I just read some posts and confirmed it with some news stories....

FFXIII and Versus aren't going to be in the same game universe? The is completely ridiculous! What the hell is the point of releasing a "compilation" of FF games if they're not going to be related story wise?! Why even name it "FFXIII" Versus?!?!

I don't know what they're smoking over their at SE, but I'm sure it was the same guy who decided to release their MMORPG as FFXI, a title that should have been a regular new entry in single player FF games.

Meybe they are trying to find ways to slow down the numbering in the series :-P

Maybe the info just got screwed up in the translation, and they really are in the same universe. Notice how they say different "worlds"...they could just mean the cocoon world and the outer world of the normal FFXIII.

What do you guys think?

I read somwhere that they take place in different times(versus more in the future) but they both revolve around crystals

From what I've read in translations and stuff, they're completely unrelated in all respects except general mythology, I think. They're both based around a crystal based mythos for example, but the worlds the two take place in are independant from the other.

I could be wrong however, I read that months ago and haven't looked recently :p

It's basically the same situation as the 'Ivalice Alliance' - Final Fantasy XII, Final Fantasy Tactics and Final Fantasy Tactics Advance are all set in Ivalice, but Ivalice is a significantly different place in each. However, they share commonalities; the different races, such as the Viera, Bangaa and Seeq, for instance.

Fabula Nova Crystallis will probably have the same sort of similarities; common threads will let you know they are connected, but the game 'world' is different.

does it really matter your going to end up playing them both lol... i no i will but im gonna play the one with the guy with black hair only because hes a copy of cloud with his swords and stuff

Isn't that a good thing? Now you get 2 separate games instead of 2 of the same.

But then again, I don't really care, let alone calling it "completely ridiculous".

The games are part of a compilation named Fabula Nova Crystalis which revolves around crystals, thats the only connection.
The same in the Ivalice connection, Ivalice is the only thing in common.

On a side note, I wonder if FF V XIII will be released in the same season as FF XIII or will come out half a year later(probably).

It's likely that FF XIII could come out on November 19th 2008 in Usa and FF V XIII could come out on March 25th 2009 in Usa.

There's also FF Agito XIII and possibly FF Haeresis XIII

I heard that FFXIII takes place before FFvXIII, and that Lightning will be somehow related to the main character of FFvXIII.. How much truth it has in it I don`t know...

well im kind of glad its not a direct sequel we all know how that worked out last time. Anyway im pretty sure the only thing related will be the world i don't know anything about lighting being related to the main character

I also heard about that. They say that Versus XIII will be set in a present day world like ours, but more fantasy than fact. I also heard about the crystal plot device as well. I find it interesting to see how it plays out.

But I have red somewhere that FFvXIII world won`t be our world, it will only be related by it`s problems to our world... I mean there will be wars and stuff...

They are related, just not the same story. I personally think Versus is going to be the darker one, more Devil may Cry(ish). With this, I'm liking Versus better for the time being. I don't discriminate though, personally I love female main characters so that's not an issue with me. I just feel Versus is going to be the most action packed. Hopefully Final Fantasy can redeem itself from the hype created with 12.

They aren't related together as far as official words go. The only thing they share together so far is the mythology (crystals, summons, and the likes). The worlds won't be the same, the "era" won't be the same, the characters won't be the same, etc.

FFVXIII is set in a more "contemporary type" world SIMILAR to ours. Meaning it will be a world similar to ours as far as architecture and overall presentation goes, but it won't be our world so to speak.


BTW, Fabula Nova Crystallis means in Latin : either "the new tale of the Crystal(s)" or "the tale of the new Crystal(s)".

I cant wait for these games of course If its set in our world I think I can see where they are going with it. I'm thinking something close to the darker than black anime for some reason.

I try not to think too much of what the games will be like. In the end, if you try too hard to guess what the game will be like, you often end up with the result NOT being like what you were expecting, which can end-up with the game being a huge let down for you.

It happened to a lot of people here with FF XII.


I just swallow the news bits one by one and take a wait and see approach.

that has got to be it, if they don't start now, it will end up like that youtube video where they go to buy games from eb in the future and FF is up to like MCXMMCCXXMC... etc.
