Twas on a bright morning in summer, I heard the sound of the past; unfathomed reminiscence. (?)

Okay, on a more serious note, which tracks captured your full attention during your first playthrough?

I still remember how Search for the Princess and Unfathomed Reminiscence blew me away. Okay, they are not exactly action-packed cuts, but it's more their subtlety that grabbed me; I still get chills when I think about those two track in particular. Very medieval.

I would say Melodies of Life, which is mixed in the world map track, loss of me (beatrix theme) and the music that plays for Freya.

The world map music, "Beyond the hills" and the music at Dali were the first that really caught my attention. I still remember getting to the world map for the first time and getting that sense of, "Wow, I actually DO know what I'm doing!" Dali always brings back memories of when I first played the game, too, becuase I think it was then that I realized that not only did I actually understand how to play the game, I was really, REALLY enjoying it.

I know exactly what you mean Kurohime.

Freya's Theme is another great memory. I can't describe my feelings when it comes to Freya, but I just got an eery feeling. Perhaps because of Burmecia's demise, or the fact that Freya left the city to its fall.

Hmm. Pieces that draw my interest. As has been mentioned, the world map theme, "Crossing Those Hills." Also, "Rose of May" or whatever we're calling it these days, anyway, Beatrix's Theme. Also Zidane's Theme, The Skirmish of the Silver Dragons, You're Not Alone!, Slew of Love Letters and Theme of the Tantalus.

When I last picked up IX, it had been sitting on my shelves for years. I played with renewed interest and when I reached the last fight with Kuja, the battle theme had me so entranced I let the battle roll for a long time before finishing it. I don't know how I could forget it, if I thought it was so great.

IX has a great score but that one takes the cake for me. It has the right message in it: "You have this fruity guy in front of you. Destroy him utterly."

Heh-heh... it actually IS "Rose of May." It's been oficially Romanized in many of Square's publications as "Roses of May" for a while now. ^^ Plus, if it was "Loss of Me," then Brahne's ship would be the "Lead Loss."

But since we also started talking about other pieces (aside from the "first") that caught our attention, I also think "Rose of May," "Eiko's Theme," and "Inadequate Affections/Unfathomed Reminiscence" and "Ukulele Chocobo" were a few others that always bring back memories of when I first played the game.

The three that don't necessarily bring back memories but still give me this really amazed feeling when I hear them and play the parts in the game are "You're Not Alone," "Skirmish of the Silver Dragons," and "Hunter's Chance."

And of course, there's "Melodies of Life," which has never lost its impact on me. My favorite song. Ever.

The tune that played in Pandemonium when Zidane went through the chambers with everyone trying to help him. I don't remember the name of the tune but it was the tune that stood out the most for me then and still does now.

It's called "You're Not Alone!" and for some reason I've never really liked that song. It just feels so out of place compared to the rest of the soundtrack. IMO.

'We Are Theives' was the coolest track for me.

For some reason, 'For those whom we must protect' (I dont know why, I always love this part), Kujas Melody (Desert Palace music), Tantalus theme (its catchy) and The city that never sleeps:Treno (because its a great piano tune).

Both battle themes are pretty good as well.
Melodies of Life ranks as one of my favourite ever videogame songs ever (along with Gilgamesh theme from FFV).

The City That Never Sleeps
As much as I love that number, I find that here are a couple of other piano-based tracks that are even better, such as: Kuja's Theme and A Face Forgotten, just to mention a few.

Final Fantasy always Has great battle music.

"Kingdom of Burmecia" always really got to me. It's very haunting and absolutely perfect for that part of the game.

I've always loved "You're Not Alone!", "Rose of May" and "Dissipating Sorrow" which plays when you return to the Black Mage Village after returning from Terra.

"The Heart of Melting Magic" is great as well. It sounds like its straight out of a Shakespeare play you could watch on stage.

I'm currently playing the Mountain Path part, and I'm loving what I'm hearing. What's the name of the song? I forgot. I love that entire part with Eiko and how Quina violently chases after her Moogle so s/he can cook it for dinner, but somehow ends up in the river at Madain Sari. xD

Another fabulous tune is the Black Mage Village theme. I've never really noticed it that much before, but it's a very frisky tune.

The songs that I remember the most from the first time through are:

Rufus' Welcoming Parade - Millenium Edition, I loved it in FFVII for some reason and picked it up in FFIX.

Melodies of Life, one of my favourite lyricised songs of all time.

The Place I'll Return To Someday (The title theme) is also one of my favourites. It reminds me a lot of a friend who sadly died at a similar time of me playing the game.

Other than that, You're not alone and Kuja's and Necron's theme's stood out a lot to me. Especially Kuja's

I think that's because they actually did take it directly from FFI and remix it.
