I hate private servers to death on any MMORPG. They make people weak-sauce players who can't stand grinding.

That's why you find Low Rate servers. They Usually only have 3x/3x/5x or something like that. The High-Rate Servers are mostly Get to Highest level and Developing a awesome Stat and Skill Build.

But usually the grind is the same. You have a "low-rate" server with 3x exp and a 99 level cap versus a 100x exp server and a 500 level cap, the time you spend getting to the level cap is similar. You still spend less time reaching the cap on private servers than on the real thing. I played back in beta and I can guarantee that there aren't decent servers that can match how fucking hard grinding was in beta.

Hope its not too late to post in this thread.. I think RO is one of the few games thats benefited from private servers as the offical is just as corrupt with bots and what not. I really love this game and it was the first MMO I payed to play. Glad its still going strong to this day and keeping a close eye on RO2.. Man Yokko Kanno's music for the game is mighty fine. Plus as far as grinding goes. In a grind based game, the alturnative that private servers provide means alot more can sustain interest. I mean I personally think 100 or 1000 times the base exp is abit exssesive but, even playing on a 10x server ( yeah I've given private servers ago too ) you still had the challenge of grinding. Plus some servers have really nice communities that despite their size, is all you need for a great online experience.

RO seemed too much like a glorified chatroom to me. The game lacked any sort of point which is why I thought the monthly fee was ridiculous. I would never pay for it.

I used to like Ragnarok Online a much. There's a few good private servers out there, but more shitty ones.

By that I mean, the servers that have increadible powerfull elite stuff. It makes the difference between players HUGE and unfair.

It's a timeless game really, and out of all the current MMORPGs I like to think it's still a very good game.

It'll always have a special place in my heart.

I just fired this game up, the main server anyway just recently. A month type recent. I love the game and play on the Loki server. My name on there is Dinne, 60/45 acolyte. The introduction of the kafra shop is another cash dump into gravitys pockets but also serves to make the grind a lot less painful than it was back in the day. Can't wait for episode 13 of the game. Supposed to be a lot more new items to get, the introduction of faction based pvp and the 3-1 classes in the first half of 2008.

Heres a wiki, touching on the new expansion: http://ro.doddlercon.com/wiki/index.php?title=Episode_13_Another_World

I tried Ragnarok Online once from a friend's place. It was pretty cool. They have more jobs than WoW.

My idea of how RO should be is probably different from a lot of people.. The game, imo is too player friendly. It's too linear. They created an interesting "town" system with all of the different characters having to go to required towns to change jobs...

I like their job system, but feel there should be more customization and more skills.

My idea of an improved version of RO would be the same graphics, I actually like the sprites. Personally I think they should improve on the sprite model and allow more player freedom. For instance, a gang of thieves camping on a building in Morroc on newbies who are alone... or a group of rogue swordsmen who go about assassinating guildsmen.

The quests are too repetitive, and are somewhat not fun once you've come of level. I used to play RO on Chaos. I had a lvl 76 assassin, 83 assassin, and 75 wizard. All legit.. so this is my experience I put on the table that is also responsible for me thinking about RO as I do now.

And also, the "swordsmen" should be more like Kenshin.
