze is mostly a ship of misfits and ne'er do wells with a compliment of marines whose favorite activities include mutiny and fighting with the pilots and mechanics. As those around him try to decide if he's an idiot or a genius a war starts brewing between the United Planets Space Force and the Raalgon Galactic Empire, and Tylor and his crew are right in the middle of it.

Seriously, there is STILL no Blu-ray version subbed! Did you know the episode 13 is over 34 minutes long in Blu-ray, and no one hasn't subbed it... That's pure blasphemy I say... People really shunned the anime because it was too short. I think the fast-pacedness of the anime was awesome, it made me interested in the game - and that's is the whole INTENTION of director's, to make people play the actual game. I truly wish DR2 will be animated too someday, but maybe the cold-heartedness of people scared Lerche and Spike-Chunsoft... :(
