Seriously though, that's just their style. Notice how they like to design anime characters with extra long legs (i.e. Mikami the Ghostbuster, Sailor Moon, etc.) and not to mention those *huge* eyes. (They could probably see in dim light as well as we can see in daylight.) They also like to design airheads with huge breasts bigger than people's heads. (And I'm not even talking about hentai... yet.)

because you cant k'o something with a small weapon. you could but it takes too long

One well placed stab with a combat knife or something will kill in one hit very quickly. No eighteen-foot-long sword necessary.
